Jones Day has promoted India-focused banking and finance partner Sushma Jobanputra as partner-in-charge of its Singapore office to succeed David Longstaff.

Jones Day managing partner Stephen J Brogan said in a press release: "Singapore has been and will only strengthen its position as the infrastructure center for the ASEAN nations which have a total population equal to China. Singapore also serves as a gateway to India, particularly with respect to the capital markets."

A Canadian national of Indian origin, Jobanputra was previously a Linklaters London partner after which she joined Barclays Capital as a managing director before her appointment as a Jones Day partner in 2008.

She recently represented a number of Indian corporate such as ICICI Bank, Godrej Consumer Products and Tata Technologies as well as others like PT Bumi Resources and Procter & Gamble, according to a statement by the firm.

After his eight-year long tenure, former office head Longstaff will now concentrate on the firm’s presence in the Indonesian legal market.
