The quality of the deals is down to the M&A teams present in the firm.
They are not generating their own deals. Competition teams rarely originate work.
Most deal lawyers would prefer more certainty from competition lawyers - rarely get it.
Deal teams need to understand that not highlighting the issues and points of uncertainty can cause trouble later on - including for the deal team, since they may have a higher degree of client interface and are the point of matter generation.
I’ve had very good working relationships with deal teams that understand this. I’ve also worked with deal teams that don’t understand this… and, well, god bless them.
Anyways a lot of good resources are moving away, i dont know if its because of inadequate pay, team politics or work environment.
Plus there is no official split in Bombay and Delhi associates - they work across partners in mixed teams, on different matters.
I promise I'm not trying to be smart. Just need better education on law firm dynamics. So if there is a way that both these can be true, please explain it to me (as if I were five years old).
Even those getting 200% bonus in SAM are paid less than AZB folks.
