Of course, this would have to be supported with mandatory stipend (at a liveable wage) for trainees, perhaps a requirement for chambers and firms to offer a minimum number each year to keep up with the number of law graduates. In the long term I think a 3+3 programme should be mandatory as well, but that's a discussion on the legal education side of it. I'm curious about the thoughts of practitioners.

No one cares. It's a nice thing to put on your business card. Basically a waste of your time unless you are looking to get a job in a UK law firm. And if you're looking to get a job in a UK firm, you should get the job offer first and then do the SQE and get them to pay for it.

MAYBE someone will care if you go the whole way and become a fully qualified UK solicitor (as in, not just passed SQE but currently on the Roll of Solicitors and with a valid practicing certificate for the year). But then there's a lot of admin and regulatory stuff you need to think about (for example you probably need to be insured etc and there are regulatory responsibilities etc)

As a fresh law graduate who wants to pursue commercial dispute resolution i.e., litigation & arbitration. Does joining a disputes team within a decent law firm is a good idea. If not what do you recommend then ?
Secondly, if we are considering this is a good idea as a fresher. Which is the better city to move, Delhi or Bombay ?.

I am a neurodivergent lawyer who studied in one of the NLUs. I was pretty average in exams but i found my strong forte in writing research papers and public speaking. Eventually i pursued a career in academia which kind of is a suitable profession for people like me i feel. Just a suggestion

NLSIU is protesting right now as we speak so i mean the landscape hasnt changed either. All law colleges go through protests, some have even brought down administrations in totality and showcase the resilient spirit of law students. NUJS, NLIU, HNLU, have witnessed complete administrative shifts such as VC resignations after these protests.

I think he would do well at any college of his choosing (maybe even by cracking CLAT and getting a T1 NLU). Most colleges have been pushing for better mental health support as well, such as NLIU Bhopal partnering with an online platform and a counsellor on campus, NLSIU Bengaluru also has similar mental health support. So law colleges are also moving in a manner where they want better inclusivity.

Neurodivergence, as with any other fields, will be a hurdle in law as its not at all accessible to people who do not fit a certain mould of lawyers. It starts with the entire NLU v. Non-NLUs fights, and then the Tier-1, 2, 3 firm debates, and finally, the ideal lawyer stereotype relating to their working styles, demeanours (for example: our coffee machines at CAM literally show pictures of white, well-groomed males with straight, short hair as the 'ideal' look for lawyers, or people who want to work on side-projects or their healths or relationships are often looked down upon and not considered good lawyers because what are you even doing outside office that is worth it?).

Sadly, law, and especially, if your son wants to do the stereotypical law (corporate houses or firms in a tier-1 city) is a highly, highly stereotyping profession that does not tolerate any divergence at all. There might be one-off examples here and there where the professors/tutors in education, and partners/teams in employment might be sensitive to the specific needs of a person, but these are so far and few and minuscule that it's not worth considering them. I see some of the comments here pointing out similar advice as negative, or stereotyping law, but that's just how law looks on the ground, and I'd rather your son have real overview of the profession than bullshit wrapped in golden foil of positivity and inclusion. Law is not there yet, and to promise someone that, especially when they are hoping to base a major portion of their life on it, is just wrong and misleading.

Studying law could be wonderful, and with the right peers/support groups, you son might have a wonderful time, but the professional law would not be this accommodating I am afraid. So my advice would be to consider alternative employments in law (if your son has genuine interest in law itself), that offer more agency to him, even though if it comes on the cost of reduced earnings, or stereotypical prestige lawyers are so boastful of [right now, freelance work comes to mind as a potential area of work, but I am sure it has its unique challenges, which freelancers would be better suited to comment on].

But regardless, good luck to you and your son specifically! I am sure there are ways to figure this out :)

I don't know where this "years of no protest" description is coming from! Have we all forgotten NLSIU protests of 2024? Argue about whether those were right or wrong, but it is a historical fact.

(I did not attend NLSIU, and have no desire to do so as I am happy with my qualifications, so no special interest in highlighting this.)

Did an internship last month and had received a great feedback. Had a word with mentor on the last - said he'll recommend for a callback. Its been 12 days since completion of internship, however there has been no update since then. What should i do in such cases. You should be taking initial advice only from three sources: (i) your consumers; (ii) your business peers or ideals; and (iii) your investors. Plenty of companies in UK who have raised fine money without flipping.

You completely missed out arranged marriage system in India. Lot of arranged marriages are forced marriages. Its very simple. You register your company in the country most likely to have your largest customer base and where you are most likely to achieve a liquidity event like an IPO. If a major part of your revenue comes from India, you should register your holding company in India. The more you delay flipping your structure, the higher your tax leakage will be.
