Depends on the topic that you choose for your thesis. If it's corporate law-related, then I would advice against it, since they don't have good faculty for that at present, with the head having joined NLU Meghalaya as VC recently. Criminal law, international law, IP, yes. There's not a long delay in general, around 3 months from submission. Depends on the external evaluator. Unlike NLS, the current head does not believe in playing with the career and lives of students/scholars.
How are the international law faculty? I wish to pursue my PhD specifically in International Armed Conflict, should I apply ? When does the admission process begin ? March ?
The interview will involve a detailed presentation of your proposal, with multiple faculty forming a panel to evaluate it. If you prep for it, then it is not very difficult. Expect research methodology questions in the written exam.
Obviously. You don't compare a national university with state universities. INIs (IIT) are more PG research-oriented, while state universities (NLUs) are UG teaching-focused. For a PhD, the research culture is important (no one "holds" a PhD completion). As a PhD aspirant, you must know.
OK, so let's compare the favorites NLSIU, NALSAR, and IIT KGP School of Law:
Teaching and Learning Resources: 79.09, 81.23, 56.0 Research and Professional Practice: 71.85, 36.11, 80.11 Graduation Outcomes: 82.99, 79.93, 72.12 Outreach and Inclusivity: 73.58, 74.67, 57.92 Perception: 100, 84.07, 39.64
Source: NIRF 2023. IIT KGP (School of Law) already outranks NLS on research by a significant margin. Doing a Ph.D. in NALSAR is a suicide, as its research is a joke.
I see you have got no counter to the response itself. Nor do you read apparently, otherwise there are multiple articles and fact-finding papers that have already highlighted NIRF flaws.
Of course, when data goes against your flawed and jaundiced opinions question the methodology. That's a very old trick used by many when drawn into a corner.
It is clear that you don't know the first thing about scientific research. The onus is on the researcher to present and explain a methodology that will withstand scrutiny, otherwise data or conclusions drawn from that exercise is not credible, no matter whose favour or against it goes.
You cannot have it both ways. Either accept all NIRF data which shows that out of the top 20 law schools in the country, only 4 are run by the central government (5, 9, 14 and 17 rank holders, with IIT KGP's law school behind Jamia even among the central ones), which means that until there are at least 6 central universities out of the top 10, you should not keep saying that those are better places to study and pursue law from. Or else accept that NIRF data is faulty, in which case do not cherry pick parameter-wise data to support your argument.

You asked for it. You have it. Happy.
