I'm an A3. Recently switched from a T1 to another one. Worked my ass off across the board at both places. 9AM to 2AM on an average. Sometimes more.

I used to be a smart guy at college because I truly loved the law. I was interesting, I had a personality. I was excited about getting to work. Got 3 PPO offers along the way.

But slowly, all that has chipped away. I'm working on matters that sound truly incredible and I'm somehow still struggling to find the basic motivation. Fear and drive don't motivate me anymore because somewhere deep down, I know I want to quit really soon.

My practice area is so niche that less than 10 firms do it properly in India. I've been to one, rejected another, and am currently in one. The rest either don't have vacancies or are proceeded by terrible reputations. Plus, going to a T2 doesn't make much sense because it will likely just be as much work but with smaller names, more drudgery and even lesser money.

So what exactly do I do? Is anyone/has anyone been in the same boat? Is it wise to shift to in-house at my level? I have a feeling that the motivation will come back if I take a few months' break (or at least join a 9 to 5). Any options / help / advice is deeply appreciated.

At the outset I should clarify that I do not intend to use the LLM to transition as a lawyer into that country (Think UK and SQE exams), my research shows that path has gone dead for a very long time. Thankfully I find myself far more interested in policy and legal research (not exactly academia).

My current interest is in Data privacy, AI and governance (and adjacent research areas) therefore I'm thinking of pursuing an LLM from Europe, as a fourth year law student the earliest run rate to executing my plan is 5 years and I will need this much time to get my language skills up to wherever I go (currently thinking Brussels), as is I am aware that competition between Non EU and EU grads is a whole minefield so wherever I can give myself an advantage I will take it.

I can completely fund this pursuit abroad without incurring any debt of any kind for the whole duration (tuition +living expense) therefore I'm not extensively deterred from this plan based on financial feasibility.

Nonetheless, I am aware of the bloodbath that the european market is right now, I suppose I still want to do this because I find life here abysmal by any meaningful metric (short of the fact that I have my parents here). If I have to come back I will paid more for my foreign qualification so there is some win there.

I suppose I am looking for others who may be pursuing something similar their thoughts ?, others who may know better than me regarding my plans ? or in a general sense any guidance you would give to someone who came up to you with this plan.

Exactly, there is a general slowdown across teams. Have insider buddies at all teams and everyone is in the same boat. Main corp teams suffering, so all the work which stems from these projects like comp law matters are also lesser off-late. There's always a graph where things go up and down. I am a 4th year ( started) law student from tier 3 NLU with CGPA of 8.95 , I have only completed 4 internship in total all being basic and not very good ( like one was tis hazari , one under some normal lawyer in Delhi HC , one under raj HC judge and now in a tier 2 firm) .

My long-term goal is to build a career in Delhi litigation. Being completely realistic about my profile and the current state of litigation hiring in Delhi, what should I be doing over the next two years to maximize my chances of securing a position at a good litigation office/chamber before graduating.

Should I focus on specific kinds of internships, drafting experience, networking, publication work, or long-term chamber associations? At what stage do litigation offices in Delhi actually begin considering students for post-graduation roles?

I recently joined an NBFC as a Risk & Compliance Associate (CTC around ₹7–8 LPA). The pay, perks, and work culture are good, but there's very little work, and whatever I do isn't really law-related. 1. Sometimes the tough requirements are the nature of the practice area. if so, you could request to move to a less stressful practice area (say from M&A to corproate advisory / labour employment / IP); it is very hard to set boundaries when everyone is working really hard;

2. sometimes the tough requirements are because the team / partner is an arse. If everyone is not working as hard and you are being unfairly singled out - find another team or another law firm; every team in every t1 is nto as bad as people say.

3. sometimes the tough treatment is because you are unable to cope; if so, maybe think of alternative career options?

be very objective with yourself. not every one has to be the country's leading M&A lawyer and you may enjoy being a different kind of lawyer or may enjoy doing something else. your legal education should have given you skills you can use in hundreds of jobs.

Are the courts you visit completely silent? Law as a practice and profession is built on chatter, mindless or necessary, but still chatter. There can be no office that works completely in silence except in cases when you have a bad boss, of whom everyone is so terrified that no one speaks. And when the chamber does hear noise, it's that of the boss, shouting/abusing his associates.

I understand that you want silence, but the kind you require, you will not find it anywhere. My advice? Chin up, face it, and learn how to drown out the noise.

So I have taken admission in RRU GANDHINAGAR BBA LLB HONS. program and left mnlu aurangabad bba llb program because I want to build my career around finance related law and RRU has better faculties for finance alongwith proximity to gift city.

I know I would be criticised for my decision but I don't want to add much financial burden on my parents also RRU had everything I need except corporate culture

So I need help from seniors to tell me what to do/what not to do in next 5 years of law school as there are less law related competitions in RRU in order to make a successful career in law

1. Your partner has a budget and will need to do whatever he can in that budget.

2. If someone else agrees to do more - your partner would prefer to replace you for such person - nothing personal but reason being point 1 above.

3. You may discuss with your partner and convince him/ her. You need to ready to accept a reduced package because that allows you to relax a bit but not burn the partners budget. Accept it and don't crib about it.

4. Only time I've seen exceptions - when you're absolutely exceptional in your work where your partner doesn't want to lose you because you're that damn good. This may be the case in your mind but talk to ppl around and pick up traits everywhere - this is not just legal but also client management, communication, etc.

so apply outside? or cultivate an indian professor by attending their public lectures and sending emails that show you listening carefully. if they respond warmly, ask for a quick meeting to discuss the PhD and gauge their interest. Don't be pushy. Just respectful and admiring.

Hello, I have just joined as an AO in one of the Tier 1 firms. I have severe and serious mental health issues. I cannot quit because of financial condition. I am really distressed. Can seniors please help me? My work quality is good and my partner has assured me that the work is not an issue since thatswhy they hired me in the first place when I interned. I understand Internships and working at firm is really different. I really need help with some of the helpful teams that senior could share so that I can sustain this. While no one can ever understand what you are feeling maybe my experience may be helpful. I went through similar motions and quit law but came back after a gap of nearly 4 years.

What helped when I quit was therapy, lot of introspection, lot of time alone, and then coming to a realization that it is merely a job. I understood it when I left the profession and started working as a management trainee in a company.

So, if you want to quit law and do something else, do that. Similar feeling may or may not come again in the new profession. If it does, just remember it is a just a job. Nothing more. If you can figure out how to enjoy the job, do that. If you cannot, do not succumb to the negativity or escape from it. Tell yourself its a job and do what you can and not more.

If this does not help, ignore this and just know that even a stranger believes in you and that you will pull through.
