However, I have chronic back pain due to which I am unable to sit continuously for more than 1 hour. But I can walk all day long and manage long of hours of work by altering between sitting and standing with some walking breaks.
I was thinking litigation as an option due to better remuneration in long term and more flexibility - like taking files home to read after court hours. (These are just my assumptions)
I have an interest in law and there is an intuition that my reading and reasoning skills can help me do well here. But I don't have much idea about the kind of physical demands of the litigation job.
Kindly advice should I consider law, specifically litigation as a career? Feel free to advice any other careers in law which are more suitable for persons with chronic pain like me.
I don't want to weary you, but perhaps a bit of my story will be helpful for you (especially as regards social skill building). One factor that may make it less helpful for you is that the social mobility issues caused by my disability were partially offset by the fact that I come from a privileged background: I attended an independent school (and therefore was educated among people whose backgrounds were like my own) and I come from the sort of family where somebody without (at the very least) an undergraduate degree and an MBA is considered functionally illiterate. Nevertheless, I especially know about the insecurity that comes out of not having friends. I had people whom I considered as 'friends' until about fifth class in school, but after we (that is to say, me and my school contemporaries) turned 11 - always a dangerous age - things began to change. Boys became interested in going out with girls on an ongoing and serious basis and had success in this regard while I didn't; girls became interested in going out with boys, but not with me; people spoke of viewing porn websites while I read Churchill and William L. Shirer; many people engaged in sporting pursutes as extracurricular activities in their spare time while I attempted to learn the works of Bach, Chopin and Mozart by ear as part of my years-long (and ongoing) efforts to learn and play the piano (facilities for blind people like me to learn Braille music in India are hard to come by, and low quality where available); even in music, our tastes were different, for where they listened to heavy metal, I always preferred something like a Strauss Waltz or other classical orchestral music such as concertos (the Blue Danube and Roses from the South have been particular favourites of mine as waltzes, and Beethoven's Violin Concerto in D Major as well)... you get the idea. I was a bit of a weirdo; add that to the COVID-19 isolation period, so come time to transition into higher education, I had some stuff going for me when starting university, but not social skills. When I started at university, I noticed that my contemporaries were similarly placed (if not exactly in the same situation): some were ahead (or behind, as the case may be) in some areas, where others were not. People worked on things they were behind in (while also keeping up their pre-existing strengths and pushing themselves to do new things and gain new ones) as part of a multi-factor learning process. I, for example, worked on various atypical aspects in my behaviour and what felt to me like overwhelming social anxiety because of the many years of having no friends, and now have a circle of friends whom, even if I called at 3 in the morning for whatever reason (not that I would), would give me whatever help/advice needed or do whatever could be done in such an extraordinary situation.
I don't know about me, but the vast (if not the overwhelming) majority of my university contemporaries graduated with their law degrees, more thoughtful, reflective, empathetic, kind people; more willing to try new things and engage with new arguments and perspectives. This is at least in part due to the fact that while at university, I came into contact on a much larger scale with people from economically disadvantaged and/or in other ways marginalised backgrounds. If nothing else, a university law degree should give you those qualities (if you make the most of the experience by taking advantage of opportunities, initially by trying a bit of many things, and later being more discriminating in what you choose to take part in and what you choose to give a miss).

I'm OP of the rant post. I just wanted to say- don't make decisions based on what I said. My experience is just one experience out of sea of experiences. Does not mean you won't do well or wouldn't develop the so called 'people skills' while at university. All I will say is this:- Make an informed decision and be cent percent sure that this is what you want, also take into account that despite performing well and giving your best, you may not get the rewards of your labour, atleast not immediately. If your sole goal is to make good money immediately and decent progression, opt for other alternatives. If you are genuinely passionate about the law and don't have financial constraints go ahead. Best of luck! Don't let my experience colour your vision.
1) Graduate outcomes: What percentage of graduates from the last three batches have gotten jobs they are relatively pleased with within 6 months of graduating? This should be the first thing you consider. Honestly, you could live in AC rooms on a campus that has Olympic-size pools, equestrian sports, and a helipad-—what difference does it make to you? Is the university enriching itself or is it actually providing value to you?
2) Faculty quality and rigor—even if you don't have good graduate outcomes now, if you have decent faculty and a high standard for academic work, within the next five years your university can improve enough that you will be employable. And find your way in the law world eventually. Count the student-teacher ratio in faculty quality. How likely are you to be taught by faculty who can make a call and get you a job?
3) Peer quality-—Even if graduate outcomes are bad and faculty are bad and there's no rigor, will you be surrounded by enough driven people that will keep you on your toes and challenge you and will work with you so you leave school knowing the law and having some idea of how to navigate the real world?
This is literally all that matters. The city, size of the college, how wealthy the students are, sex ratio, moot court wins, hostel rooms, food—all of that doesn't count for anything really unless you have at least one of these other three. There are plenty of people in Delhi who go to colleges where they get none of these things—but they might get access to the big city, they might be wealthy, and they might even get good infrastructure—it doesn't matter at all—they don't get jobs, they don't advance in their careers, and eventually they can't hack it in the legal world. I've seen NLUs where they don't have these three criteria and they sell themselves on infrastructure or on one team recently winning one moot—infrastructure doesn't follow you once you leave the university, and one team winning a moot somewhere doesn't actually mean some good work is being done at the university that you can benefit from. It might simply be that the team is well-connected or fortunate. Besides, moots don't lead to jobs unless you win a big international one. Many private universities spend a lot on infrastructure up front because they know they will make the money back by charging exorbitant fees to parents who assume "big building/campus = serious education project." If you go to a university to visit and theyre selling you on infra- big red flag. Consider that youre paying for all of that and consider if the ROI is there.
It seems to me that people know so little about how higher education works, and parents and prospective students are so ill-prepared that they don't have the first idea what they're looking at and are clueless when they're being sold a bill of goods.
Big caveat: this answer assumes you want to be a lawyer and are middle class/unconnected. If you don't really care about being a lawyer, or your dad is already someone big who can assure you employment, go waste your money wherever you want; who even cares?
Dropping out could be the worst mistake you make because its easier to promise yourself of the future than to work on it. Finally if you're worried about ppl judging your rank/casteism then i'll be honest it will be there especially in your first semester after that what you do in college will define you. Wont delude you by saying nobody would care at all but yeah you have to let your grades/cv speak for you and your rank

Just study once the course starts. Study for class everyday. Doing well in law school is not hard.

You are not alone and sometimes things just doesn't work out like you want it to but that doesn't mean you are not enough. Keep working hard and giving your 110% everywhere you go and eventually it's all gonna make sense.
Bonus Tip - Target practice areas and partners that have high attrition (you will sacrifice your sanity but you can switch later anyway
When a candidate applies for an internship in a specific practice area, could you at least let them know whether they will be allotted to that area or not? What’s the point of asking for a list of preferences (sometimes even 3–4 practice areas) if none of them are going to be considered?
If a student is genuinely interested in working in selected areas only, please inform them in advance if it won’t be possible to accommodate those preferences, rather than assigning them to a completely unrelated or niche practice area. It’s disheartening to spend thousands of rupees to travel to a city to gain experience in some specific fields, only to be told at the last moment that they’ll be working in an entirely different area.
Yes, every opportunity is a learning opportunity, but if this is how allocations are made, then please don’t ask for practice area preferences in the first place. More importantly, when you come for campus recruitment, please refrain from commenting on a candidate’s “lack of focus” or “inconsistency” due to diverse practice areas reflected in CV. Often, that variety isn’t by choice, it’s because of how you allocate interns.

I’m heading into my fourth year of law school and wanted to ask for genuine advice on what job expectations I should realistically have—and what I can do now to improve my chances of getting placed.
I don’t have a top rank, and I haven’t excelled in moots either. But I do have six internships under my belt—mostly litigation with a few corporate—and I’ve been consistently active in student-run organizations and committees throughout college.
I’m really aiming to get an internship at a Tier-1 or Tier-2 firm and ultimately secure a job there. I know the odds might not be in my favour on paper, but I believe I can make it work and I’m ready to put in the effort.
If anyone has been in a similar position or has suggestions—on how to write better applications, how to build a stronger corporate profile, what to focus on during internships, or even how to approach people for referrals—I’d really appreciate your insight.

At GNLU, for instance, students with good batch ranks (Top 10–15) secured jobs despite having limited law firm internships, and almost no direct corporate/M&A experience. The reality is that most corporate practice roles don’t demand prior specialised experience or knowledge. The basic understanding of the Companies Act and related statutes that you gain during law school is generally sufficient to begin working in Gen Corp.
In fact, the work assigned to A0/A1-level associates is often quite rudimentary, primarily due diligence and proofreading. Occasionally, they might be involved in compliance checks or making standard observations, but even that doesn’t require in-depth knowledge or years of experience. Literally anyone (even a first year law student) can do an A0/A1's work. So, if you are from a tier 1 NLU, pray to god that you have a good batch rank.
As for the long-term internship, that does make sense. However, I do not wish to work as an associate at the places I have previously interned, primarily because they would not help me survive financially, considering the extremely low pay scale of the associates in most of them. I do hope to extend my T-1 internship and hopefully have that converted into an assessment internship/PPO.
I do hope that you are currently where you wished to be then (even if that is not the case and you have changed your path, I wish for the best for you, too).
