We want LI to be one of the friendliest places on the internet, where lawyers and law students help each other with their career related queries and occasionally discuss other stuff that might affect their lives too. In other words:
1. Be kind, respectful and helpful to each other.
2. Be bona fide, truthful, genuine and curious.
3. Assume the best intention of others.
Therefore, in using the site, you must agree to do your best to uphold these community guidelines.
Note that what you find here is written and moderated by anonymous people on the internet.
Therefore everything you read here is very likely unverified, rumour, speculation and/or downright false.
In continuing to read anything here, you must therefore agree not to take anything you read here as factual and that you will exercise due caution, diligence and common sense before acting on any information you may come across here.
You also agree to report any inaccurate or malicious comments with the buttons. Moderators take action within 24 hours, as required and appropriate under law.

Do you solemnly agree to all of the above?
Second C doesn't play any role except for maybe an occasional reservation jibe.
Third C is also important.
Fourth C is not important.
And people saying about killings and all the truth is any country do no give a fuck about human rights untill it somehow benefits them eg- Afganistan and many african countries.
I am sorry I am unable to give you any sort of advice . But if time permits and if you are willing to help someone then please kindly help me on my path to become what you are now. I am non-nlu graduate from a t-3 city and I have never lived outside here. I am looking for guidance. Please comment below your throwaway email if you are willing to take this forward.
1. MP Singh: He's the entire reason people like Sudhir, Shamnad, Prabhas etc became who they are. Apart from almost taking NUJS to the top spot (which is a very difficult institution to handle given the politics), he also nurtured a generation of talented academics by identifying and nurturing them from scratch. That is the sign of a visionary.
2. Madhava Menon: The man who conceptualised NLUs. Established NLS as the humanities and law school and established NUJS as the alternate school of thought for studying the law from a scientific perspective. The reason he is second on the list? He started things but could build them up. Both institutions were poorly funded from the beginning and that legacy haunts NLUs to this day. NLUs don't even get 10% the funding that IITs and NITs do.
3. Faizan Mustafa: Whatever NALSAR is today is a remnant of Mustafa's legacy. He has done more for NALSAR than Sudhir has for NLS so far. But importantly, he did it while taking most people along (students, faculty). Of course, nobody can please everyone.
4. Ranbir Singh: The man built a new national law university from scratch and turned it into the highest funded NLU and among the top 3 within the span of a decade. That is a phenomenal standard regardless of his slightly dictatorial personality.
5. Sudhir Krishnaswamy: He is probably next best benevolent dictator. Although so far his dictatorial decisions have made more news than any stellar progress at NLS. But progress is slow, so let's give him the benefit of doubt given his passion. He's moving in the right direction, by generating funds, poaching faculty, emphasizing on research. But come on, you don't need to be an asshole to be Steve Jobs! Also, you're running a college, not a 3 trillion dollar company.
The other three Cs were non negotiables as well, for this left liberal whackjob, and many of her manhating friends too.
But the obsession with skin colour, my god. Amuses me to this day.
Corporate lawyer or litigation?
The rates posted by you may have been offered to some long-standing Indian client. Indian clients tend to pay much less anyway.

It feels really great to hear that someone, somewhere out there feels the same way and did not give in to the pressure like the majority did. I was always told that you’ll end up as a failure and that you’re wasting a precious seat since your coming here is of no use whatsoever if you don’t indulge in any of the above mentioned stuff. It takes guts to be like you and your re-assurance is really appreciated.
I never wanted to be in a rat-race of any kind, or the sort of sigma male activities that are being followed mindlessly over here. I can’t even tell you the things publically that I’ve witnessed over here during my close to 2 year long journey. It’s definitely true that some people have their lives on easier mode that they grew up in this culture, got the same thing here and will continue to have it during their job life, as opposed to us who learnt everything the hard way. However, we cannot change that and that’s what life actually is so yeah Imma just wait and try to enjoy the remaining time here by pursuing the activities that you did or something that genuinely makes me fulfilled or content with my life.
Once again, thank you very much for this, bhaiya :))
PS: Douglas Murray hates immigrants & people of color so not sure how you bringing him up as a credible source makes you look like.
I honestly never liked the moots/adr thingy and would love to have decent no. of good publications only (not for the reason for landing a job but to have a feeling of accomplishment you know) and yeah looking forward to more such things that genuinely make me fulfilled rather than doing them out of FOMO.
Your reassurance really means a lot to me. Thank you very much.
Kahan se aaya? Kiska hai yeh?
Khaali-peeli kisi ke paas badhta hai
Koi yahan kadka hai, whoa-oh-oh
Ho jitna zyada, utni zyada
Zamana, saala, yeh izzat teri karta hai
Paisa hai toh…
(Paisa hai toh…)
Paisa hai toh badi-badi, badi-badi baatein
Paisa hai toh lambi-lambi, lambi-lambi raatein
Paisa hai toh five-star saari mulaqatein
Paisa hai toh gaaliyan bhi saare maang khaate
Paisa hai toh badi-badi, badi-badi baatein
Paisa hai toh lambi-lambi, lambi-lambi raatein
Paisa hai toh five-star saari mulaqatein
Paisa hai toh gaaliyan bhi saare maang khaate
Paisa hai toh…
Gaaliyan bhi saare maang khaate, paisa hai toh
Gaaliyan bhi saare maang khaate, paisa hai toh
Koi kehta money, koi kehta maaya
Kisne kamaya? Kisne gawaya?
Par jis pe chhaya iska saaya
Woh ginte-ginte na thakta
Na baap bada, na bhaiya
Neeyat badle dekh rupaiya
Ban ja do-chaar ka saiyyan
Jo dikhta hai, woh bikta
Jo tu dhani hai, logon ke badal jaate tevar
Khwaah-makhaah hi karne lagte favour
Itna saara cash, yaara, karoon kahan spend?
Karodon pe crore, hote nahi end
Sabne kaha hai, main bhi kahun
Tu maane ya na maane, teri marzi hai (bas paisa sach hai)
Baakisab yahan farzi hai, whoa-oh
Paisa hai toh…
(Paisa hai toh…)
Paisa hai toh badi-badi, badi-badi baatein
Paisa hai toh lambi-lambi, lambi-lambi raatein
Paisa hai toh five-star saari mulaqatein
Paisa hai toh gaaliyan bhi saare maang khaate
Paisa hai toh badi-badi, badi-badi baatein
Paisa hai toh lambi-lambi, lambi-lambi raatein
Paisa hai toh five-star saari mulaqatein
Paisa hai toh gaaliyan bhi saare maang khaate
Paisa hai toh…
Gaaliyan bhi saare maang khaate, paisa hai toh
I would get out and live my life if I had that opportunity.

Besides, Maharashtra has set an example for other states to follow suit in the same way. As I have always said - the best of state NLUs are behind them.
Next, understand the upstream-downstream stuff and tons of actual cases.
After that, try and find some research gap that you can fill - talk to your comp law prof at this 'top NLU' and try to narrow down something - this can tie into you being a part of some research center for the same. Make this paper as foolproof as possible and as fast as possible because you do not have time.
Next thing would be to apply to NDA with this + an article on a smaller research gap. Ping a few partners across firms on LinkedIn - cold emails are almost always ignored.
Do internships, internships, internships - moot courts mean jack shit for the CV or for actual learning - they are not even relevant for actual litigation. While this is true, still claim in your CV you worked on a certain competition law issue in a moot and how you won it. If you have to do hybrid internships, do hybrid, else do running internships. Online internships are horrible.
And in any case, keep repeating the steps. Do not forget T2s and Boutique firms - firms like BTG Advaya teach you a lot, even if they don't pay you an eye watering amount plus the work culture is amazing.
If these firms do not click in this year, join a litigation chamber of a senior advocate who does competition law cases - do it for 2 years then transfer wherever you want. Unfortunately, do not expect more than a pittance.
This is the situation here and I can’t even imagine what it’d be like at Jindal, Symbi or any other pvt. uni such as Ashoka. It’s honestly quite sad that I won’t be able to pursue my corporate career in a lavish t1 law firm if the culture is same over there so Imma just do a low paying in-house job or even a government psu job for that matter. I badly need mental peace rather than whatever these guys are aiming for at this point.
I saw some posts and comments asking about Ozempic to manage weight due to the hectic nature of law firm jobs. Not saying you shouldn't take it but be very cautious with this shit AND DO NOT SELF MEDICATE. It's not like the same firm will grant you more leaves to take care of a paralyzed stomach.
Best is to still eat healthy and manage calories, without getting into fad diets. Increase protein
This page has everything including the best memo, speaker list etc
No doubt the profession is cruel.

As a senior who came from a village into a well known private university, I share your sentiments. I didn’t indulge in hookups, alcohol, cigarettes, non-vegetarian food or smoking up and wasn’t constantly chasing accomplishments in college. But I also did not look down on any of the above. I enjoyed hanging out with people so I participated in organising committees. I looked for people who could enjoy sober lunches and dinner and good food in city restaurants - and asked generally in class if people want to join. I hung out with smokers and had chai while they smoked. I hung out with alcohol enthusiasts and had virgin mocktails and offered cocktail making skills. I had a gala time with a category of intellectuals while they smoked up. You don’t have to hookup if you don’t want it - and you may look for a stable relationship. I accepted people are different and come from different walks of life and emptied my notion of life to learn more about them and there lifestyles. Humans - especially lawyers are lonely creatures. Most are always happy to talks about themselves, provided you don’t make them feel like you are judging them.
Again - you do you. Tier 1 or local government colleges, all have the same environments - you just have a base of accompalished alumni’s to reach out, competitive and ambitious circle of batchmates and promise of decent orgs showing up on campus. If you want to sleep for 7 hours do that. If you do not want to dedicate all your time to different competitions - don’t. If you do not want to pursue a corporate job - don’t. If you want to just focus on academics and relax - do that. Your activities will impact only you and not anyone else.
Only one thing you need to understand and imbibe. Make efforts in anything you finally decide to pursue and strive for excellence in that. You are in India (law school is irrelevant), and you will do fine if you decide to not put in effort or put in effort. But efforts will set you apart - in personal and professional life.
I had a fun college life - no moots, debates, ADR or papers only events and academics. I am doing as well as anyone in my year from best universities. A lot of factors matter in life - once you identify a problem, look for a solution.
Thank you very much in advance!!!

Office aa ke muft ki chai aur 1000 sutta breaks are better as per you as compared to a relatively chill life? Transactions me aisa kaunsa cheez hai jske liye physically ghar se baahar jana hai?
I understand meeting and applying maska to clients, uske alawa what does it even achieve?
Unfcomfortable formals, long commutes. Fucking rent in a T1 city, sara salary to isi me chalre jata hai.
Aaplog partner type aate raho office, humein baksh do na.
So I'm an Associate at a law firm dealing with Gen Corp. All the basics. Gen Corp is great in terms of stability and learning. However, I can't help the feeling that I could be utilizing my legal knowledge for other purposes such as social betterment/probono work (could be profit or non-profit).
I was trying to brainstorm and wanted to know if any of you have suggestions or experiences where you've done other side hustles/hobbies/projects on the other side alongside your work. It should be like a 2-4 hour commitment a day and something fruitful/fulfilling.
Open to ideas :) thanks

I'm a law aspirant. I gave Clat'24 and got AIR 793.
I've trouble figuring out which tier 2 NLU to join or do a 5-year llb from DU as I'm based in Delhi.
I was hoping someone here could help me out with it.

No sarcastic comments please.
You also need to read historical books written by Israeli new historians dealing with what actually happened to the Palestinians back then like Ilan Pappé, Avi Shlaim & Benny Morris etc but hey bringing up arguments from WhatsApp Israeli Uni is so much better na
Answers from alumni would be preferred than hearsay.
