We want LI to be one of the friendliest places on the internet, where lawyers and law students help each other with their career related queries and occasionally discuss other stuff that might affect their lives too. In other words:
1. Be kind, respectful and helpful to each other.
2. Be bona fide, truthful, genuine and curious.
3. Assume the best intention of others.

Once you're done with that, really sit down and figure out what is it that you want to do. Do you want to go into government services or a firm or maybe litigation? Or are you doing that because your relatives are in field/ someone forced it down your throat, while constantly telling you "you'll make a crore a year at some point?"
If the field is truly what you want, and you want to ACTUALLY be a lawyer, start applying to chambers maybe. Start there. A lot of people start at litigation and make their way upwards (either there, or branch out).
If this is not the field, and you wanted to do something else, and maybe have a portfolio, start applying in that field. A lot of people who I know (including me) did that. Not only after the initial slogging my ass off am I making money but I actually like my life.
This is, in no way, a propaganda for you to leave the career. But honestly, if you're feeling that low, it's time for some introspection. Also, it feels bad now (trust me I know), that everyone around you is super successful and all that, but c'mon, the more you compare, the worse you're gonna feel. And it's a tough world out here, which has no time for you to wallow in your self-pity.
Also, it's better to ask "stupid" questions, than no questions at all.
IMHO, team switch to disputes can only happen if you know someone very closely at a senior level. Otherwise firms will be very reluctant to take you. Disputes scene in Delhi is very jugaad based- and I didnβt have one. My suggestion is, join a good chamber and improve your CV. The salary cut will feel horrible (I was earning 5x amount of money in Tier 1 monthly)- but you will get over it.
I do feel a bi awkward doing that, but would be it okay if I just go for a talk? Or just say hello I mean
I wonder.
or Is any team in CAM hiring for BO 25 or is hiring closed???
please help!!
Be clear: if your goal is t1 corporate job only and only that, and you are absolutely certain before even starting law school that you dont want to do anything else in terms of your career, i would say best place is NUJS then NLS then NLUJ then NALSAR. However, if you are even slightly interested in litigation + upsc + judiciary + academia etc, prefer NLUD over anything else.
Even in its worst day zero (last year's - in 2023) out of a pool of 50 students, 40 had jobs by the time they graduated (the batch size at that time was 80). This year's day zero was much better. 33 offers from around 40-50 odd students who applied for day zero jobs. (Pool is of 85 odd students but most others are upsc, judiciary aspirants who want a backup that's why they are just signing in for the pool to get day one jobs which are relatively more chill). Whoever wants jobs, gets job by the time they graduate even if they put the bare minimum efforts of doing 1 or 2 internships.
1. Law firm in Hyderabad (sal - 35k pm) - Profile is that of associate but mostly gen corp and litigation work as per my understanding.
2. Analyst - Due dilligence at a compliance comapany in Pune (sal - 7 lpa) - totally unrelated profile from law but the salary and less cost of living in Pune is luring me.
3. Legal Associate in an Asset Management Company (40-45k in Gurgraon) - It has mix of commercial contracts, due dilligence and and fund formation/structuring work. I can also dabble into finance and secretarial work here.
I have 1 y PQE in gen corp and advisory and my only concern is that I wish to move ahead from gen corp to commercial transcations and M&A , and for that matter i don' t accepting a lower salary too. From a career perspective, which one from 1 and 3 should be best? I am even contemplating option 2 coz the same pays decently and I can completely switch my profile as well.
Thanks
(i) what kind of work can I expect in the DR team at SAM?
(ii) How likely are they to dole out PPOs, and any specific expectations?
Thanks.
1) Other than fees, roughly how much money is expected to be spent for whole five years? I understand transport costs would vary, then if someone's phone/laptop gets broken or if someone has expensive tastes then everything would vary a lot. But in general, very roughly, how much would be expected to spend over five years?
2) For attending moots, publishing articles in journals and such how supportive are the administration? Is there any bias whereas only few people are favoured over the others? If someone is interested in moots and writing from the first are there too many hurdles (or too many rivals) to overcome?
3) Classroom-wise, how are the technical facilities?
4) In case of any issues in hostel...suppose water cooler not working or maybe room lights/fan not working, do they fix it in a timely manner or students are asked to on their own?
5) Last question, for someone who likes to eat a lot non-veg, how is the mess food and other paid canteens on campus?
I understand these questions sound too naive and perhaps idiotic too, but please bear with me and try to answer if possible. Thanks a lot!
thanks <33
The majority of the shortlisted students wanted to go for judiciary, llm, academics, chambers, and so didn't intern anywhere. One of the top three rankers actually stated in public that she wanted a taste of corporate life for 6 months so she applied for the tier 1 firms and got shortlisted.
Best of luck to these firms who didn't have 5 mins to look into the CVs even and all they looked into was the rank. Let the cycle continue. To the juniors, interning is no use. Focus on your ranks. In the end that is the only criteria for the majority of the firms.
what platform is good for such courses? THANK YOU
How many students are placed? 12 Students through PPO and how many through Day Z?

NLUD>NLIU>GNLU (in case you want to go for judiciary)
To the people who are engaging in this absolute scam, be better, be a little considerate and stop fooling your juniors. Imagine if someone charged and billed you for every single advice you have received up untill this point.
To kids who might be thinking about getting in this trap, don't. Go out, engage with alumni and seniors in the profession and seek genuine guidance if you need from someone with actual experience in the field. I'm pretty sure nobody is going to ask you for money for these things. There are people within the industry who are far more qualified than a random 4th year UG student hustling for some extra change on LinkedIn who'd be in a much better position to guide and advice you regarding any queries you might have.

afaik the ones in the middle are heavy civil oriented
1-4 How does being alumnus of IIM Ahmedabad help? Or of IIT Delhi. Do they hand our lifetime certificates of honesty?
5-6 What they do in 2015 is of no oneβs concern. Point is what you did after joining SEBI in April 2017. When you mention that Anil Ahuja was a childhood friend of Dhaval, you forget to mention that he was also on Adaniβs flagship company as a director since 2009. Was it not appropriate to recuse from an investigation of Adanis when such a close friend of the Buchs was associated with Adani since 2007. Why did you make investments into GDOF an opaque investment vehicle when public and transparent mutual funds or AIFs are available? Getting certificates of honesty from Anil Ahuja or from 360 One (regulated by SEBI) would hardly suffice.
https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/banking/finance/banking/from-citi-to-3i-to-hindenburgs-crosshairs-the-many-lives-of-banker-turned-investor-anil-ahuja/articleshow/112449420.cms?from=mdr
1. When did Mr. Ahuja make this confirmation? To who? Was he not a director on Adani Enterprises in 2017 when MPB became Whole Time Member of SEBI?
2. Since when does Blackstone do βsupply chain managementβ related work? Are there any other examples of Blackstone hiring βsupply chain managersβ and that too at such senior positions? Why did this need arise in 2019 when MPB was member of SEBIβs board. Was there a need for this expertise before 2019 - or did the need suddenly arise after SEBI appointment? Who are the other experts Blackstone has required in this area before 2019? What advice was obtained and what payments were made to Dhaval over the course of 2017 to 2024? The question is not whether Dhaval was associated with real estate side of Blackstone. It was whether he was paid large sums of money to get access to MPB. How many meetings has Blackstone had with senior officers of SEBI, or with MPB?
3.
4. What is this recusal list. Is it only maintained with SEBI? Why not publish it in public domain, like all public companies do? Is this list shared with the Govt of India? Did they approve it? Like SEBI has extensive norms for related party permissions, including shareholder approval, did MPB get any permissions for RPTs from say the Govt of India or from her SEBI Board? Or did she ask SEBI for permission, which she heads and then gave herself permission?
5. There are no insinuations that MPB only favoured Blackstone for Reits matters alone. The insinuation is that she favoured all matters related to Blackstone - directly or through her subordinates. All meetings of Blackstone with SEBI officers since 2017 should be disclosed.
6.
7. The consulting companies set up did not become dormant. In fact one of them provided income from 2017 to 2024. In 2023 the βconsulting firmβ provided income 4 times her salary at SEBI. This was not a passive income from mutual funds. It was in fact βconsultingβ income paid to her husband. The husband claims to have no other expertise in life except βsupply chain managementβ but the consulting firmβs articles donβt show that even as a legitimate permissible activity. Agoraβs permissible activities are βLegal, accounting, book-keeping and auditing activities; tax consultancy; market research and public opinion polling; business and management consultancyβ. What legal and accounting expertise does Dhaval have to earn such massive sums of money? Also the companyβs address is a dabba address where many other companies and LLPs are registered. What does Shah and Savla LLP also registered there do? What does Aarnaira Development Foundation also at same address with Dhaval as director do? Same articles to get consulting fees in another account?
8. -14 Paying tax on βconsultingβ or disclosure does not help convert them into legitimate income. Even in 2019 when MPB was a member of SEBI, the near sole shareholder and thus sole beneficiary of the βconsultingβ firm was MPB. There is no disclosure in public domain - disclosing to her own organisation smacks of complete compromise of integrity and self dealing in complete contrast to related party norms applicable to listed companies.
9. Sending a show cause to Hindenberg does not exempt MPB or Dhaval to ignore basic laws of FCPA and conflict. At the least, these are extraordinary lapses of judgment. These charges must be defended on merits, whether or not Hindenberg is motivated by other factors or not.
NLIU over NLUD is a nonsense decision when the former was churning out fake degrees not too long ago. NLUD is a legacy institution which continues to be an academic powerhouse with a solid track record of placements. GNLU is a viable alternative due to its steady improvements in the last few years.

Also do they as a matter of practice not assign interns to one partner?
Friend later ? How does asking for attendance consolation solve missing out on the lecture ?
People donβt have to accept your characterisation fo any dispute as a golden truth. People get to decide among themselves if free grades , cheating on term papers and attendance fudging are reasonable or legitimate asks.
Plus you wonβt regret ur decision
Yes academia wise itβs average but overall your peers will be good
AZB and SAM are lesser in BLr than Mumbai.
