Now, hereโs a thought worth ponderingโnext time a self-proclaimed feminist demands you drop the โnot all menโ defense, consider how their toxic male counterparts love to generalize women with a slew of derogatory adjectives. In the end, these two groups are cut from the same cloth, each perpetuating the very divisions they claim to oppose. Itโs a maddening cycle, isnโt it?
Mamata: Hold my beer.
Will they uninvite Mamata Banerjee for her statements on the rape?
Donโt blame men here but a woman: a cruel and insensitive CM who has politicised this rape and is trying to hush things up.
intisar aslam from nuals
kashish juman, ayush mhatre from nlu delhi
Peeps, please help me here
Another point to note: the educated middle-class in Bengal has always been against Mamata, and she is opposed by the Left, the BJP and the state Congress. She has always been winning on the strength of the rural vote and slum vote (through various doles) and the Muslim vote. But now the feeling is that these votebanks may gradually abandon her.
A group of students who were involved with IDIA had intervened in the HC to help slum dwellers of Subhas Sarovar to receive rehabilitation before dodgy eviction being engineered by the local councillor. In violation of HC order, the councillor organised the eviction anyway and NUJS students intervened. They were badly groped and beaten up. PIB, SAK and none in the faculty and non-teaching staff did anything to pursue police action against the perps. Instead SAK issued a written statement distancing the univ from the humanitarian intervention by students. So much for legal aid and social justice education!
Google or even go through LI archives. You will find it it all.
An interesting question is, can't India export its legal services/products to the world and contribute tangibly to the economy. I agree, legal services are not similar to those in STEM professions. But it can at least move in that direction. Transformation to this avatar is the need of the hour!
Only compliance remains but it's a fish market place where even account writing shops compete. Then comes CAs. An ambitious lawyer should not waste his energy in this.
Dedication, perseverance & all is fine for rodomontade (sorry Tharoor) but it doesn't bring money.
Everything else is ma$turbation..
What even are we celebrating?
IMO a great career waits people who graduate in STEM subjects, work in IT for a bit, then do a law degree.
Downvoting without reasons means you are defending the indefensible.
"We are in total solidarity with the outpouring of real grief and fear on the streets . But it is necessary to separate facts from false propaganda."
"In case anyone feels they have been blocked unfairly - sorry- please drop a tweet to @NilanjanDasAITC & will forward to team to fix."

Fresher to General Counsel hiring, pay progression and growth.
- The report was entirely about the safety of women in "India". "Kolkata" was mentioned just once in 5 minutes. "West Bengal" was not mentioned even once.
- "Modi" and "Prime Minister" were mentioned a few times. "Mamata" and "Chief Minister" were not mentioned even once.
- The whole report was about how the central government is failing to protect women doctors by not passing a special law. No mention about the state government. No mention also about the fact that there already laws to prevent such acts (IPC) and the problem lies with enforcement by the police, which is a state subject under the Constitution.
- The insensitive remarks by the Kolkata Police Commissioner and the Cal HC judgement slamming the incompetence of the police were not mentioned even once.
- "RG Kar" was not mentioned even once. "Sandip Ghosh", the principal accused of covering up the crime and removed by the Cal HC, was not mentioned even once.
- The vandalism at RG Kar, allegedly to destroy the evidence, was not mentioned even once.
I have just objectively stated what the BBC, the doyen of liberal media worldwide, has reported. Now you can draw your own conclusions.
Very transparent with all 3 that I was working with, wrt who all I have applied with and what recruiters etc.
All 3, after getting me interviews, started ghosting me. All three of them. I had told them that I can take the rejection, please let me know if things do not work out, so that I can plan accordingly, but no. Straight up ghosting.
I expect it out of Company/Firm HRs, but recruiters also? What a nightmare. Wasted close to a month with these guys.
Also to add
People who know about their respective HCs, please also drop your HC-specific lists
This is not - boyfriend and girlfriend had sex and there was an awkward moment of miscommunication. Ten people donโt get together and rape a woman if they arenโt all sharing in the vilest misogyny imaginable. And no one is covering it up if they care about women at all. And no one should be celebrating that if rape culture isnโt real- but here it is.
Also, over time, each University has faced some issue or the other. None has emerged unscathed. So students should be aware of this and set their expectations accordingly.
You need to get the message that other people have rights too. And people canโt change sex.
Stipend is for people who stay for min. 4 months as a long term intern. Then you get 20k and a device. Otherwise it's just free labour
1. US Ivy Leagues or comparable (Stanford, MIT, Caltech, UCB, Duke etc)
2. Next tier top US colleges (eg UCLA, Northwestern, USC, Purdue, Carnegie Mellon etc) OR top US liberal arts colleges (Amherst etc) OR top Russell Group UK universities (Oxbridge, LSE, KCL, UCL, Warwick, Edinburgh etc, but not maybe Nottingham or York or Newcastle)
3. Other good US/UK universities not in the tiers above (eg Fordham, Rutgers, SOAS, Nottingham, York) OR G8 Australian universities OR premier universities elsewhere (Singapore, Europe, Canada)
4. Other universities abroad not mentioned above, and some niche places (eg University of the Arts London or Raffles School of Design in Singapore)
5. Stay in India: Ashoka or law at Jindal. For the smarter ones, engineering at BITS or Manipal, or medicine at a good private university like Manipal or Sri Ramchandra.
6. More options in India: KREA, Flame, non-law at Jindal, any course at Symbiosis, maybe a tier 2 private medical or engineering college. Amity or Bennett as a last resort
Re top Indian government universities like IIT or NLUs or AIIMS, itโs rare for IB kids to even try โ- they get scared by the high levels of competition and the low number of merit list seats (IB students are usually in the general, non-reserved category). But there have been cases of a few students cracking top NLUs and even IITs. These would definitely be a top 3 career choice for them, but maybe not the top choice. I know of cases where kids have turned down IITs for MIT and one old case where someone turned down NLSIU for a non-law course at NUS Singapore. Plus a very old case where someone chose KCL law with full fees over NLSIU (child of a senior lawyer, who subsequently qualified as a barrister and returned to India).
After capital markets, employment, disputes and real estate teams departing, nothing but TMT is left. Avoid.
My answer: Because thatโs easier to do than attack Mamata Banerjee and the TMC, or call out the hypocrisy of her celebrity, cocktail party circuit MPs like Mahua Moitra and Sagarika Ghose.
Not to mention the medical report stated it was a gang rape and only one guy has been caught. Also vandalism by state goons. Well documented.
We women have been facing probably less heinous sexual offences on a daily basis in India. Catcalling, harassment, touching, even in our so called NLUs. The thing to take away is the general disrespect of women's boundaries, which is definitely a global thing, but noticeably lesser in other countries like the US and UK. Having been there, there is a little more respect and less sexual offences. Also victim blaming by authorities and refusal to register cases is also way lesser (corruption). There are CCTV and way other protections there, missing in India. Imagine a hospital ward not having a CCTV lol.
One of the most commonly-understood cultural things about the world's finest universities, like Oxford, is that even people who would have been the cream of the cream elsewhere struggle, and find it hard from time-to-time to keep their heads above water. NLSIU doesn't have the imposing spires or any of the other elements of Oxford's grand architecture, which, combined with hard work, can really sometimes be scary for lots of students and make them question themselves, but you have the same essentials that Oxford does (including Oxford-educated faculty). Embrace this feeling, put your head down and kick out even harder to make sure you are staying afloat; when you do come up outside, you will know you did something significant, and so will the rest of the world.
Regarding a point that was made about academic standards being lower before and yet people winning the Rhodes, it's not as black-and-white as some people think. One of the 2018 Rhodes scholars, Rahul Bajaj, who is blind, chose to study in his hometown of Nagpur, rather than going to an NLU, at a uni with some of the shittiest academic standards. As he himself says, while his accomplishments even in that shitty environment were significant on an absolute basis but also relatively, compared to other students in better environments, he found it easier to crack one of the key elements of a Rhodes application - top grades - because of what passed for academic standards at his uni. He has expressly said that if he'd gone to a better uni, the competition he would have had to face internally for Rhodes would have been much stiffer. You are getting the opportunity that really smart people like him (he won awards for his work in Oxford during the BCL and passed his MPhil Thesis with Distinction and No Corrections) would sacrifice arms and legs for. Instead of constantly complaining, make the most of that. You were given the opportunity because you were the cream of the cream elsewhere. This is your chance to show us that you are the cream of the cream among cream of creams from lots of places.
Best of luck; I look forward to hearing of your (i) achieving the Rhodes/some other equally significant scholarship/LLM admission with internal-to-specific-uni scholarship, in a few years' time; and (ii) after you have absolutely drouned yourself in significant work in commercial law in the next twenty years or so (minimum twelve hours a day of work + almost no weekends off), coming out with an equity partnership at Kirkland under your belt and a salary we dare not mention (at which time you will thank Sudhir on bended knee for what he put you through as a kid).
That said, if you're at that stage of life where you feel that this is the best foot forward for your career by a long margin, then of course those compromises may just be worth it.
My heart bleeds for victim but claims of systemic cover-up wrongโ

In any case, the evidence has almost certainly been destroyed. Canโt see a conviction happening.
But the big problem is that an MNLU has already been set up. It was stupid of Maharashtra not to designate GLC as MNLU โ excellent alumni and location. Maybe the two can be merged?
