Symbiosis Law School alumnus Aninda Pal joined Juris Corp as a partner in its mergers & acquisitions (M&A) and private equity (PE) practice from November 2015, according to a press release from the firm last week. Pal has worked in Trilegal as a counsel in its corporate legal team for more than eight years before this.

Former Luthra & Luthra Delhi litigation partner Ashish Prasad is now a partner in Economic Laws Practice’ Delhi disputes practice, according to a press release from the firm.

Prasad, who was poached by ELP from Luthra, is the sixth partner in ELP’s Delhi office, after counting associate partners as well, according to ELP’s emailed announcement confirming his joining the firm.

He is a 2003-graduate alumnus of Delhi University’s law school and also had a stint at Lall & Sethi before Luthra and ELP.

His expertise includes commercial litigation, intellectual property, contracts, government and regulatory work in telecom, infrastructure, FMCG, pharma, information technology, media, foreign investments and the defence sector, according to ELP’s press release.

Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas acted as legal counsel to the US’ LyondellBasell Group in its acquisition of the chemical business of Aurangabad-based company SJS Plastiblends, which was advised by Economic Laws Practice (ELP).

The acquisition signed on 7 August involves transfer of the whole business of manufacturing, distribution and sales of polypropylene compounds conducted by SJS Plastiblends, as reported by the Economic Times and others.

The Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas was led by Mumbai-based corporate partners Vandana Shroff and Anshuman Jaiswal, assisted by New Delhi-based tax partner SR Patnaik and competition law advice by Mumbai-based competition partner Nisha Kaur Uberoi.

KPMG acted as financial advisors to the LyondellBasell Group.

SJS Plastiblends Private Limited was advised by ELP associate partner Amit Manubarwala, with Singhi Advisors acting as its financial advisors.

New York Stock Exchange listed LyondellBasell is one of the world’s largest plastics, chemicals and refining companies and has an existing India presence.

Jeet Sen Gupta, who left Economic Laws Practice (ELP) in April, has joined Juris Corp as its eighth partner, managing partner H Jayesh told Bar & Bench, saying: “As a firm, we are implementing growth drivers and as part of that strategy, Jeet has joined us and will help us take the firm to the next level.”

Juris Corp had promoted two to partner in March, following a string of senior and junior departures.

Economic Laws Practice (ELP) banking and finance partner Jeet Sen Gupta has resigned the firm, as confirmed by managing partner Rohan Shah to Bar & Bench.

Sen Gupta began his career at ELP after graduating from Symbiosis Law College in 2001, joined Amarchand Mumbai as a senior associate in 2007 and returned to ELP after two years where he was promoted as a partner in 2012.

ELP partner Suhail Naithani, associate partner Vinayak Burman, senior associate Archana Khosla and associate Amoolya Narayan acted for Tano. A&M partner Viral Mehta and associate P Goel acted for Arohan.

Investors and stakeholders are increasingly becoming enthusiastic about microfinance institutions, reported the Business Standard.
