Symbiosis Pune 2009 alumnus Utpal Kant and RMLNLU Lucknow 2011 alumnus Prashant Kanha started up corporate and litigation firm Sequitur in Noida this month, and helped Pune based backpacking hospitality platform Backpacker Panda raise $1.4m.

Sequitur Advocates & Legal Consultants partner Utpal Kant acted in the Series A Funding round of $1.4m in Backpacker Panda was led by 37.37 North Capital, as reported by Business World on 8 February.

Kant was consulting independently and had Backpacker as a client since August 2016 when he left AZB & Partners as an associate.

He decided to start up Sequitur with independent litigator Kanha, with Backpacker's mandate primarily providing the push behind the move, he said.

Kant noted that he is now a permanent external legal advisor for the three-year old hostel chain.

He would act on Sequitur's corporate mandates, and seek further clients in the PE and VC space, while Kanha would act on litigation matters with a special focus on real estate.

Sequitur has two associates in addition to the two founding partners and was currently functioning from a co-working space in Noida's Logix City Centre mall.
