But at the same achieving women won’t settle for less they want successful husbands. Also, there are law firms that prefer single women so that they are available all the time. I personally know 3-4 senior partners are different law firms who prefer single women. It’s a sad state of affairs but this is what it is.

I want to go to law school since job security won't be an issue in legal profession (and also my father is a lawyer at a rural district court). Should I choose IIT KGP's LLB or write CLAT? I think that since I already have a technical education and understand law fairly well (better than most nlu kids who don't know much about computers and all before entering college). But, I don't know about the faculty and placements at IIT KGP. I think it's a bit risky. or Should I just write CLAT again and do law at NLU's? please help me decide. please be kind. Thank you.

I have worked as a Trainee associate at CAM. They were to confirm me as a regular associate post probation. While my probation period (of 6 months) ended and I received my confirmation from the HR of successful completion of probation, the HR took more than a year in categorising me as a regular associate. This made me lose my seniority by a year. When you discuss with them, put everything on an email and have the HR confirm it. Make sure you get on par with regular associates once your probation as a trainee associate ends.

Hi guys. Really need a bit of clarity. Im in my third year. Essentially my CV is pretty good extracurricular wise. I've done moot courts, MUNs, debates, research papers etc. The only problem is, in my first year my grades were horrible. My dad passed away and I had to go back and forth managing his property work. I got to rewrite all of the exams in first year, but the new grades show up on my CV with an asterisk. How will this affect my chances of placements when I graduate will law colleges and internships look at that small asterisk in my CV. The new grades are pretty good tbf my new CGPA is a 7.4 out of 8. Please advise I don't know who else to ask

For those outside Bengal who don’t know, there are two camps in the TMC and this will play out in the NUJS VC appointment as well. On the one hand, Sanjay Basu belongs to the bhaipo (Abhishek) camp. On the other hand, Kalyan Bandopadhyay and his former junior Kishore Datta belong to the pishi (Mamata) camp.

NKC has smartly invited people from both camps on the governing body, ensuring his longevity. After him, the “ideal” VC candidate will be someone who has the blessings of both camps. I recently graduated from Mumbai University, and I have realised how bad is the behaviour against people from non NLU colleges or colleges with big name. I don't even want a fancy corporate job I just want to work so that I do not become a disappointment for my parents and do not waste my life. Being a girl anyways my parents weren't in favour of me doing law but I did. If anyone has any leads please help me. I have worked in two litigation firms. I have extensive experience in court proceedings such as efillings. I have good knowledge of testamentary laws, civil laws and family laws. I am based in Mumbai and I cannot move. I am willing to work provided a basic salary is given.

The placement report gives a breakdown of all 50 placements. 30 for law firms, 13 for corporate in house, 2 for litigation chambers, and 5 for other organizations. Coming down to 50. The assessment internship and LLMs are merely additional data for the readers. Not to mention that since the publication of the report, several other students have received offers from firms, companies and litigation chambers. Check your own facts before asking others, buddy!

You can easily start reading on interesting matters of law. There are literally hundreds of books available online. Don't wait to be spoon fed at the university, then you'll be in for a nasty surprise as majority of your teachers have got no idea how the legal profession really works.

Bahajaja....NLU and their glorified little bubble.

NLU politics is like little kids with egos playing I'm better than you pity party. Real University politics dekhna hai toh go to DU, JNU or BHU. That's what real politics is. They have national parties investing money in their elections, here even state political branches don't invest money or time in NLU politics.

Also, like other things, most political ideologies in NLUs are just "trends". They have no loyalty. They term themselves liberal and LW and then beg for corporate placements and become extremely RWs where they lick their corporate overlords boots.

First off. Tier system is not an official system. It's a made up mumbo-jumbo to get aspirants excited. If you look at the consortium list, the chronology is always "year of establishment" wise. This makes sense since the newest NLU would be lacking in even basic facilities like their own campus.

Second, the tier system is absolutely not based on faculty. All NLUs have great professors, mid and really bad professors; including tier 1s. If we were basing tiers on star power than Jindal has the most legends, yet we know how it's not comparable to a tier 1.

Third, city does not matter, otherwise Mumbai would have immediately shot up in the rankings.

Fourth, NLUs were established to provide, surprise~surprise, better litigators and judges. They were supposed to be the beacon of the best legal education. The founder of this concept was more a fan of litigation and not corporate slavery. However this whole concept was overtaken by corporate stooges, and became a full on D measuring contest of placements.

Lastly, law is a "professional" degree. Just like you don't ask a doctor about "placements", that used to be the same with lawyers. However, this placement mentality of b.tech and MBA jobs seeped into law.

This is where the harsh reality steps in, people enter NLUs thinking they would earn more or the same as a btech grad, which is not the case and never will be. So they get disappointed. The only place this may happen is if you litigate, where earning crores is easy. However, NLU kids spend so much, that they don't want to spend the next 5 more years in court earning peanuts, so they hardly join litigation.

TL;dr - Corporate/Law firm placements define tiers.

Something I would like to add is that, perceptions of merit change. This change is quite perceptible when you look at the rankings every 5 or 6 years, as in that time changes occur. However as CLAT becomes ever more popular, I do think we'll see perceptions being soldified slowly. NUJS, HNLU, and MNLU Nagpur are a few unis who've had changes in their fortunes that are well known. In fact, there was a time, when HNLU was considered better than GNLU. That has long passed since, and we all know what the situation is now.

Suggestion made purely as a joke: Get Tarun Khaitan back to India and get him to be the NUJS VC. He supposedly cares so much about legal scholarship in India, this will be his chance to do something about that on a full-time basis + curing the problems of a T1 uni sliding towards T2!

Will BCI actually show spine and do a thorough inquiry starting with NLUs?

I'm graduating this year from a not-so-well-known private law college. Most of my internships so far have been at the district court level, and I haven't interned at any corporate law firms.

Lately, I've been thinking more seriously about trying to get into the corporate side, especially after seeing discussions around how much people at top firms make. I know most of those folks come from top NLUs and have solid internship experience to back them up.

I'm aware that I don’t really have the kind of profile these firms usually look for, i have no corporate internships, no standout college brand, and no relevant skills.

So my question is — is there any realistic way for someone like me to make a shift toward corporate law? And if I don’t have those internships, what can I do now to learn the relevant skills to coverup what I lack.
