A law school, as you rightly pointed out, is required to teach law. But that is the only thing you analysed correctly in your defensive and frankly, misguided written diarrhoea. In a bid to justify why a BA degree makes sense today in a world where a BA degree (absent an LLB degree along with it) is not going to get you any job, let alone a good job, you conflated an LLB degree with a BA-LLB degree. Your entire tirade against people with actual bachelor's degrees (and NO - BA is not a degree, and you cannot convince me otherwise despite 90% of this forum comprising of people with these degrees), Like B.Com, BBA, B.Sc. is very ill-founded too. As you would understand, a bachelor's degree equips you with skills, and not just knowledge. A lawyer with a bachelor's degree in say, B.Sc. will inherently possess a better grasp of fundamental logic which is so crucial for any lawyer to be able crystallise legal points and make arguments or draft crisp agreements or memos. While with a BA degree you can indulge in mental masturbation and feel better about having read Marx or some other old fart, it is not going to help you make an argument in court nor draft an agreement. But the fact of the matter is, that law school and the profession of law is agnostic to your bachelor's degree (even though some bachelor's courses may actually give you an edge in real life lawyering - but any hardworking lawyer can and will reach the same level with a bit of brains and hustle regardless of his/ her bachelor's degree). Where regulators have felt the need for a specific bachelor's degree for a specific area of law, they have mandated so - viz patent law. But you seriously cannot make an argument that BA degree is better than B.Sc. or BBA or B.Com or any other 'actual' degree, unless of course, if yourself are a BA graduate and lack the proper analytical skills which typically only 'actual' degrees develop in students.

Also, the argument that what has worked for 10 years doesn't need to be changed is also a faulty argument from the perspective of pure logic - something wrong can keep working for years but still be inefficient - doesn't mean that we shouldn't make our systems more efficient. You may have overlooked this while you were romancing Marx in your reveries while typing out whatever the hell that flowery BS you wrote.

Your comment has a lot of value, but I don't think BA is that relevant.

1. In practice, whatever you have learnt in law school plays a small role. It's how much you put in, how far are you able to grind it. In a normal bail application before Sessions Court, how far are theories of Marx or legal writings of Upendra Back relevant.

2. A lot of legal work is compliance work, be it law firms or be it companies. You have to ensure compliance with law. A friend tells me that a Tier 1 law firm charges a lakh for their PSU and give legal opinion based on US judgments that do t even cover Indian laws properly. Another friend's relative who is a bigshot also wasn't happy with NLS grads of a Tier 1 firm, because they were asked to do compliance and they were doing overcomplicating things.

3. The other side is also wrong that you need a BTech for complex IP cases. You are arguing your case before a judge who isn't an engineer. The questions are about law, no matter how complex the subject matter is. These judgments involve a lot of economics, true, but even that economics is of a very advanced level. Most of the IP cases are simple trademark disputes, something for which not much of science is required.

4. Ultimately, I feel both line of comments are missing the woods for the tree. As Cardozo had said, most cases are trivial cases where a bad man wants to know how he can remain within the law. For very niche things, where there is a demand for barely 25 lawyers in the country, you can't train all 2000 students in NLUs. Similarly, the BA subjects are hardly relevant in actual practice, unless you are among those 50 people who argue exclusively before Supreme Court. Students are mature enough, they can start directly with law, and the degree can be shortened to 4 years.

I think your response is a bit premature and you need to take a step and calm down.

If this is jsa or for that matter any firm, in my experience at rcc, firms do not respond unless they need something from the college/student. A lot of them go awol until the very last minute. Take for example tri internships, once they confirm, unless an rcc member calls and follows up for whatever reason they do not get back to the student until the time of orientation. It's the same case for a lot of firms, sometimes they may not even pick up our calls and go completely awol, but in my experience they always pull up at the last second.

You still have a year left till you need to join, if you're from a t1, I'm assuming NLU, a lot of the rccs across the NLUs work similarly, they would either be looped into the ppo offer, or the ppo offer was routed through them, or if as the firm requested you to sit out the placements, rcc might've been involved in procuring the undertaking. If your rcc has failed to do any of the above, then frankly raise hell.

But first and foremost reach out to them and ask them to get in touch with the firm, firms often discourage students reaching out to them

Is it possible to switch from an in-house role at a tech start up to TMT teams at law firms or teams that deal with data privacy ? Some teams have absurd attrition. It can't possibly be because everyone who joins such teams is incompetent. So what incentive do partners have to be better managers?

Side note: Why on earth doesn't Trilegal have management training for SAs and Counsels? They are, in effect, managing Associates and Senior Associates. For a forward thinking firm like Trilegal that has done quite a bit in other areas, this one seems like a no-brainer.

I was a dayz hire so I don't have first hand experience of this, but all the PPOs who I've talked to have said that they usually had confirmation/rejection within a week, with the average being about 3 days. This is for the bombay office, I have no clue if the timelines at other officers are different.

I'm from a "top three" uni myself and every single person I know from SLS, Christ etc who has managed to get even an internship alongside me at T1 firms, let alone placements, has done several months of internships at different firms ranging from T1 to T2 to local & boutique ones, across different areas of law coz they can't afford to be picky. Moreover, a lot of them need to do 6 month long post class internships to get placed unlike us who only need 1-2 internships or even just DayZ and post DayZ interviews to convert at a T1 firm. So maybe stop running your mouth about this and cooking stuff up; it's more likely that you have nothing while these kids have loads of internships (and just haven't filled out their LinkedIn or wtv).

Buddy, vague assurances of a PPO are NOT a PPO. Maybe should've kept your RCC in the loop or been clear about the steps from the beginning, demanding a PPO in writing which you confirm via email, and you wouldn't have been in this situation. Maybe learn about the process before trying to get others to fuck up their own PPOs by sitting for placements against express instructions of their firms, m'kay? 😘

No sorry, this doesn't make any sense. If you've actually got written confirmation that you are GIVEN A PPO (not some vague assurance that you might be considered or you will be interviewed for one), you're usually asked to respond to the same in writing CONFIRMING that you're ACCEPTING the same. Once you do so, you'll be bound not to sit for any other placements and if you do so, your PPO will be revoked. This is how it works at every T1 firm and with every college. So please don't come in here and try to mislead people saying "oh, don't trust the PPO offer, sit for other placements" because that's the procedure followed and can have disastrous consequences. Maybe blame yourself for miscommunications/misunderstandings about something this important, i.e. they never actually offered you a PPO in writing and just told you not to intern elsewhere?

Anyway, what are you even reaching out to them for once you have confirmed the PPO (i.e. what are they ghosting you about)? If it is about the internship, again, have never heard of anyone from a T1 uni being asked to do a rolling internship for a year. If it is about a one month internship or about location etc, maybe they need more time and they'll tell you a few months later. Have never heard of this happening to anyone else.

I have a decent CV that shows I am interested in competition law with internships in the field and I am currently working with a boutique law firm (relatively unknown) in competition law as well. Having interned at D&d's mumbai corp team I would recommend to go for something else if you have the opportunity you learn absolutely nothing at d&d as an intern and their hiring practice wrt to interns is dubious

If the big day doesn't work for you, take NLSAT and try to get into NLS. Otherwise, go for litigation for now.

Kids, there's no easy way to say this - this profession in India was meant to consume a much much smaller number of lawyers that could meaningfully work and rise through the ranks to become future partners. I see it everyday - principal associates are regularly told to pack their bags. At that time you are what 31, 32? in any other profession you would be just starting out, finding your footing. Here? Complete eradication. I say this with zero malice, think about something else. Not because of AI, not because of pressure but because if you truly try to understand the depths of corporate law - the paying capacity of clients, the actual revenues of Indian law firms vs foreign law firms, the partner track as of TODAY - you would actually do much better literally in any other profession. Ask any principal associate or even retained partner and they will tell you the exact same thing.

If you have mail confirmation, try getting in touch with the HR and see what they’re saying.

Perhaps try to get some information by asking an indirect confirmation like: “When will I approximately get to know regarding further joining details?” or “Will I be directly joining (X) Partner’s team itself?” to gauge the current status of the PPO if you can.

Have interned in their Bengaluru office. If you got through reference, then you won't be getting any stipend exception being if you perform really well. Before the commencement of your internship, they ask for preferred practice area and will allot you accordingly. Also pro tip if you are looking for a ppo offer then please don't choose transaction team as your chances of getting ppo's are less there compared to other practice area. Hope this helps. Hi, I am an A0 at a Tier 1 law firm in Delhi. I have been working for a few months now and have participated in a few DDs as well. Since the past few weeks, I have been making so many mistakes, it’s eating me up from inside. I have been making small and big mistakes, both, even consecutive mistakes in the same matter at different points.

My seniors, including the partner I was working under, are nice people. I think that’s why, it feels worse disappointing them everytime. Moreover, I have been working hard, staying late in the office to get work done. However, that hasn’t helped me deliver a decent work product. As a result, I think, I haven’t been getting as much work either in the past week.

A few weeks ago, I thought I was getting a hang of everything and I was getting a lot of work, but now I don’t know how to proceed. A major part of me now thinks that this profession, because of it’s requirement to attention to detail, isn’t for me. I don’t even understand where my concentration goes or/and how I end up making an error. Also, I don’t feel like working, because I know that even with my best efforts, I am going to deliver a substandard work product. Even so, I like law and transactions in general. Part of me wants to be in the profession for whatever reason.

I need guidance as to how to proceed. I saw another post here on making a checklist. What should the checklist consist of? Is there anything else I can do to help myself? I am trying to take my work slow, but even then, I catch some things amiss on a re-read when the document has been sent out. After that, my morale reaches a low point and I don’t feel like working all over again. Because of this, I have been feeling very anxious as well, which was not a problem as much even when I was burdened with a lot of work.

Your comment would make a lot of sense in the year 2000. Today, things have changed. A generalist law degree (like a BA-LLB) followed by an LLM in a special area would make sense. Today, that differentiation is happening at the UG level itself. There is a reason why questions are being raised about having generalist civil service officers versus specialist ones. The need and demand for specialist roles are rising.

At the current moment, all top law colleges are managed and led by those who are products of the traditional BA-LLB-oriented thinking and approach; hence, they will resist change. For real transformation to happen, the current crop has to retire, and new law schools that are not bound by archaic thinking have to crop up. It is happening, and they are NOT going to be the state NLUs. Let's talk after 10 years. Sure. By then, it will be embarrassing to even say that one holds a BA-LLB degree.

GS is a purely Supreme Court lawyer, that does not mean he is being briefed in commercial matters - he appears in a lot of service and writ matters.

If anything both Akhil and Amit Sibal are doing both hardcore commercial matters before all Courts and Tribunals, and are probably earning more than GS.

PS - Earning more or working exclusively in the Supreme Court is no measure of success. My point is both GS and the Sibal brothers are doing well and are on similar levels - one can't compare

How many times did you fail CLAT? You seem to have some extraordinary grudge/feeling of hate against T1 Indian law firms that those who passed CLAT usually don't.
