I'm recently graduated from an NLU (Tier 3). However, I have secured an exemplary CGPA and stand at the Top of my Batch, and have also published number of research papers, won some moots & all.

I wish to pursue LLM at Camridge or Oxford for 2026 intake and am also targeting the IVYs.

I have prepared my LoRs (Academic) including taking one professional LoR (not sure if it is of any utility) from an Oxford Alumn.

I seek some suggestions for writing the SoP. While I have chosen atleast 2 subjects from the past year offered papers common across Oxcam and intend to structure my SoP accordingly, any guidance n SoP preapration will be appreciated. Also, I want to know how far technical knwoeldge of the desired subject for choosing pursue LLM mst be reflected in the SoP?? I have a broader knowledge about the particular subject of choice and would only gain expertize if I get into these institutions, so, does the admission committee looks into the actual in depth technical knowledge of the subject we intend to opt?

Spice Route Legal has a generally positive and professional work environment.

However, I’ve observed that the Accounts team receives more flexibility, such as two-day work-from-home and relaxed timing, which is not extended equally to other departments.

While flexibility is a good step, it should ideally be applied fairly across all teams to maintain balance and motivation among employees.

Also, I’ve personally noticed some employees from the Accounts team using their work-from-home hours casually—spending time in cinemas and cafes during working hours. This can create unequal perceptions of discipline and accountability.

I’m sharing this feedback not to criticize, but with the hope that management will consider clearer WFH guidelines and equal policy enforcement for all teams, which would truly support an inclusive and fair work culture.

1. Legal recruiters are of great help. Reach out to recruiters on LinkedIn. You don't have to pay them and they can push your candidature through. Your CV won't get buried under the avalanche of applications that the firms keep getting.

2. If you have done enough good quality work in your current firm, there's no reason to emphasize on your internships. Nobody is going to go through a 4 page CV. You work experience matters a lot more. You can omit ngo internships and those done in first few years of college.

3. Most of the questions asked will be based on your work experience, basics of the laws relevant to your work. Be thorough with the stuff you add to your CV.

4. It is usually scheduled based on the convenience of both parties, which is how it should be. Partner interview rounds might be based on their availability.

I recently got enrolled (provisionally until I clear AIBE) with State bar Council of MP. However, now that I am eligible to become part of bar association after obtaining the Enrolment no., I wish to acquire membership of Delhi High Court Bar Association or Bombay High Court Bar Association.

Having worked at Delhi & Mumbai, I do have conenctions who will endorse my membership request. However, whether any technical lacunae exists that may prevent my aspiration to acquire such membership?

The Advocates Act does not prohibit practice anywhere once enrolled with the Bar Coucil, I hope the same rule applies to acquiring memberships of Bar Associations different from the state of enrolment.

Also, a follow up would be, can one acquire membership of multiple Bar Associations?

I find math really hard, I couldn't even score well in class XIIth board exams this year due to this subject so I'm not sure if I'll be able to survive in an engineering college, that to tier-3.

Now, until a few days ago, I had no idea that an exam called CLAT exists. I actually stumbled upon it out of coincidence and decided to give last year's question paper to test myself and when I did, I found out that I've scored 90+ marks in it.

Including that, I also find law as a subject quite interesting even though I've no idea about it and I don't know if they will be a part of the curriculum or not, but I'm heavily interested in subjects like History and Philosophy too. And, I believe if I work hard, I will be able to get a tier-1 NLU along with getting a good job as a corporate lawyer by the completion of the degree.

But the problem is, that if do B.Tech, I will receive my degree and most probably a job too(a low paying-one) in 4 years. But, if I go with BA.LLB, it will take 1 year drop+ 5 year college= 6 years. My family's financial situation is also pretty bad and I desperately do need to earn as soon as I can to pay off debts.

So( and TL;DR), which one is a better option- Taking CSE in a tier-3 engineering college or

Taking a drop to prepare for CLAT and getting into a tier-1 NLU ?

Read up on Maharashtra Tenancy Act specifically focusing on Sections 32G, 32M, 43, 63, TOPA, DCPR Regulations, Hindu Succession Act, Maharashtra Land Revenue Code, Urban Ceiling Act, Stamp Act, Societies Act, Registration Act. Read up about conveyancing as well. Get a basic understanding of re-development of society, slum re-development, CIDCO Land, MIDC Land.

You should know the different types of revenue records, 7/12 extracts, Property Cards, mutations etc etc.

Since you're a fresher they won't ask you all these things in details but it's better if you know in case they decide to test you.

TLDR - You're stressing unnecessarily.

A. The job market isn't as bad as you make it sound.B. For a T1, freshers are (obviously) least expensive and hardly make too big an impact for them to withdraw offers.

C. The firms will get you and ensure you resign if it has to happen or fire you after probation. This is due to D.

D. It's a huge reputational issue for them to withdraw PPOs - law colleges looking at them differently + market impact for them to get freshers.

I am from NLUD'25 and many of us got placed after just 2-3 internships. Our placement figures are pathetic because many people with absolutely no interest/internship experience sat for placements and, as predicted, got nowhere, racking up the denominator. Also, we don't have anyone with "stints" at foreign law firms who did not get placed.

If you had actual vac schemes abroad, you would have either converted them or been snapped up by Indian firms by now. So, everyone knows your "stints" at foreign firms are probably just online stuff conducted by Forage, which is not taken seriously past the second year, or stuff like the A&O IFCC course or HSF's ILP. Maybe stop trying to market yourself so much to an audience which is not as idiotic as you assume, highlight 5-6 internships out of the 12 based on your contribution and learning, and you might get somewhere.

The thing is that i am very confused now if i should take nmims right now and do bballb degree for 5 years or do bba somewhere and then prep for clat pg alongside and give clat pg and then do llb for 3 years seperate. My friends and family are suggesting to just take nmims because doing it seperate will waste 1 year of my life and i am planning to do an llm abroad anyways so they are like just take nmims right now.

I have been looking into tech law internships and came across Dialogue, CIS, Esya Centre, Koan Advisory, and SFLC. Would love to know which of these actually involve interns in meaningful work and not just research summaries or clerical stuff. Also, does Internet Freedom Foundation take 2nd years? I am genuinely interested in working with them and would appreciate any tips on how to strengthen my application or make the most of the internship experience.

PwC Mumbai has good DT lit team. IDT lit team is largely in NCR and some in Chennai and Mumbai. EY also has good team. KPMG was never that big in litigation nor Deloitte.

Generally the tax lit teams work as delivery teams for actual engagement teams. They draft, brief counsels etc. And in few cases, appear.

The law school hasn't done anything yet, it's just trolls like you which keep highlighting it by tagging it along for the forensic department's work. As for the other international cities, I'm a bit surprised that London is in the top five, having lived there myself. Don't get me wrong: it's a wonderful city, but on "affordability", the marks can't be high. It was only because I am disabled that I was allowed to live in on-campus, government-subsidised, housing at my university throughout my studies there. If you're not doing that, you're certainly paying a lot more. I'd personally have put London at 6 or 7 (or maybe even a little lower) because of that (but not willing to lower it to below top 10).

Women are not far more emotionally mature than men on account of any actual study, this feels a narrative perpetrated by predatory older men who are shunned and ignored by women their own age.

According to his academia.edu profile, the title of his Ph.D. thesis is 'Juridical Engagement With Electoral Reservations'. Those who have read the full draft are saying it is one of the best pieces of doctrinal legal research produced by a serving Indian law teacher in decades. The word is that he has had the full draft ready since the first half of 2022 but had a tough supervisor who has made him go through several revisions since then. I hope he sends it to a good publisher and does not waste his efforts as he did earlier with the report on the NLUs (sometime in 2018) and the extensive ghost-writing that he has done for judges and senior academics over the years. It is time for all that effort to bear fruit and for him to catch up with his immediate peers such as Arghya Sengupta, Madhav Khosla, Neha Mishra and Prashant Reddy, all of whom have published extensively over the last decade.

C'mon we all know that they won't OPT for litigation but they'll HAVE TO do it coz they didn't intern and secure their chances of a job (not that it matters because these colleges aren't active enough to get companies to campus for hiring)- no one WANTS to to do litigation and work for peanuts except when you come from a family of lawyers

Genuine Question - I am a senior associate at a tier 1 law firm and have been applying to job postings from various top companies - especially Google - for over three years now and it never proceeds - not even for an interview.

Any one have any idea on what basis they reject and whether it only works on the referral process and if you don’t have an in it’s not even worth applying.

I genuinely do not understand comments or the general narrative that there is no “learning” in an in house job. What learning are they referring to really? As if law firms don’t have mundane and repetitive tasks. Not everyone in a law firm™️is doing something Earth shattering in the legal domain all day everyday. The pay is high due to the role being client facing, the pace of work, and the consequent pressure. But, work is work. It’s about an individual’s preference on what works best for them and what they choose to make peace with. Simple as that imo.

If I were a university leader from one of the IITs or IIMs, this sort of thing would snatch away a lot of my sleep. Many of the combinations you mentioned are distinctly unappealing:

- NUJS with IIM C or IIT KGP: Thanks, but no thanks. NUJS has enough nonsense of its own. A bonfire of academic standards has destroyed any semblance of its former glory. TMC has made enough of a mess with it.

- NLUO with IIT Bhubaneshwar: Heard NLUO VC is behaving in a very stupid way, pretending to implement "academic rigor" when there is actually nothing of the sort at that uni.

- RML (and NLU Prayagraj) with IIM Lucknow or IIT Kanpur: Both NLUs mentioned are very average universities. If I were IIT Kanpur, I wouldn’t want the baggage of these average-to-borderline-between-average-and-poor brand names hooked to me.

- TNNLU with IIT Madras: Same as above.

- MNLU (all three campuses) with IIT Bombay: Same point as the proposal re RML.

- NLU Sonipat with IIM Rohtak: Certainly not! Nobody has ever heard of “NLU Sonipat”, well I haven’t. Risk is too great.

- HPNLU with IIT Mandi: HPNLU isn’t even an attractive university for the state it is in, no. No. Ain’t happening.

Hey "buddy", if you've never been in the system please don't misguide.

I do not disagree with your comment, however promotions are not decided based on what we think is suitable or not for law. In the larger scheme of things, definitely scholars from across the world will respect your quality publications more. However, the promotions system and structure built is still a government job, and we know how that is. If it's not official, no matter how great the journal, it will not be counted.

Secondly, yes some journals are listed in Scopus. I never denied it. But the whole list isn't. And if some young acadmic is mistaken that by publishing in them will get work for them, then it unfortunately won't. So it's the onus on the acadmic to see to it that the list and Scopus match.

Thirdly, you are overestimating NLSs influence on the government. The government and its bodies hardly have any NLU alumni, let alone from NLS. The majority are from TLCs like DU, BHU etc. So even the legal community would not care as much, it's called TLC blackballing anything of significance NLUs do. Wait till the new list comes out, and you will find that majority of journals for promotion are going to be thrash, since the whole process is a nepotism favoured structure for the ruling govt.

Fourth, I am in no way demeaning a great initiative. I think for the younger academics it's a good initiative. However, I stress on the fact that it's not "official". It does not have the Central Govt, Ministry of Education or even UGCs approval. So the younglings should not take it as the end all and be all for publishing. It may help improve your credibility but since when has government promotions focused on credibility and quality.

Fifth, it's good for personal growth and development to publish in these journals. However at the end of the day, promotions are not dependable on quality, unfortunately. This govt is hellbent on discrediting anything with "quality". That all I stated.

Waah, Kya baat hai!!!! Look at the sheer scale of funding. State NLUs are not even aspiring to grow - they seem to be happy in their ditch and are content with that. The NLU-fixated junta on this platform is happy with its own rankings/tiers, engaging in endless and meaningless discussions around the same. There is not a single instance or example of transformational change that NLUs are bringing to the legal ecosystem. Every state is busy launching its own NLU and propagating mediocrity. The unfortunate part is that state NLUs are not even trying - neither students, alumni, faculty, nor the administration. Everyone is equally complicit in this failure.

Why does it matter that an inexperienced assistant professor and few students have come up with random metrics that gets to talk about the quality of journals that are the result of hard work of many over a long period of time? They have tried a good initiative, it doesn't have to be great or perfect. Doesn't need to validate anyone else's work either. Any academic worth their salt knows that these ranking processes for journals are mostly hogwash. Journals that are good are known for their quality among peers. For example, ILR didn't get famous because it's scopus indexed. It had made its rep way before that. Similarly, JILI, despite its age, is no longer that relevant. It being indexed in this metric won't really change that.

Jindal and was just wondering which firm should i aim to intern in for dec-jan that has the highest chance of offering a ppo or a job after i graduate. i've been thinking samvad, induslaw, mostly 2nd tiers because i dont think i can get a tier 1.

I was once virtually interning at a tier 2 law firm when I was in my 3rd year. I was assigned a A1 as my mentor and on the joining day he asked me call him at 12. I called him at 12:05 as my class got delayed by 3 – 4 mins. As soon as he picked up he said, “what time did I ask you to call?” with a voice when you have your teeth closed. I instantly apologized, but he insisted on me answering his question. I answered and he kept the topic going, after that, no introduction, nothing, he instantly gave me work, which I was supposed to deliver in the evening, and I did and I asked if that is okay or he wants me make any changes. He calls me next day and asks me to explain what have I done, I explained him and he just kept saying “accha, accha”. He wanted me to explain just to bully me. I accept it might not have the best work, it was literally a checklist, I may have missed out on some things. Trust me, it might not sound bad, but that accha accha made me tear up.

This happened for good 10 days, he used to call me, give me shit and give me more work, without any reference material, and I used to work from morning till 11 in the night along with classes and other college thing. One day he calls me and I was in class, he knew that I had classes that time, so went out of my class and picked up his call, he gave me work, explained me the proposition and as I just ran out of class I did not have a note book with me so I typed everything on my phone. Just to bully me, he asked me repeat me the proposition he just explained, and I did and I forgot to mention “one” word that he had said before, I only typed keywords. He screamed at me, got really mad, so I explained it to him and told him the word that I missed as well. He just said “I will find an intern who doesn’t have classes” and cut the call and did not accept my call after that.

I instantly drafted a mail to HR, apologizing and terminating my internship. I don’t mind working day and night, but the least you can be is being nice to interns. Later that month, he texted me on the day of diwali for some research, I without saying anything left what I was doing at my home and did his research. Sent him that, and told him I had resigned from internship days back.
