- Chief Justice Roberts, while criticising affirmative action.
https://www.cato.org/blog/way-stop-discrimination-basis-race-stop-discriminating-basis-race
This excellent quote epitomises the problem with race-based affirmative action in the US and caste-based reservation in India. Gen Z is graduating from college and soon Gen Alpha will take over. It's ridiculous that general category youths in these generations, born in the 2000s, are being penalised for misdeeds of their ancestors thousands of years ago! That goes against all principles of fairness!
If a person can't crack CLAT or the IAS in the merit list, that's because he/she isn't bright or hardworking enough, not because he/she is "oppressed". It's high time a challenge to the Indra Sawhney decision was mounted in the SC, citing the US Supreme Court decision.
Word of advice to the juniors - Work as hard as you can. Make sure your CV doesn't comprise of only grades but all sorts of extra curricular activities. Participate in moots (if thats not possible due to shitty people handling MCC) go for publications (you don't need an external help here). Focus on quality and quantity both. Go for international publications (people have done it in the past and I see no reason why you guys cannot). Beef up your CV. Talk to seniors who are currently placed at different law firms. They should be able to help you guys. Conduct webinars by associating with different law firms, increase visibility of the college and only then you can get rid of all these stigma.

The only advantages of LLM (from your POV) is if you are going for a PSU job or in-house as a fresher. Even then they would rather just hire someone with a couple of years experience. The law firm life is mostly CV based.
I am a recent graduate and have just joined a T1 firm. I want to desperately (for personal reason) move out of the country? I am okay with most jurisdictions i.e. UK, Ireland, Singapore, Australia, Canada & US.
Can someone who is experienced or has friends who have successfully made this maneuver please guide me? I know itโs bit difficult to transfer without some experience in Indian law firms but I am still holding out some hope.
P.s.: Please refrain from replying if you just want to make a comment on my decision to move out, I am looking for genuine advice.
Thank you in advance.
His law firm analogy is funny as hell: https://twitter.com/law_ninja/status/1677222291963523072?s=20
I am paid 11.5L and upto 4.5L bonus (depends on billing how much will I receive, I expect at least 3 L and probably 4L if the billing rate continues as is) as an A1.
Wake up.
lmao bro tarnishing is being done by whoever wrote that horribly unfunny, crass message to juniors. NLUJ should be embarrassed if this is the output of their fancy lot.
This could also be a message to lawyers to beef up their Twitter profile if they have political aspirations. J Sai Deepak, Karuna Nundy are Sanjay Hegde are all examples of lawyers whose fame has been greatly enhanced by social media. Among Gen Z, you have people like NUJS alum Aishwarya Mudgil (from the right) and GNLU alum Rohin Bhat (from the left) getting a lot of traction on Twitter.
NOTE: Regarding the title of my post, I refer to Saket Gokhale as a social media influencer because he is primarily known as a social media influencer (despite now joining the TMC) and became established on that basis. For example, an MP like Shashi Tharoor does not count despite his huge Twitter following, as he was already established in other fields before becoming a social media influencer. Same applies to Sachin Tendulkar, Mary Kom, Gautam Gambhir, Subramanian Swamy, Navjot Sidhu etc etc, who were/are all MPs. Saket Gokhale is very different than all of them, hence the title.

I have made the link, Kindly join. this will be only for job-specific, finding jobs and referring the portal. guidance and cv review.
no spamming, no sharing of media except relevant to the purpose of the group.
which one of NLUs will ever come closer too.

So see your defining reasons. Mine was that my dad was posted in Hyderabad and my then girlfriend (and now wife) was also in Hyderabad. It made no sense for me to join NLS or that I would gain anything extra by going there. So hoping you can find YOUR reason.
when the most stereotype joke is are you a lawyer or liar?
or when they say it to your face or behind you, that lawyers are shit.
that's the respect you're talking about?
or when a young lawyer practicing is hardly making anything to meet bare end, or when he cant even go out to a restaurant with friend thinking of his share at home only and making up some excuses, even though your friends know you're broke, or when you're at the dating age but could not date because you have no money, and probably will have to settle with someone you dont want.
Yeah lots of respect in the society.
As for the guy whoโs arguing that practical experience is more important, you are the definition of โtell me you youโre not from a top NLU without telling me youโre not from a top NLUโ. Thereโs a reason why GLC is not ever in the same league as the top 4-5 NLUs despite the so-called โpractical exposureโ.
Iโm sure his family will contest this part of the will. But you have to ask if she genuinely loved him or just the money? Sheโs young enough to be his granddaughter.

In terms of money, if an ice cream juggler is smart he can train 20 jugglers, open a chain of parlours and possibly make more money than most lawyers.
How and why did he make partner with PQE 4 at age of 27?

As far as my two cents go, I think NLS is a better option because of its superior faculty and historical brand. Look at it this way, NLS is the only NLU that could do something like this crazy expansion plan and still manage to stay on top (albeit with a lot of downsides to the huge batch size). NALSAR is already behind NLUD and if NALSAR or NLUD or NUJS did the same expansion idea, that would be like institutional suicide.
And I say this not being from GLC
One option that would make moderation easier is to give certain additional posting privileges to logged in accounts (without an email address) and with a good posting history, but that would not necessarily help newbies who are asking for advice, and we're not sure if most of the regulars would be willing to log in anonymously to post?
What do you think?
I think the third one was made to identify the first years and it was easy to talk to them. It is not a compulsary thing, if you are a first year and want to interact with seniors it was easier this way. Again not compulsary to not wear printed shirts, you can do whatever the shit you want

All in all, it is a 'jugaad' sort of startup, to expect them to behave otherwise, would be foolish.
First - Completely agree with Featured Guest below on what Funds practice is and and what PE/VC practice is.
Second - to answer your specific question on what working hours and style is like. Fund formation is a more advisory driven / stable practice. Late nights are less common compared to PE/VC practice - since the work is: (a) more standardised in many ways, (b) not urgency driven most of the time, and (c) not negotiation / counter party driven since fund formation work is rarely (except in case of LP-GP negotiations) something that happens with a third party i.e. you do the work for the client, you get comments from the client, you update the client and the final work product is signed off by the client.
One minor exception to the above is where you have to make regulatory filings / submissions - like filing an application with SEBI. Again, that work is largely standardised and rarely heart racing - and SEBI takes its time with most things (and from what I hear is taking more and more time).
On the other hand, PE/VC is transactional work and work hours are always up in the air. It's a lot of negotiation, due diligence type of work which means you could be working all the time and forever.
Another thing to note is that fund practice is tax adjacent. Meaning, you need to have some understanding of tax laws since funds are setup to mitigate tax risks. Again, the learning on this is standardised for the most part, but there will be structuring work (i.e. how funds are set up, which entity in which jurisdictions etc.) that is also substantially tax driven so you will need to have a working knowledge of a lot of these things. If you don't love tax then this will become a problem quickly.
Last, my personal note as someone who worked in the funds practice and then became a transaction lawyer (M&A / PE-VC) is that funds practice is great for a stable life and if I had been smarter I would have tried to build my career in a Tier 1 practice (like KCO for example - Siddharth Shah is awesome). WIth that said, I was young and wanted to do "exciting" work and transitioned to PE/VC work which I was actually better at (thankfully). This work is more exciting and in my opinion more "satisfying" (to me) - but the life is way worse.
Ultimately you'll figure it out as you go long and but know this. There is way less competition to be an amazing funds lawyer (since it is supposedly less glamarous) then to be a PE/VC lawyer, and depending on what you want in life you'll make the choice that makes sense to you.
I am a final year LL.B. student at the Faculty of Law, University of Delhi. I have interned in law firms and offices of Advocate on Record in New Delhi in disputes/litigation team. I am looking forward to securing long-term internships in law firms and later pre-placement offers.
Please suggest to me a few firms which hire fresh law graduates and pay decent in disputes resolution team.
"As the dialogue continues on the issue, Dr. Bhasin is optimistic that there will be a proper resolution to the issue without anyone taking records to the courts of law."
Should we then expect for another 20 year delay because "someone" (wink wink) approaches the courts?

Big marketing scam. VC busy US trips.
Honestly, given the general deterioration of JGLS and gross mismanagement along with big ego of admin staff, I am not surprised.
JGLS is not what it used to be before.
