DLA Piper Singapore and India group partner Biswajit Chatterjee, who was promoted in 2011 and later formally designated as co-head of the India group, has joined Squire Patton Boggs to co-lead its India practice alongside partner Dharmendra Nair who is based in London.

Chatterjee had joined DLA in 2008 from Allen & Overy and holds a 1997 law degree from NLSIU Bangalore, with several years of India-based experience  of having worked with P&A Law Offices.

The dual US and India-qualified lawyer specialises in capital markets.

The US firm’s Singapore managing partner Ignatius Hwang said in a press release: “We have been looking for some time to find the right person to spearhead our corporate practice in South East Asia. In Biswajit we have found an individual with exactly the right blend of ambition and experience to develop our services in this field…”

Asia Pacific chair of Squires’ global corporate practice added: “Biswajit will provide an additional India-outbound dimension to our corporate practice, as well as adding a US securities law and capital markets capability in Singapore that complements our thriving Hong Kong capital markets practice.”

DLA Piper partner Daniel Sharma, who was co-heading DLA’s India group with Chatterjee, said that while the firm had no official comment, “we of course wish Biswajit all the best for the future”.
