4) I don't think that you get an option to pick and choose unless you have some extraordinary knowledge in a certain domain. As a fresher, any employer would expect you to do all kinds of work. Send him an email; maybe he'll allow you to do the kind of work you're really passionate about. And all the best!!!

Here's what we can do to help:

3. Tag human rights lawyers like Indira Jaising, Karuna Nundy etc. Their help may be needed, in case courts are approached to put a stop to this.

See I am currently enrolled in this LLM IBL program. The course is curated very well and give us good understanding however there are no good faculty for this course which are hired by NALSAR Hyderabad nor IICA. Internship is something which you need to manage on your own or college committee provides you. There is no guarantee of placement

Registrar and VC told on 1st day we are here to give you knowledge. Placement is not something which is guaranteed in any course. Looking at the 1st batch the situation is clear easily what is shown abd what is charged id not delivered

If you ask me, getting 3 months notice (with I assume full salary) and for no work is in itself a severance pay. In other words your friend is being paid for nothing :). Let me indulge you(r friend) with a nice long ramble here! :)

Tell your friend this:

1. just use the 'downtime' to look for a good job, catch up on health and other things that need to be resolved. I've shifted jobs multiple times and the notice period (in spite of all the drama that can happen) is a valuable time to plan holidays, sort out bank account issues, liquidating underperforming investments and other things that we typically do not have the time to do on a full work schedule. Take this 3 month runway as an opportunity to have a break and sort out anything that needs your attention and patiently look for a new job.

2. AVOID ANY UNNECESSARY INTERACTIONS with the management of your firm. They clearly seem to be under pressure and the last thing you need is for them (especially the partner in question) to 'lash out' unnecessarily and terminate your friend immediately.

3. MOST IMPORTANT: take a note of all the criticism they have given you and (just to be on the safe side) ensure it does not repeat itself in your next job. When the chips are down, take it as a thumb rule ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD that law firms will start removing Associates (especially the younger ones) in the blink of an eye. Be smarter and more alert in your next job and watch work flows closely.

4. Do your diligence of the next firm you join and how established is the partner. Partners who just got elevated are always a shaky bet since the existence and viability of their book / workload is always a question. In the bigger firms, the junior partners depend heavily on one or more senior partners passing on work, for the junior partner to stay afloat. Which means that a junior partner who has been with a firm (as an Associate, AP, Counsel or otherwise) for longer than 6-7 years is usually a better bet than someone who has recently joined a firm (i.e. less than 2.5 years). The Senior Partners tend to promote the 'known' faces more and that's a fairly universal rule. When you shift as partner from one firm to another, in my experience, it takes at least 2.5 years for your full book to 'shift' because most of your clients will not immediately start sending work. Same goes for the Senior partners pushing work to you. They will size you up with small stuff before pushing the bigger stuff. So joining a young partner who has just been elevated or has been with a firm for less than 2.5 years is ALWAYS a risk. Law practice is not about the flashes in the pan. It is about chugging along for many years (if not decades). Now why do I say 2.5 years, it is because a partner and his/her team need to survive 2 complete years to see how good or bad they are doing. 1 year is too little data to compare and 2 years is the bare minimum. As an Associate, what this means is that you need to pry as much information as you can (during the interview) about the firm, the partner and the team. Apart from these LI chatboards, try and speak to Associates working in the teams, well before an interview (through common connects).

Hi, hope you all and your loved ones are safe during this time. I just wanted to know what measures are being taken by different law schools in response to the crisis; I understand things would be very different for law schools closer to the border and for those having exams at the moment compared to later. For instance, I have heard that JGLS has moved its exams online.

The purpose of this is to collect data to perhaps convince our administration too for some relief measures. As of now, we (an NLU in the North) have been told we wouldn't be getting any reliefs until further government orders.

Did you fail first year of law school? Otherwise, why would you go around asking such stupid questions? Or are you the type who goes around trolling when they should be studying/working? You do know that this sort of thing wastes your own (and everyone else's) time, right? (On that one, I am certainly not going to spend even a second explaining why, I hope you have enough self reflection to realise why this is a complete and utter waste of time.)

I recently joined trilegal as an intern and recieved the onboarding mail which stated there will be no stipend for the internship, even though i did not use any internal reference. I cold emailed the partner followed by a physical interview by the same partner. Shouldn't I be eligible for the stipend? though the stipend is not of much importance I wonder if this will affect my chances at getting a call back or lesser my priority?

The article in question is an example of an ostrich hiding its head in the sand. Employing an exceedingly pedantic obsession with how “war” is referred to in the Constitution, it manages to reach the absurd conclusion (with a straight face, no less): that India has “fought” wars without “declaring” them. Who will remind the author that historically, almost every society has fought wars by framing them (sincerely or otherwise) as acts of self-preservation? Would the author also pretend that just because the Constitution does not authorise partisanship that the state and its officers are incapable of being so?

The author, like all too many jurists, confuses the map (constitution as representation of) for territory (politics as discourse). The very assumption on which he proceeds is fallacious in that it claims that the constitution is the beginning and the conclusion of all discourse, that what is absent in the constitution is impossible in the discourse. This is law’s conceit and is patently false. A society/state can, has, and will do what it collectively considers its prerogative regardless of the Constitution thinks otherwise, whether it be a riot or a war. For the Constitution is only a text that is valid as long as its representation of reality is acceptable to those living in it.

I believe Ireland might have a few law schools which offer an undergraduate three-year LLB, but most that I know of have a four year LLB course. Australia and New Zealand are also mostly four years straight out of school, and I do know that UNSW has a BALLB of five years duration, like what is there in India.

also i noticed that the income tax he paid for for FY 24-25 (which is while he was already a sitting SC judge) - was 6.7 cr! that basically means his income - while he was a judge - was close to 20 cr - which is insans!! he's making 20 cr annually just off his investments (which are apparently 120 cr as per the declaration- but i think is lesser than the real figures)

DRAMS followed by Rohatgi. The prior is marginally better at time management, and does 1-2 more matters than the latter on any given day. The difference is that DRAMS usually also appears (VC) in other HCs/Tribunals from the corridors of the SC. So, there is a fair chance (strictly speaking) that both him and Rohatgi do the same number of SC matters. But if you include Doc's VC appearances which he does within SC premises, he edges out Rohatgi.

It's obvious from the posts on social media and internal NLU WhatsApp groups. One set of students is echoing the view that we should destroy Pakistan, another group of students is calling for de-escalation. Seeing this across NLUs, as our friends from other colleges are sharing chats on their internal groups.

Both sides are entitled to their viewpoint, but unfortunately the posts are getting acrimonious. Both sides should cool down. Social media is such a toxic place that it might even be worth to go offline for a couple of days, or moderators of NLU WhatsApp groups can put a stop to new posts.

Please decide what you want. Either be critical or not. In other words, at the very least, specify what your problems are. No, not anonymously, but in your own name. This half-way position does nobody any favours. How do we know that you aren't some spiteful LLB kid from a T2 NLU whose own prospects are hopeless, and who hopes that a bit of trolling of NLSIU will work something in their favour?
