i'm a penultimate year law student, currently doing my research in order to submit my applications for LLM programs at different universities around the world (i am also preparing for CLAT-PG as a back up).
recently, someone mentioned how law firms end up funding your LLMs and i should focus on getting a job first, and get my own LLM entirely funded. i have my fair share of internships, however i don't have a PPO and now i'm considering interning long term or applying to law firms straight out of law school. i was wondering if i could hear out everyone's experiences and get some insight into this possibility. please do tell me what your experience was like. thank you !!!

India is unsafe even for nobodies like us, let alone a person holding one of the most important constitutional posts.
While we are at it, how do judges of the SCOTUS roll? On bikes?
I do not condone whatever the said lawyer tweeted, however at the same time, that is quite fixable with an apology. Now her entire career is f*cked given how in every BG check this is going to come up.
I hope โฎโฎโฎ doesnt fire that lady.
When I was preparing for CLAT, I knew that this was just a stepping stone and not the whole platform itself. I only treated CLAT as an entry pass to a law school, and I knew once I reached a college, I would have to work my way upwards. However, this isn't the case with everyone, and most people keep daydreaming during their preparation days.
This isn't your which X NLU is the best debate. I want to know from my fellow people from NLSIU, NALSAR, NUJS, NLUD, NLIU, NLUJ, and GNLU what their perspective was of a law school while preparing for CLAT and how it changed and what reality struck them after making it to the X NLU. How are you doing now at your college and what are your future endeavours?
Several team members come from that background
All the NLS alum who created a ruckus to get Sudhir back now regret it
STOP BEING SUCH AN INGRATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
he's the CJI, he doesnt draw a large salary for the amount of work he puts in, a mercedes is the least he can be provided with, its about comfort and standard of living. not everything has to be looked at with the eye of jealousy, there needs to be some honour and luxury attached to the highest judicial office in the country.
Thank you in advance.
Earlier only girls faced the brunt, but now even fair-skinned guys are valued as trophies and dark-skinned guys looked down upon, as one of the comments here says. Maybe it's because of Bollywood. SRK lightens his skin and light-skinned Punjabi actors are promoted.
Since the release of the CLAT first list, I have been reading up on NLSIU on this forum, and I cannot help but feel scared. I have been reading posts ( like https://www.legallyindia.com/convos/topic/309689-why-hasnt-nlsiu-released-their-placement-stats-for-over-half-a-decade-now%20 , https://www.legallyindia.com/convos/topic/272682-why-was-nlsiu-day-zero-a-flop-show-or-was-it%20, https://www.legallyindia.com/convos/topic/282300-nlsiu-a-jindal-in-the-making%20 etc ) , and I'm feeling extremely nervous.
Will joining NLSIU be a good choice for me, or am I gambling away my future? The problem for me is that I did poorly on AILET, so NLUD is not an option. I did quite well on the LSAT and have received a 50% scholarship for Jindal, but my parents are totally discounting JGLS and won't let me join it.
I think the moot question is whether joining NLSIU is a good option?
That said, I hope you are never yelled at.
But what about ISB??? In terms of age, ISB is much younger than NLSIU and about the same age as some other NLUs. But can an ISB brand be considered more prestigious than an NLU brand -- even NLSIU?? Does an ISB degree lead to better job prospects and pay? Or is it worth it only if you are from lower ranked NLUs, i.e. NALSAR/NUJS/NLUD/GNLU and below, like NLUJ, NLIU, RGNUL, HNLU, Shimla, Patna etc? Or is NALSAR considered more prestigious than ISB now?
Honestly, the NLSIU alumni list looks so much more impressive than the ISB alumni list. NLSIU has produced a QC, ASG, judges, Senior Advocates, partners at US an UK firms, IFS/IAS/IPS officers, professors at Oxford and Ivy League law schools etc. In comparison, the only famous ISB alum seems to be Aman Gupta of Boat. Rest are just random corporate executives at various companies. Even Aman Gupta seems a bit of a douchebag tbh. Always saying dumb things on Shark Tank and in one pitch for a book company he said he doesn't read books. .. imagine! ๐
Why three NLUs in the state? After Mumbai, there was no need of nagpur and Aurangabad.
Even Mumbai has no campus till date when several batches graduated from temp campus
For girls and people interested in humanities: Barbie.
Hopefully they will understand that support for Palestine doesnโt automatically mean support for Hamas, hate for Jews and denial of the Holocaust? That many students and intellectuals on the left support Palestine for secular and feminist reasons, in order to further the cause of the fight against colonialism, social injustice and patriarchy?
Avoid most of CAM, JSA and Trilegal, and if you don't mind switching to broader finance teams who also do some gen corp work, then also consider Veritas Legal & Anagram Partners.
The best option imo would be to join a bank, of you can handle the paycut. The benefits & WLB by far overweigh any loss of T1 tag there! All the best!
Moreover, the OP is in a slightly lesser valued law school. I would suggest that they really try to ace their CAT and hope that it can cover for a rather ordinary performance in their undergrad degree.
remember anyone with 5 cr of wealth (much less annual income) is already in 0.1% of the Indian population
Most 50 year old lawyers struggle to earn 12-20 lakhs per year
maths require such a lawyer to have a 12-15 crore book to start with (your personal earning cannot be more than one third of your teams billing)
Extremely rare
Do not write such stuff to set up unrealistic expectations in young lawyers
Assessment - Not given
PPO - If lucky, chance very less and depends on vacancies
Pay - 50k
How was Trilegal able to stand up to traditional firms and expand this much?
Is this expansion sustainable?
Also if Trilegal is so much meritocratic
Why is SAM CAM AZB (all family firms) still doing well?
If it's true, the team had half the time other teams did for memorial submissions + they hadn't mooted together before (and didn't choose each other apparently since no open challengers), both play a pretty significant role in Jessup and afaik not having an open challenger especially for Jessup is an anomaly.
Based on the round against them, friend said it seemed like a bit of a shocker the team didn't make it but same can be said for GNLU who seemed like favourites to go to the world rounds (experienced team all around and a member who'd reached Jessup world rounds in 2022)
Hopefully the team's can bounce back - Jessup is a fickle mistress if nothing else.
You'll need to show Below Poverty Line Certificate, Relevant Reservation Certificate, You can not get an ATKT. You might need to show a recommendation from mantralaya too. Most kids there use fake certificates to get admission tho.
Besides with their insane attrition levels, even those ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ won't count for muchโฆ.
Cut to the question(s)
1. How does the whole contract management scene work?
2. What are the entry points as also barriers to the same?
3. Is my litigation experience likely to help?
4. What are the basics I need to know for an in-house interview?
Please note, I have a litigation work experience throughout. If I am missing out on any points, or if I am incorrectly clubbing contract management openings and in-house vacancies , please correct me and guide me.
Just for clearing any doubts whatsoever, I am definitely not even looking into T1s and the like.
I already want to do judicary in future so should I go for it ?
Assuming this is accurate, an associate who bills 7250 (considering the lowest for A0) an hour and works for approximately 260 hours a month (being very conservative here, most A0s are made to work for longer periods, I have just considered around 10 hours a day and 6 days a week) makes the firm 18 lakhs and 85 thousand every month. Out of which the A0 is given at the most 1.5 lakhs per month (again being conservative, many A0s are paid less), which makes for approximately 7.9% of what they bill.
Even considering all firm expenses and overheads and partner profits, if a person is not being given even 10% of what they are earning for the firm, then why on earth would they have dedication, loyalty, motivation to work hard and all those buzzwords that the legal community, especially the older generation, seems to throw around casually for the younger ones to follow? Isn't that one of the bigger issues to focus on? If other firms (and Trilegal too if the counters on this thread are to be believed) are arguably billing at a higher rate and paying the associate even less (Trilegal being the top paying firm at this moment), they can expect even less effort from the associates, since they are only throwing scraps at those people and the latter are fully aware of that.
I do not intend to marry either, for it invites even worse liabilities and risks. These are simply not prudent decisions in our current socio-legal set-up.
However, should I choose to move offshore to a country with a sensible legal system
FYI, I didnโt work with every firm so I might be wrong - maybe there are better folks out there.
So can anyone comment what exactly is their forte ?
How's the work and how's the team ?
- Cigarette
- Willingness to hustle, grind and work hard
- Vitriol
- Patience
- Tact and oratory skills speaking right word to the extent needed
Can somebody please remind her of the interview when CM MB walked out? The students and audience showed spine, she didn't.
