According to several sources, Chawla tendered his resignation earlier this week. Delhi principal associate Niti Paul, who is married to Chawla, is understood to have resigned earlier in November.
After graduating in 1990 from Kurukshetra University, Chawla had been at Kochhar & Co before joining Luthra & Luthra in 1995.
He left Luthra in 2000, poaching several associates, to start his own firm Chawla & Co. Paul joined the firm in 2001 from an in-house role at Rolls Royce India.
Both joined Amarchand in October 2008.
Chawla, alongside Delhi partner Gunjan Shah and Mumbai partners SH Bhojani and L Viswanathan, is currently one of four non-Shroff family member partners on the firm’s management committee, which also includes Cyril Shroff, Shardul Shroff and Barathi Shroff, as well as two members who are not part of the firm.
He also co-heads the corporate practice in Delhi with Shah.
Legally India could not confirm Chawla’s future plans at the time of going to press.
He did not return any calls or emails for comment and Paul was also not reachable.
An Amarchand Delhi spokesperson declined to comment on his departure.

Why was this comment allowed? Isn't it SPAM?
What is your problem with NALSAR? Jealous much?
All the best to Harry. Hope he goes somewhere befitting his status.
JSA too. I havnt come across a single desi firm that is run like a professional org. They're all either pathetic, obnoxious or borderline criminal in the way they treat associates and partners who are not family or non founder.
How do you survive - (a) either have a considerable number of clients and contribute materially to the firms revenues - then the firm will hold onto you as it does for dear life (yes i have not referred to knowledge of law intentionally although it can be an added advantage) or (b)if you are on the bottom of the food chain - be patient, do your work properly, nod your head always and believe the journey is the destination in itself. Over a period of time or sooner or later you will hit (a).
In short - no point in complianing about desi firms - this is India man and you have to adapt
There is nothing to prevent our indian firms from changing the way they work and it has nothing to do with clients.
Second this in toto!
@ Kian - have you taken the 'Recommend' button away or is it just me who can't see it (on this post at least)?
Paku Khan?? No one even knew of him before he joined AMSS. Strangely, even at Khaitan Manas continues to be the real head of the practice. Ciccu, Aseem and now Harry, will be massive losses to Delhi. There are two other partners moving out soon. Shardul clearly does not seem concerned. These exits and the CLB goof up are signs of a badly managed firm.
Sidhartha Dutta is running the office .. he is trying his best to keep the flock together..
Who is that ? Never heard of him at all. Has he been here for long ? In fact, I asked around. Nobody really seems to have heard of him. Is he from Kolkata ?
Are you referring to the attrition rate? Going by the wrath of mighty 'M' that is quite a close possibility.
Had bumped into Niloy Pyne in London a couple of times in last few months. He was here for some pvt equity matters, I on behalf of my firm was acting for the Fund. There is a strong rumor that he has entered into a tie-up with a UK firm and they have opened or about to open in India with him. Some Supreme Court of India judgement that doesn't permit opening of such offices in India, is posing some obstacles I believe.
"Some Supreme Court of India judgment..posing obstacles..." - Are you serious?!
