HSA Advocates has hired Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas (CAM) Mumbai partner Saurya Bhattacharya as a corporate partner.
While based in Mumbai, the 2007 NUJS Kolkata graduate will also be responsible for leading the firm’s Kolkata corporate practice, “leveraging his existing experience in Kolkata and the associated markets”, said the firm.
He had begun his career at the erstwhile Amarchand Mangaldas in Mumbai, getting promoted to partner at CAM in 2017.
Bhattacharya advises domestic and foreign clients, including on domestic and cross border corporate deals, according to HSA.
The sectors he focuses on include education, food and agriculture, consumer, and healthcare and pharma.
Managing partner Hemant Sahai commented: “We are very happy to welcome Saurya to HSA’s corporate M&A and commercial team, which continues to be one of the strong practice offerings of the firm.
“In addition to his pureplay transactional and advisory practice, Saurya will add an important dimension to and anchor some of our existing and upcoming strategic initiatives centred around specific industry sectors and select international jurisdictions,” he said.
Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas managing partner Cyril Shroff commented about Bhattacharya’s departure: “We will always wish him well.”

Couldn't agree more. I have nothing to do with the two firms involved but all people do here in the comments section is diss law firms. The focus is rarely on the story and the people but mostly on whining and bitching about firms using the cloak of anonymity. It's time for some constructive non sarcastic comments here.
While I am sure that several pundits will chime in with boat loads of 'wit' and sarcasm, try and find a connect with an existing member of the firm for a true, unbiased view. People who leave a firm seldom have positive things to say, more so when the platform is anonymized such as LI. From friends in HSA, I hear good things - they have several recent hires from CAM, SAM and other firms. There's some cashflow pressure but they seem to be addressing it.
This is interesting because their regulatory team seemed very active and always occupied even during lockdown period. Thought they were raking in mollah even when others were struggling.
I heard that the retainer disbursement is now 2 months behind, down from the earlier 4. Tough times for mid and small sized firms all around, but they seem to have found their footing post the lockdown shocks. These firms have been around for a long time and its difficult to fathom their continuing existence if half the comments on LI were true.
I have seen Saurya across the table on a couple of deals. Humble, understated, thoughtful lawyer. Good pick by HSA and hope they give him the right opportunities.
Well done, Saurya! Wish you all the best. I remember your dynamism and I am sure you will do well with HSA, too. Remain your humble and grounded self. Hope we get to work again soon. Cheers!

Which other mid and small size firms have reduced retainers AND delayed disbursing them for 3 months?
