Former NLUO Cuttack vice chancellor (VC) Dr Chandra Krishnamurthy has been accused by teachers of Pondicherry University – which she heads since 2013 – of plagiarising a book she authored. The teachers have been clamouring for her removal from the post of VC on this ground, reported the Express.
The Pondicherry University Teachers Association (PUTA) has written to Union HRD minister Smriti Irani seeking Krishnamurthy’s removal and a probe into her academic credentials, on the alleged ground of “this shameful and indefensible act of academic theft and cheating” which “makes her position as head of an institution, that too of a central university, absolutely untenable”.
Krishnamurthy hung up when called up for comment by Legally India.
Krishnamurthy’s resume mentions her having written a book called Legal Education in India (2009 and 2011), whereas allegedly, five of its eight chapters were verbatim copies of articles written by eminent legal scholars.
The Express added that two other books mentioned in her resume may have never been published at all.
Krishnamurthy has called for a PU executive council meeting on Monday to ratify the minutes of a June 2014 meeting repatriating PU’s registrar and approving new recruitments and 25 per cent reservations for local students in admission to the university. The meeting had been held as “cancelled” by the HRD ministry, for violating rules.
Her appointment to PU had previously been challenged in the Madras high court as arbitrary. Krishnamurthy had joined PU after she completed barely eight months at NLUO as ts VC.
