I have worked in Karanjawala, and the pay is decent, although not up to the standard of a T1 firm. However, it is better than the current pay structures of AOR offices.

It's almost impossible to get a position without a serious level of connection in the good teams, and you cannot do your independent practice. But bringing the work to the firm gets you a 30% share of the total billing on that case; even if you leave the firm, the firm continues to pay.

The worst part of Karanjawala is the delays in salary; there is almost a 3-4 months delay prevailing for the Associates/Senior Associates, 6-7 months for Principal Associates and 8-9 months for Partners. So, effectively, you work for free for months without getting any remuneration for it.

Right now, Kalyan’s camp is out of favour, so I wouldn’t be surprised if Kishore is sacked and Amitesh Banerjee, or even Sanjay himself, is made the new AG.

ICICI bank offer letter query

Hello everyone, I am writing this post with great hopes.

I recently (in last week of July) interviewed with ICICI Bank for an opening at NBCC Office. I received an email informing me that my profile has been shortlisted for further processing and post which HR even called the next day to upload the remaining documents. Should I be expecting an offer letter from ICICI, if yes, when can I expect to receive the same?

I agree and so do LLB students. The fact that they have expanded the student body without understanding the market dynamics is just sad...We have had both representatives from BA LLB and LLB being told on how the college does not want to 'chase' market trends. Unfortunately that is hurting the prospects of students in both these programs. LLBs had to fight them to keep corp law as a subject in early trimesters and they aren't even taught corp law 2. Apparently when a LLB representation went to the authorities concerned, they were told that things like FEMA, IBC aren't important, which is laughable and shows how out of touch some of these people are.

Any idea about people who were successful in practice but gave up practice to do something else? Were they burnt out? Or did they choose? What were their motivations? I can only think of Umakanth - top partner leaving practice at the top and then doing academia equally successfully. Anyone else? Anyone who switched off from the law totally?

So I'll clear your doubt. What sets apart GLC from any other "lax attendance college" is the criteria to get into GLC. 20000 people on an average appear for MHCET out of which top 150 get in. These are the best 150 minds of the state which now have 5 years in their hands to do whatever they want to. Me and many others like me have 20+ months of internship experience, making us conversant with every law there is to know which is 'relevant' to our field of practice. So now at the end of 5 years, we are atleast 2 years ahead in terms of experience all while still being a 'fresher' which makes us best suited for any recruiter.

You too have that option. And yeah, why to chase a job where you're underpaid? Why you want me to go in another field to improve your chances of getting a job where you're underpaid in your view. Go ahead, find a non legal job, which will pay you more, in line with your abilities.

But why are you looking to leave law when there are no jobs. Just open your firm, pay the correct level of wages and obviously, you'll have your pick of legal talent. And as it's your firm, you'll earn all profits.

And yeah, if you think you're underpaid, just leave. No one holds you back. Just leave, go and take a job in any other field and earn what you think you deserve because of course you'll be great at anything but the legal community doesn't pay you your just comp.

What's stopping you from clocking 3 hours at the university through the biometric and then going back home to do all your great research? Such a bad logic! Accountability is what you're seeking to avoid. As for teaching and research, everyone knows how 'great' Jindal faculty are in those parameters.

I don't come from money. I live with a single parent in a metropolitan city. Both of us have chronic health issues. I simply can't afford to survive on peanuts for years with a remote possibility of having my own practice someday. I admit not seriously considering the possibility of unemployment during or before graduation. I was certain I'd land somewhere atleast but it wasn't meant to be.

Supreme court used to be dominated by Lawyers from Bombay and Madras. Kapil became Delhi bars' first lawyer of some importance in the Supreme Court. He left behind Jethmalani, Nariman, Divan, Sorabjee etc in 90s itself and virtually became the no. 1 sr. In the late 90s.

Infact Jethmalani asked him to argue Sanjay Dutt's bail petition after failing repeatedly to get Sanjay out. Sibal got him bail but the whole credit was take by Ram Jethmalani and Satish Maneshinde. Kapil defended LK Advani including Jain brothers in the Jain Hawala case but again Jethmalani took credit of LK Adavni's aquittal. Lawyers like Salve and Jaitley used to brief Kapil in their younger days and Sibal was just 5-7 yrs older to them.

Do you think they wouldn't all love to go work at NLS in a heart beat if they could? How deluded are JGLS folks to think that theyre some sought after commodity. You do realise the JGLS interview to be a faculty person lasts all of two minutes ? (Literally, because I gave one and was offered a job). They barely ask you anything except- will you teach what youre asked to? will you leave after you join?

NLS on the other hand makes you do multiple interviews for a permanent position.

Why do you think that is? JGLS wants to hire more professors than they have- because they have continuous attrition cause no one good wants to stick around. And NLS wants to be very selective about who they hire, because there are too many good candidates and they only have a few spots. Any number of JGLS faculty apply to NLS jobs every term that theyre advertised and do not even make the cut to interview.

depends on which team and position you're interviewing for. overall, expect mainly CV based questions and know your CV like the back of your hand. they will also ask you a few general questions based on which team you have applied to, so know basics of the Companies Act and Contact Act if the interview is for the Gen Corp team, for example.

How many lawyers in India can you tell that have defended a judge in a parliament.

Name a few, NLUs haven't produced one decent authority on IHRL. The only ones we can refer to are international environmental law like Rajamani, TWAIL like Anand and Chimni, or international trade like Ranjan etc. IHRL, IHL or even PIL doesn't have world class academics in India.

Not the fellow who wrote the original comment or any comment. I disagree. If you have a clear direction, (which 90% don't) there is nothing wrong with going full throttle from 1st year onwards. This "chill" business can be done simultaneously, to avoid burnout. However, that doesn't mean you end up skipping classes, missing interaction with seniors, joining useless clubs, going to subpar internships and waiting for professors to guide you. No one is encouraging to be a workaholic and skipping fun. However, if someone knows the end goal, they should work towards it. OP take breaks, but don't "chill" because people tell you to, chill when you feel tired and drained out.

In no particular order, I mentioned a few names that came to me who are well known from the Calcutta and Bombay Bar of the yesteryears. Each of them, regardless of who they supported or what they did [SS Ray and Niren De for emergency, for example], they were the doyens of the Bar, for entire India. Each of them, barring very few, would have travelled all over India or substantially all over, aside from their parent HC, and the supreme court/federal court/privy council. You think he can be anywhere near them? Maybe you'd remove the names of a few, sure. But still Top 10? I don't think so.

I am going to start law school and i am really really confused I have 2 options Nmims Mumbai and Pravin Gandhi (Pgcl) which one should i choose and why?? Absolutely agreed, especially after the ruckus created by the retarded batch of 2023 - the student community seems to be doing quite well. Sure, a lot of people from batches of 2024 and 2025 were druggies and would hide their incompetence/ inactivity for preparing for the help judiciary there were some very helping and pure hearted people as well. I personally have largely benefitted from some of my seniors from BO 24 who are now placed in T1 law firms (am talking about the 2 Ms - if you know little about that batch, you'll know). Was thanking one of them yesterday after successfully joining a T1 myself. To all the juniors - avoid drugs and people who'll not do literally anything in life (there are a large number of them there lol) and you'll do great, trust me. Reach out to people placed in T1 from BO 24 if you need guidance on recruitment and all - i remember he was kind enough to take all mock interviews for my friends and helped restructure their CVs too. All the best!

I totally agree. Vivek Reddy is the real deal. Unlike many - SNR Sr Adv including, he is an exceptionally generous if not THE MOST GENEROUS paymaster and a kind mentor. 1. Ideally, have generational wealth to support you at all times in your life.

2..Try to go abroad, because Indian PhDs are often more stress inducing, in finding, entrance and everything else.

3. Market is tight. You've got to have things to stand yourself out.

5. Connections matter quite a lot while appointments.

Are you out of your mind? He is a mediocre, publicity hungry politician who happens to be in court. You will not be able to name a SINGLE important case or legal contribution of his in history.
