IMO none of these reasons are worth it. Re girls, just look beyond your campus. In fact, girls studying non-law courses are more interesting and you can go outside your ivory tower. Re politics, it’s a frickin farce. Whether BJP or Congress or Left, none of our politicians care about the country. Don’t take politics so seriously. Re sports, it’s the dumbest reason of all. There is always victory and defeat in sport. Also, please play civilised sports like tennis, squash or even cricket, instead of football (universal sport for chapris and racist hooligans).
assignment, every instance of lying to get by while not doing the work. What’s good for the geese must be good for the gander right ?
They might be reluctant to change how they teach cause they’ve been around different educational institutions for years and have different insights into what works and what doesn’t work. And they might see through the nonsensical asks by students that would lower academic standards and turn the university into a paper mill that grant degrees
At least Umar Khalid had the courage of his convictions to go to jail. There’s a person to admire at least for his honesty. Whatever these rich kids in fancy unis are - they aren’t that.
Queerphobic means as little to me as saying I’m Christian phobic because I won’t declare Christ is king.
Your preferred pronouns are your preferences. Not mine or anyone else’s. Other people get to speak what they want especially when it’s the truth.
What violence does misgendering lead to ? Words have to mean something! If “she/her” is too traumatising to you go to therapy and figure out why you think a woman is a horrible thing to be.
These were not peaceful protestors. They harassed Jewish students and faculty and refused to let them enter classrooms and parts of the university. They broke open and took over a university building and held a couple of janitors hostage until their demands were met. You don’t know what you’re talking about.
I saw that the discussion on NLS PhD was scattered over here. I thought I'll make a new thread specifically for it.
Pros:
1. Best supervisors (on paper ) : Sudhir has hired many good people, so you'll have good supervisors.
2. Quality: The final product that you'll have will be pretty good because of the rigor of the course.
3. Insights into working of NLS: You attend classes and you do some TAing or RAing. So you get a preliminary idea of how things work at NLS.
Cons:
1. Ever changing system: The rules and the system keeps on changing. Which rule will apply to you is mired in ambiguity.
2. Non responsive admin: There have been reports where people have mailed the university and heard back after an year or haven't heard back. Things are getting better on that front.
3. Extreme rigour of coursework: The coursework is extremely rigorous. A trimester of research methodology course, plus 2 other courses- core or elective, are essential to take. In addition, there's a requirement to become TA/RA or offer your own course.
I feel a lot of this could be done away with. There isn't a point of an year long coursework other than adding the stress. A person selected already has a good idea of the basics. Specific seminars on note taking, using research tools and statistics would be far more useful. Personal opinion.
4. Overworked supervisors: This creates a problem again. Everyone in NLS is overworked. It's just one subject to teach, but the rigour expected in the course is of a good level. And you've to finish it within 2.5 months. Plus, a lot of elements in a course now, like moots etc. make it even more rigorous. So, it will be a lot of time before your supervisor gets back to you.
I'm not getting into more controversial aspects of the PhD, because I feel that is an exception.
But even then, I find nothing wrong in students getting to rank teachers on various aspects. It's mostly the uptight, "I won't change how I teach, traditions matter" types who have never stepped into a courtroom but have some very strange visions flowing from Legally Blonde in how they need to conduct their classes.
In any case absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. It does not seem that NYT has really investigated what led to her visa being revoked. If she failed to disclose arrests- that is breaking the law. “I just sort of put no” is not a good excuse - how is a Fulbright scholar this unserious?
And all this drama about self deporting as if men from federal government were breaking down her door to assault her is nonsense. The record of what the ICE officer said seems like he was almost bored and exasperated - like a parent tired of their kid locking themselves in their room. Be a damn adult and learn how to handle a situation without devolving into histrionics.
There were women your age at the nova festival who were much more scared when men with guns came around and took them. There are women today in Gaza who are actually at risk of being harmed not just by the IDF but also by Hamas. You had a seemingly nice officer knock on your door offer you advice about not antagonising law enforcement and assure you that they will follow the legal process.
In any case I seriously doubt it’s just failing to disclose meaningless arrests. I find Ms Srinivasan an incredibly insincere and unreliable narrator and there might be more in her file that she hasn’t disclosed. It seems to be a pattern with these pro-Hamas folks that their stories just don’t add up. They seek to minimise their own actions when moments before they were soaking up the glory of being rebels. You cannot take Hamilton hall by force and then demand the university bring you food. Get a grip.
I would honestly respect her more if she stuck to her guns and said - I said what I said and did what I did and I think it was right.
I want to join in-house dept in some company in Bengaluru / Hyderabad in 4 - 5 years.
How should I go about this?
As someone with experience of both UK and American law school environments, in addition to an Indian one, I have made this one observation: British law students are generally like their Indian counterparts, committed to law from a young age. Their American counterparts, though, obviously do a JD after at least an undergraduate degree. But they are more driven, mature and focussed on success and have very specific ideas of what success looks like. Many UK law students are also like that, but a surprising number are (or become) unsure of their career options while studying law.
Now assuming that the OP's accusation is true, why are Indian 3Y LLB folks less committed to their studies and career than their American counterparts?

Do you think you will be able to compete the with the marketing budgets of top tier firms? Despite the BCI regs most of them already have a Marketing Team (they are blatant about it) and spend tons.
Eg: If Nepali professors and students in India had written more about Bhutan's treatment of Nepali citizens, we'd know more about them.
1. Losing in sports
2. Fighting over a hot girl (who is often not interested in either guy and seeing some rich nepo kid 5th dude, who she will eventually marry)
P.S. Please shed a tear for the Hindus of Bangladesh and Yazidis/Christians of Syria also.
On another note, who do these scholarships always go to left-wing people studying/researching on caste, Hindutva etc? Why not people who wish to study/research corporate finance or technology?
She is such a committed ideologue (with appropriate levels of moral righteousness) that in her master's thesis, she manages to accuse and condemn her own Brahmin ancestors in the process. Individuals like her are clever enough to present their work in a language that the orthodoxies of academia will happily approve. But, just think, can they survive a proper, civil debate over their claims without name-calling others?
Toh bete ek month intern karne ke baad aise thread kyu banate ho?
In all seriousness, the following practices will be obsolete in the 10 years from now-
1. ECM for sure, Gen AI can replace all their templatized BS. Also B&F.
2. Tax has GOT to leave the lawyers and go to the CAs ffs.
3.M&A/ Funds will be reduced to research questions, procedural assistance, and legal opinion. Due diligence will be the out of human touch.
4. HR, except one lady in the front desk, all internal HR will be external.
5. Labour/ IPR should only see a surge as the Indian government is trampled by capitalism and India finally becomes a developed country, theres more than drafting here, so AI could be of less use.
6. Litigation will NOT be replaced by AI in 10-15 years. It will continue its victorian practices.
Regarding IITD, I would request you to please consider that the faculty at their HSS department has consistently embraced the worst examples of critical theory in their academic work and pedagogy. The leading spokesperson of this is currently Prof. Dwivedi whose public pronouncements would be worth debating here if they were not so obviously born of her own partisan resentments. She had a major role in starting their new PG programme on culture, society, and thought where the faculty can now freely continue their indoctrination of students without rigor and with the stamp of an IIT, no less. They don't discuss in class what they disagree with. They simply label it as “problematic” or “misogynist” or whatever other adjective that puts others on the defensive. Those who are familiar with this pernicious critical ideology that divides humans into groups of domination and oppression can easily make out the anti-intellectualism of papers that talk about caste-based reparations or label an entire group, such as Brahmins in this case, as wholesale oppressors. There is no rigor/logic in these positions and they do not contribute to human knowledge. They confuse activism with intellect. They are just mimicking the fashions of the West because that is how a predominantly left-dominated academia rewards the groupthink of its members. Their research interests are hardly organic. In ten years, they will again borrow something from their counterparts in the West. Most of them don't even do any fieldwork to justify the outrageous claims in their publications.
As a ECM Lawyer in UK/ US/ Singapore, no you would not. You sound like an intern. The costs are alarmingly high, and the work is monstrous.

She was not home when the agents showed up again the next night, just hours before a former Columbia student living in campus housing, Mahmoud Khalil, was detained, roiling the university. Ms. Srinivasan packed a few belongings, left her cat behind with a friend and jumped on a flight to Canada at LaGuardia Airport.
When the agents returned a third time, this past Thursday night, and entered her apartment with a judicial warrant, she was gone.
“The atmosphere seemed so volatile and dangerous,” Ms. Srinivasan, 37, said on Friday in an interview with The New York Times, her first public remarks since leaving. “So I just made a quick decision.”
…
The Department of Homeland Security issued a statement that characterized Ms. Srinivasan as a terrorist sympathizer and accused her of advocating violence and being “involved in activities supporting Hamas, a terrorist organization.” The department did not provide any evidence for its allegations.
…
She said that her activity on social media had been mostly limited to liking or sharing posts that highlighted “human rights violations” in the war in Gaza. And she said that she had signed several open letters related to the war, including one by architecture scholars that called for “Palestinian liberation.”
“I’m just surprised that I’m a person of interest,” she said. “I’m kind of a rando, like, absolute rando,” she said, using slang for random.

😂😂😂
If you don’t know the difference between supporting Hamas and supporting Palestine you have no business going to graduate school.
If it’s IP then Saikrishna Delhi office is the best, Bangalore office is kinda meh and dead.
In Tax LKS is the best irrespective of the office. But I would suggest Delhi or Mumbai.
Don’t have any idea on the kind of work assigned to law interns in Big4 so can’t comment
- Graduate of CEPT, Harvard and Columbia
- Received Fulbright and Inlaks scholarship
- Tutor at NYU
- Identifies as trans binary and uses they/them pronouns
- Researching on caste and capitalism, in the context of labour.
- Has criticised brahmanical hegemony in the context of labour exploitation
- Right now, internet sleuths are trying to see if her Fulbright and Inlaks scholarship were awarded on pure academic performance or if she has influential parents

Also, another con. People are a lot less diverse. You will find people who have migrated from other parts of India. In general the localities aren't a treat to talk or be with.
It's sad you have reduced it to his name. It's about choice! His father exercised his choice. Wasn't forced on by Russian.
If you want Hindi to be loved and appreciated then stop IMPOSITION!
Let's be proud about rich and diverse culture, let's not be monolith.
You aren't dumb enough to believe that Hindi is being popularised by BJP for the good of the nation. We all know why they want to shove it down people's throat.
Most BJP members and supporters can't seem to wrap their head around "imposition" and "respect for other cultures". A closer study of these two terms/phrases can guide you to the real problem lest you will talk about a Russian name.
1) Good exposure to litigation work, and increasingly, even corporate, real estate, and energy law.
2) Very friendly and helpful people, with a large heart. By and large honest and straight forward people who do not beat around the bush when something needs to be said.
3) Low cost of living when compared to Bangalore and Bombay.
4) Hindi being the only language really spoken around (except for a bit of Punjabi and Haryanvi), so language is not an issue, as long as one can speak Hindi.
Cons:
1) Very bad weather for 9 out of 12 months (it seems like the summer never ends, and the air conditioner needs to be turned on all day during summers, and not just at nights). Surprisingly very humid weather in the last two years at least, during summers, humidity almost as bad as Bombay.
2) High levels of pollution.
3) Unsafe at night, at least in certain areas. Been told that East Delhi in particular gets super unsafe during the night. Have also been advised not to venture out even in South Delhi though after 10-11 at night.
T
2. Very serious, with high potential for hospitalisation of one or more of the impacted parties.
I am currently an A2 in the PE team of a T-1 and have recently been interviewed for a position at Touchstone Partners, Mumbai. Could you please throw some light on the salary at Touchstone, and how the growth looks like. I understand from a Bar and Bench article that they pay the highest at the fresher level (around 22lpa), however, there is no info about the comp at senior levels. Is it similar to T-1s or higher (just as the fresher level salary)?
Would really be grateful if I could get some info at the earliest as I might have my salary negotiation coming Monday.
Thanks
