How do NLUs become Tier-1? What are some criteria, and what do the students have to do, alongside the administration? NLUJ and NLIU was established around the same time and became a Tier-1 despite not being in a relatively big city such as Hyderabad, Kolkata. While HNLU and NUALS, established just after a couple of years, is still considered a Tier-2 NLU.

GNLU was just in the right place at the right time to become a Tier-1 NLU.

NLUD was established much later in comparison, but ended up becoming a Tier-1 due to it’s locational advantage, while MNLU Mumbai doesn’t even it’s own campus yet, and is considered a favourite among aspirants due to the city factor.

Is all of this solely alumni and city factor, or is there more to it? (NLSIU can be excluded since it was the first “premier” law institution, established much earlier than it’s counterparts)

If yes, can current Tier-2/3 NLUs (i.e; NLUO, MNLU Nagpur, among others) become Tier-1 NLUs in the coming future if things go right for them?

I am really curious to know everyone’s opinion on this as it seemed like an interesting topic to me.

depends on you and the firm entirely, but can be any of the following in the order of likelihood:

a. firm disregards the 1 pqe at the boutique firm and you start at a0 (sometimes at all t1 firms, depends on the boutique)

b. firm gives you a percentage increment on your previous salary (s/cam, kco do this at times)

c. firm brings you on at the a1 band (rare but ideal)

Volume yes but not necessarily in terms of pay. Lots of NCLT matters are just for passing of orders wrt ROC compliance and most RPs will go for senior counsels. If you can carve your niche into NCLT/NCLAT you can easily earn 20-40k per matter as a relatively young litigator (In Tier 2 NCLT benches it would be lower). The actual money lies in NCLAT litigation fyi :))

A senior told me as he himself has been working in a botique firm in ncr that work life balance is 10 to 5 approx. And pay is not that bad. All I want is to have space for myself when I can not only enjoy my work but also do what my heart desires to read to watch movies and shows and anime and so many things. Is this true? He told me that this is the case in so many such firms. Do such places really exist?

ive noticed sam, cam, azb are very closed off. they dont really give a chance to just anyone, mostly people who apply there have both good cv's and referrals as well, so its okay makes sense. it is extremely difficult to crack, until and unless you have a golden cv and connections. even their hr's are very unhelpful, i get it since the sheer amount of daily applications is humanly impossible to go through. but is it possible to get good tier 1 firm internship (in delhi ncr) which is a little more open and flexible, willing to give freshers a chance. i have a good cv, few tier one internships, decent grades, but i feel like ive wasted a lot of time targeting the wrong firms.

can someone please help me with a good hitlist for internships where i can have a shot (tier one and upper tier 2 only) especially the ones with responsive hr's.

So we've actually had this for a while. If you wanna do well, you'll be able to do a lot regardless. It makes placements and SMQ (our internal moot elimination) a little difficult, but if you keep trying your hand at things and learn from the right people, you'll be fine really. I try to moderate whenever I can. Which, lately, isn't quite often. I have my own litigation practice — that, and other things in life, take up a chunk of my time. I usually open up LI for 2-4 minutes for my 'short breaks' at random moments throughout the day and try to clear the posts.

In fact, you’re more likely to have an F1 lawyer from Jindal than an NLU. More people from Jindal study abroad for JD and LLM than NLU students. Also, JSW and JSPL sponsor Indian drivers at tier 2 motorsport events like F3 and F4. Over time, they may expand to F1 and hunt for talent from Jindal.

If any of the authorities were competent enough, we'd get a better legal education system. Neither the BCI, UGC or Ministry of education cares.

The cap of all law schools should be at 100 per year. 60 is too less and 120 is a lot. Keep it at 100.

That's 500 for ba LLB, 500 for BBA llb, 500 for bsc llb, 300 from LLB; 1800 students. And 60 for MBA. 60 for other social sciences. And 30 for LLM. And 50 for phds (10 per year, 5years). So a total of 2000 students in total. From UG to Phd and includes all law and other subjects as well.

That's the thing, there were hordes of them from two floors. It boils down to whether everyone who attended said parties should collectively be punished, or if the party host, despite not being present at the time of the incident, should be held vicariously liable. Genuinely don't know which is worse. While there's no debate to be had on the atrocity and about due justice, the end doesn't justify the means.

I mean. If you listen to Ketanji Brown Jackson in oral arguments- shes clearly just parroting back dem ideology. She contradicts herself all the time, not even just on this case, on most cases. Its embarrassing that a judge at the US Supreme Court is this- undisciplined in thinking. Lets be clear- I'm not saying shes unqualified to be on that court because of her race or sex. But because of her temperament and disposition. She just is reaching her conclusions based on her politics and then deciding the case regardless of law and shutting her ears to opposing arguments. Its a little embarassing. What a shame. So long for days of Scalia and RBG where even if you disagreed with them you couldnt dispute they were doing the law.

Since NLU students are far superior to international law school students (according to the experts of LI) F1 feels scared to recruit from NLUs. The fear that NLU students are much too brilliant to work for them. They instead recruit from mediocre universities in the US, UK, Europe, Australia etc. Nick Leech is from Oxford and Adam Babiker is from Nottingham. Must have failed to crack CLAT, I guess?

I think what you’re observing is a symptom of where you’re at - I’ve noticed Bombay and Bangalore tube into a lot more English music than the Delhi crowd. Age plays a marked difference too - the A0-A2s in my team listen to a lot of music that is Instagram Reels/TikTok influenced, rap (Travis Scott, Playboi Carti, Kanye, Kendrick, SZA, etc). Having grown up in Bangalore in the late 90s, I personally love hard rock and grunge (Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, etc.). As for my boss, they’re into GnR, Queen and a lot of the 80s pop stuff.

But like I said, the further north you go, it’s more of the Punjabi/Coldplay stuff with not a lot of a diversity to what people listen to.

Been in a tier 2 setup then shifted to a tier 1, don't expect wlb anywhere - the difference i found is you're working till 1 am for tier 2s and in tier 1 you're working till 3-4am and getting double the money (in most cases) question is are those extra 3 hours worth it for the pay in gap?

I graduated from BA LLB, did never thought of Corporate field as an option. Never did any internships in any Law Firm. As i was more towards Litigation, did all my internships in Courts only.

After getting a clearer picture of Litigation and stories if struggles of like minimum 3-5 Years, want to go towards Corporate (IPR).

Is there any option/steps to land in that field?

RML definitely ranks at the bottom. Women are harassed inside and outside the campus; with no protection offered by the VC. Every 3 years there’s a new protest by the student body but the administration doesn’t take any action.

One can only pray for the women in that college.

NLS expansion is a ▮▮▮.

IITs, NITs can expand because there are lakhs of engineering jobs. Even these colleges are suffering because of too much expansion.

There are hardly 1000 new corporate law jobs in India created every year.

People don't go for Jindal LLB dreaming a job. They are filthy rich and job is an option.

Let's be honest, most people pursue CLAT dream to become a corporate lawyer.

NLS was elite when there were 80 kids. Everyone got into top LLMs abroad and corporate jobs.

Now with batch size of JGLS. There will be unemployment. Actual unemployment.

Everyone won't be able to get placements.

NLS fees is very heavy. Almost JGLS like. NLS attracts many poor and Middle class kids unlike JGLS.

Many of these kids are gonna be unemployed.

Earlier NLS was a close knit university. Now it's JGLS pro max with nlu legacy.

Rest of the world (including India): People in positions of power voluntarily resign when their relationships, connections or even associations with such horrid individuals are discovered (in recognition of the loss of public confidence through perception issues), are forced to suffer legal/regulatory consequences for their relationships with such people (see case of Jes Staley) or, at the very least, try to distance themselves from those who commit acts like these.

Only in the Indian state of West Bengal: An authority figure feels it acceptable to attempt to defend his associations with such persons. This is why, despite saying that I am a Bengali with pride, I am glad that I have lived outside WB for the vast majority of my life, and never plan to return.

I belong to middle income household and wish to earn to cater to my responsibilities. Which one should I choose for a decent switch to fulfill my goals.
