Do you solemnly agree to all of the above?
1) Other than fees, roughly how much money is expected to be spent for whole five years? I understand transport costs would vary, then if someone's phone/laptop gets broken or if someone has expensive tastes then everything would vary a lot. But in general, very roughly, how much would be expected to spend over five years?
2) For attending moots, publishing articles in journals and such how supportive are the administration? Is there any bias whereas only few people are favoured over the others? If someone is interested in moots and writing from the first are there too many hurdles (or too many rivals) to overcome?
3) Classroom-wise, how are the technical facilities?
4) In case of any issues in hostel...suppose water cooler not working or maybe room lights/fan not working, do they fix it in a timely manner or students are asked to on their own?
5) Last question, for someone who likes to eat a lot non-veg, how is the mess food and other paid canteens on campus?
I understand these questions sound too naive and perhaps idiotic too, but please bear with me and try to answer if possible. Thanks a lot!
Travel is cheap in Kolkata compared to most of the metro cities. If you wish to use public transport, then you will hardly spend 1.5k per month going anywhere within the city. Cabs will be more expensive of course, but the city is relatively small, hence most amenities are available within a 5-km radius of the campus. Food is cheap and of a huge variety and range, speaking as someone from outside Kolkata. Mess food is okay, nothing fancy, but not bad. Student-run mess committee decides the menu. There's a canteen inside offering basic snacks, but you can easily order in from a range of places nearby using Swiggy, Zomato. Non-veg isn't a problem at all, most Bengalis prefer that. There are malls and restaurants within a couple of km of the campus.
For moots etc., attendance is available. Apply in advance. Admin isn't very enthusiastic, but won't oppose anything. I would recommend you to read as much as possible in your first year before you start writing though. You can use any university facility, the library resources and databases are great. If you need any book that's not there, you can recommend it to the library, but it takes time to be procured. Other batchmates will be doing most of these things, so competition is definitely there. Don't lose focus on academic in the first two years especially so as to maintain a good grade.
Classrooms are okayish, nothing fancy. You can use your laptop in most classes, there are projectors available and a smart podium that does not always work. Other hostel facilities and infra are so-so, sometimes stop working, students jointly figure things out and push for repair, also push for interim facility like washing machines, laundry services etc.
