Even if a corporation is widely criticized for its corporate practices (such as Amazon, Shell, Nestlรฉ, or Adani), working there gives an attorney a massive competitive advantage.
Here is why corporate brand recognition operates as the ultimate currency in law:
The Power of Hierarchy & Prestige:
The market discounts title in favor of brand pedigree. For example, an Associate 3 (A3) at a tier-one firm like Trilegal carries same weight as a Principal Associate (PA) at a tier 2 Wadia Ghandy and a PA at a tier 2 firm carries the exact sameโif not moreโcredibility than a partner at an unknown boutique firm in Mumbai.
The In-House Paradox: Position matters less than the scale of the company you represent. It is objectively better for your career to be a junior lawyer at TCS or Reliance than it is to be a senior lawyer or Head of Legal at a random, obscure company.
Risk Mitigation for Hirers: If you come from an unknown startup or a no-name company, it is incredibly difficult for a hiring manager to verify the depth, quality, and legitimacy of your work. When competing against candidates from multinational corporations (MNCs), a "no-name" resume is much more likely to be discarded. Without a recognizable brand, future employers treat your experience as if it were zero.
The "Exit Option" Premium: This is exactly why young lawyers endure the grueling, often terrible work cultures of tier-one law firms like Amarchand Mangaldas. They don't stay for the work-life balance; they stay for the institutional stamp. Putting in a few years there makes you instantly hirable across the entire corporate law market.
Ultimately, leveraging a massive brand name isn't about endorsing the company's practices; itโs about buying insurance for your career. In law, the brand on your resume dictates your future mobility.
Brand value in case of law means something else. It doesn't have anything to do with the company per se and more about what that experience will provide in the long run.
Even if it's a company with terrible practices (Amazon, Shell, Nestlรฉ, Adani) as a lawyer working there you gain a major advantage in your experience. Why? Because you will be considered legit with legit experience. Law is a job where that recognition matters. Lets say you worked at a non MNC or no name company or an unknown startups. Your cv will go to trash when you apply somewhere else. It's because it's very difficult to verify what you are telling.
It's a risk by hiring you when candidates from MNCs are there. Why do people go to Amarchand Mangaldas, Trilegal etc. For brand name. These are terbile places to work in but ocne you workk there for a few places you are hireavle across the market for corporate law jobs. Similar is the situation by being an in house lawyer at likes of Infosys TCs etc

I understand that you want silence, but the kind you require, you will not find it anywhere. My advice? Chin up, face it, and learn how to drown out the noise.
Merit > Family
I know I would be criticised for my decision but I don't want to add much financial burden on my parents also RRU had everything I need except corporate culture
So I need help from seniors to tell me what to do/what not to do in next 5 years of law school as there are less law related competitions in RRU in order to make a successful career in law
Any advice would be appreciated
Ironically, the TMC did nothing for NUJS and did everything to destroy it. While one of the gang leaders of anti-CAA protests is presently working for a pro-Modi law firm.
So where did all this left wing/liberal posturing ultimately take us??? Was it really necessary to antagonise the BJP?
Isnโt he Reebaโs brother. She coudnโt keep him back. Any insights folks?

2. If someone else agrees to do more - your partner would prefer to replace you for such person - nothing personal but reason being point 1 above.
3. You may discuss with your partner and convince him/ her. You need to ready to accept a reduced package because that allows you to relax a bit but not burn the partners budget. Accept it and don't crib about it.
4. Only time I've seen exceptions - when you're absolutely exceptional in your work where your partner doesn't want to lose you because you're that damn good. This may be the case in your mind but talk to ppl around and pick up traits everywhere - this is not just legal but also client management, communication, etc.
Maybe its time to work on those 100 problems.
Don't blame yourself for not being assigned work, maybe the team doesn't have work themselves.
Veg food. Enjoy.
Thankyou.

Never worry about what others have done. Chart your own path. You have made it 35 years in your life. Congratulations. Remain confident. You will pull through.
While no one can ever understand what you are feeling maybe my experience may be helpful. I went through similar motions and quit law but came back after a gap of nearly 4 years.
What helped when I quit was therapy, lot of introspection, lot of time alone, and then coming to a realization that it is merely a job. I understood it when I left the profession and started working as a management trainee in a company.
So, if you want to quit law and do something else, do that. Similar feeling may or may not come again in the new profession. If it does, just remember it is a just a job. Nothing more. If you can figure out how to enjoy the job, do that. If you cannot, do not succumb to the negativity or escape from it. Tell yourself its a job and do what you can and not more.
If this does not help, ignore this and just know that even a stranger believes in you and that you will pull through.
Unless you are talking about being absolute misers with pay

Suhail is an anomaly, the only MP of a large firm who is not in the top 3 billers at the firm - and never has been in ELPs 24 years. Just goes to show simply stepping into the shoes does not make one worthy of the shoes.
Please let me know the good teams/ firms with good banking practice in Delhi. Also wanted to understand the difference between work culture in Mumbai vs Delhi. I understand that there are a few old threads on this already but wanted to know the latest position.
Thank you.
I am a tax lawyer with 5 years pqe considering a switch in tech laws.
Is it too late for me or is there a way I can still make a switch (on a smaller paycheck in exchange for work ex)?

So this is a royal snub for WBNUJS.
Ask current and ex-Cammies on how he is.
Not always needed - but always helps to have the record. Some firms now a days also allow you to download 'salary slips' from their internal HR portal (not accurate) - which you might need for tax.
They will also make you sign a bunch of documents (confidentiality letters etc.) - better to take a photo of those as well before signing - for good measure, just in case.

This is not an insider.
This is Google Maps with feelings. ๐ญ
Mr. Pradyun wasn't just driving relationships, he combined business development with execution, coordination, and getting things done on the ground. Strong relationships can create opportunities, but converting them into outcomes requires equally strong execution. That combination is difficult to replace, and that's why the legacy has inevitably felt the impact of his absence.
The comments here are incredible ๐ Merchant bankers with him. Investors with him. Market relationships with him. โPure stringsโ also with him.
What was left for the rest of the firm? The printer?
The Capital Markets King is apparently BlackRock, SEBI and a Tier 1 law firm rolled into one counsel.
Legacy should stop hiring associates. Clearly all they need is the International Counsel, one laptop and good WiFi
Why is this man practising law? Give him a Bloomberg terminal and the Finance Ministry.
โThe pure strings were with him throughoutโ has killed me. My brother in Christ, this is an SME IPO practice, not the Bilderberg Group.
Apparently everyone else was thrown out and Legacy has now assembled the Avengers because they hired a few associates and promoted people with two years' experience.
Meanwhile Mr. International Capital Markets Counsel sits at the centre of the Indian securities market personally allocating merchant bankers and investors.
Peak Legally India fiction. Please continue. ๐
And the suggestion that one individual alone โcontrolsโ the capital markets relationships, merchant bankers and deal flow is even better. At this rate, perhaps SEBI, the exchanges, investors and every law firm in the country should also start routing matters through the self-proclaimed international capital markets counsel.
Two-year lawyers being made PAs is an โupgradeโ, but everyone else leaving was โthrown outโ. Convenient narrative.
This reads less like market intelligence and more like firm-sponsored humbug. โฎโฎโฎ
He dreamt of courts, of robes, of fame,
"A litigator! his proud claim.
With confidence both bold and ample,
He'd always say, "Let's keep it simple!"
Yet every file grew twice its size,
With notes, annexures, and surprise.
The "simple" path we'd hoped to see,
Became a legal family tree!
When hearing day would finally come,
We'd think, "Today's the beating drum!"
But somehow fate would intervene...
