J Sagar Associates (JSA) has hired Apurva Jayant, a corporate partner who had recently left L&L Partners, as a partner in its Mumbai office.
Way before having been a partner at Samvad Partners and then Luthra & Luthra, as it was called in 2016 when she joined, she had started her career at JSA for half a year after graduating NLSIU Bangalore in 2007.
She then had joined AZB & Partners followed by Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas until 2013.
According to an announcement by JSA’s joint managing partners Amit Kapur and Vivek Chandy:
J. Sagar Associates is pleased to welcome Ms. Apurva Jayant as a Retained Partner in the Corporate team, in Mumbai. She will be joining us on 9th November, 2020 along with her team.
With 13 years of experience in M&A, Joint Ventures and General Corporate, Apurva will be able to provide excellent service to our clients.
Apurva joins us from Luthra and Luthra. She is a 2007 graduate of National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore.
We are delighted to have her on board and believe she will have a long and successful career with JSA.
We have reached out to Luthra for comment.
We understand that at L&L, she had a team of 10.
Her hire follows shortly from L&L hiring J Sagar Associates (JSA) technology, media and telecoms partner Asim Abbas.
We had reported last month that Jayant and another L&L corporate partner in Delhi, Samarth Gupta, had given notice to leave the firm, just as the dispute between the two L&L corporate equity partners had hit the Delhi high court.

Worked at AMSS for 5 months?
2. She knows how to get work done properly.
3. She is a decent human being.
4. She sided with Mohit in all the partners meetings. There are at least two recorded instances of her talking back to Mr Luthra in partners meetings on the equity issue and the litigation firm quality issue. This was seen (not proven) as a sign of the larger quid pro quo between Mohit and her.
5. She drafted the ill fated partnership deed that Mohit floated on October 12-13, 2020. This is so well known that even the office guards know this.
6. Mohit sang her praises [...]
7. Her exit was completely unanticipated given how, public perception wise, she was seen firmly in Mohit's camp and was part of his inner circle.
Kian - either publish all of the above or none. There is a trend here that you disallow balanced comments and only allow either wholly negative or wholly positive comments. Legally India is not in the business of writing puff pieces and it shouldn't start now.
