And the point of this remark is... what exactly? If it is what I think it is, you are confusing quality with quantity, and confusing historical timelines. The non-NLU universities have had a monopoly over it because of time they have existed, not necessarily because of expertise. It is more lucky coincidence than anything else.

1. If you cannot go onto the university's website itself and look up peoples' profiles, I really can't help you. Your law degree should have taught how to use the most basic search engine, Google, if nothing else. I am not possessed of the skills to train the Legally India bitter commentators equivalent of WhatsApp University-trained Uncle and WhatsApp University-trained Aunty. The events, as just one example, are the stuff of dreams for those who have landed in poorer quality universities.

2. I will personally admit, on the VC's behalf, that he probably could not do as much as he would have liked either in constitutional law or law and philosophy. But that's because being a full time university administrator, while also teaching, is hard. In the western universities it is possible to continue a research career in his position equivalent, (a) because VCs don't teach in those places (I know this first-hand, having been to one such); and (b) the nonsense of Indian higher-ed (VCs having to deal with politicians who aren't even sixth class pass) isn't there in many societies outside of India. Building the type of Humboldtian-style research culture he aims for takes time and his record may, if looked at objectively from what an Ivy/RG counterpart's CV might look like, is very possibly underwhelming. That's because Indian universities' teaching loads (including those at NLS) are higher compared to counterparts elsewhere in the world. Can you produce the research output of a George Letsas while having the teaching and other loads of a standard Indian academia contract?

3. The PhD supervisor of a person is a very important connection of theirs to "name-drop" (read: simple mention) in connection to them. Why should Paul Craig's supervision of Sudhir be irrelevant compared to the fact Joseph Raz did DPhil (same final degree as Krishnaswamy under craig) under supervision of HLA Hart? Why would all obituaries of Raz (a 1000 times better academic than anybody at any Indian law school), including the London Times one, mention supervision of him under Hart and those defending Sudhir not his being supervised by Paul Craig? Supposedly, Raz's life and CV were now indicating that the fact he studied under Hart was no longer relevant, but evidently, those who actually matter didn't seem to think so. So you are holding Sudhir to a standard - that too, a double standard - that even Raz is not held to. Considering the miserable state of Indian legal education (well below 6/10 on a 10 point scale), we should be dancing for joy at the mere fact that an ex Paul Craig student was attracted back to our country to serve as a legal educator. And you are not doing anything to raise that base standard, may I just note. As he himself has said, during his time, there was a "distinct sense" that NLSIU kind of law schools were not really on the "higher education map" in India, let alone abroad. Sudhir has not only made sure beyond any scope for reasonable doubt that it is very much on the Indian map, but has also put it on the map globally. Just because you are attending some law college that opened its doors yesterday whose position is such that it is attracting NLSIU BALLB top rankers without LLM or PhD or work ex as teachers and you are having wet dreams in which its name overtakes NLS's doesn't mean anything to me, frankly.

I was scrolling through this thread now after seeing the messages on this, finally someone who is not portraying him as a proper villain. I don't agree with you as losing control is not a justification at all but atleast he owned up and I respect that. As I understand no one actually saw what happened and he could have very easily denied doing anything. Everyone makes mistakes and what I see here is someone who has paid for it.

I really don’t think you realise how small NUJS actually is until you’re forced to live in close quarters with close to 400 people on this small campus. We’ve all, at some point, interacted with him, regardless of how small or insignificant that interaction was. Our campus is 5 acres at best, with 2 hostels and 1 acad block in all of that. Every single one of us had to pass by the hostels with fucking reminders of what had happened, which certainly wasn’t helped by the cordoned off construction tape blocking of half of campus. We lost someone, and yes a lot of us might not’ve known him too well, or at all, but he was still one of us. He was still a kid man. Please stop spewing vitriol and have a little more sympathy for the ones who’ve lost a friend, batchmate and a junior. Not everything needs to be a self-motivated act that needs to be called out by apparent social warriors on the internet.

First year student (F) of NUJS here. When I saw the mail I was surprised, as A bhaiya is one of the most sweet and welcoming seniors. He helped some of my batchmates also during a party when they were blacked out drunk and made sure they were safe. Last month when we were all shook by J's passing, he was the one who made efforts to comfort many of my batchmates and me. It is very difficult for me to believe that he slapped A didi coz they were very close whenever I saw them together. I suspect there is something missing here coz the story does not add up. I have always felt very safe around him more than any other senior. I think he lost control in the heat of the moment but I still think he is not a bad person at heart. What he did was wrong but there has to be a different explanation.

Speaking as someone who has been friends with both, the matter did not escalate coz he was actually sorry about what he did and said that he will accept any punishment that she wanted. She asked for a public apology and he gave it. He took accountability and she did not want it to blow up.

The TMC has no existence outside of Bengal. They lost deposits on all their seats even in Tripura, the only other Bengali state. Also, the party is just a party of two people: aunt and nephew. The CBI and ED are now going to come all out for the nephew and choke the party’s finances, while the aunt will find it hard to make a comeback. The TMC cadre and politicians will also switch. The Hindus will join the BJP, the Muslims and committed secularists will join either the Congress or the two new Islamic parties, ISF and AJUP (doubt if the Left will touch anyone from the TMC).

Where does this leave Menaka? No way she’s getting a second term as RS MP, given that the seats will be reduced and allocated to the heavyweights who lost in the election, including Mamata herself? So will she be satisfied being a one-term MP, or will she join another party?

Won’t this lead to clashes between the students and the college, given that the students are anti-BJP? Episodes involving Jagdeep Dhankar, J Sai Deepak etc? If the new governing body tries to impose right-wing speakers and right-wing ideology, we could see a serious flashpoint protests by students.

MG lost the respect of a lot of people by accepting the seat. Mind you, she could have joined the Congress or Left or AAP and opposed Modi without the comforts of an RS seat. Many lawyers quietly work for such parties without any reward, out of genuine ideological conviction. But MG wanted an RS seat and joined a throughly corrupt party with zero ideology.

Instead of addressing these underlying issues, there have been instances where those maintaining a more balanced and sustainable working approach have been criticised.

While the team offers a strong mix of enforcement and merger-related work, the allocation of such work has increasingly become location-centric. At the same time, a minority section of resources has been carrying a disproportionately high workload, leaving little room for personal time. There is a clear need for prompt hiring, along with a broader internal recalibration to address these concerns.

I’m currently in my third year of law school, about to enter fourth year, and honestly my CV is pretty bad right now. I’m from a tier 2/3 college and my CGPA is quite low. I’ve been trying to improve it, but nothing has really worked out so far.

I’ve only done internships in litigation and policy till now, and I haven’t had any corporate law firm experience. The thing is, I don’t even see myself going into corporate law long-term, but I still want to try it out at least once at a good firm, just to be sure and not regret it later.

I genuinely feel like I’m a hardworking person. If someone gives me work, I take it seriously and try to do it properly. It’s just that my grades don’t reflect that at all, which makes things harder.

Right now I feel a bit lost and behind compared to others, but I also feel like it’s not too late to fix things if I start now. I just don’t know where or how to apply with this kind of profile.

Good that you are at least aware of your situation, work hard now. I was in a similar situation but understood this only at the time of Day Zero though was lucky enough to get an offer from a T-1.
Give most of your time to academics now, put in an extra effort in project making, go through your university PYQs, its never too late.
