Trilegal hits back at CAM, poaches white collar crime partner Kunal Gupta

Trilegal has hired Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas (CAM) partner Kunal Gupta as a partner in white-collar crime investigations in Delhi.

Trilegal partner Nishant Parikh commented in a press release: “Kunal is one of the leading forensics and investigations lawyers in the country with significant global experience. Kunal’s experience will further bolster the firm’s white-collar crime investigations practice.”

He had joined CAM in 2016 (not without controversy: his former employer Grant Thornton had threatened to sue him over joining for breach of contract; Gupta strongly denied this and the kerfuffle eventually went nowhere).

Gupta works on white collar crime issues including FCPA, UK Bribery Act and Indian Prevention of Corruption Act legislations.

Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas managing partner Cyril Shroff said: “We wish him well.”

He is a 2004 NLSIU Bangalore graduate, who had previously also worked for a year at Luthra & Luthra (as it then was), the World Bank and PwC before moving to Grant Thornton in 2014.

Trilegal, which had initially been somewhat lateral-hire shy (at least at partnership levels), has been somewhat active there, with the hire of AZB & Partners partner Harsh Maggon in June (though it’s also lost a bunch of counsel and senior partner Ravindra Bandhakavi, who of course went to CAM).
