BMR Legal on the verge of folding as only other partner Vishal Kalra set to resign, leaving behind founder Mukesh Butani

BMR Legal partnership set to dissolve? Delhi partner Vishal Kalra to leave
BMR Legal partnership set to dissolve? Delhi partner Vishal Kalra to leave

BMR Legal partner Vishal Kalra is set to leave the firm with his team of around 10 lawyers, once again leaving behind founding partner Mukesh Butani as the only partner in the firm.

The 1997 Delhi University law alumnus Kalra was made partner in April 2017, after the mass exodus of all of BMR Legal's partners, except Butani, to Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas.

It is understood that Kalra will go independent. He declined to comment at the time of going to press.

Kalra started his career at BMR & Associates in November 2008, after two years with Vaish Associates, and joined BMR Legal as principal associate in April 2013 before being made partner this year.

BMR Legal's sister consultancy BMR Advisors, which was also founded by Butani, is gradually folding up with Deloitte first absorbing its corporate tax practice earlier this week and, as speculated during that merger, KPMG yesterday reportedly announcing that it is absorbing BMR's M&A practice that has 12 partners and 100 professionals.

Butani was not reachable for comment by phone and has been emailed for comment at the time of going to press.
