The Commissioner of Police's report stated that the debris and half-burnt articles were removed on the morning of March 15, 2025. The cash was reportedly found after the debris was removed, but no one saw the cash during the first inspection. There are some contradictions here. How did the cash appear after the PPS visit, despite being thoroughly inspected earlier? There seems to be a significant gap between the first inspection (when no cash was found) and the later discovery of burnt currency sacks.

Eventually NLS students will realise that no matter how good they are (and that is assuming that CLAT really tests merit to study law), they will still have to compete with an increasing number of students within NLS for their share of the overall pie and the share of NLS in that pie compared to those other law schools is not going to increase proportionately. Hence it may not be a good idea to become batch rank 100 at NLS compared to batch rank 10 of NALSAR for example.

When I checked the digital sansad website for private member bills in both houses. I got more bills on the topics I was looking for that were private member bills than there were government drafted bills. There's bills on things like right to healthcare , a hate speech and hate crimes bill that protects multiple open ended classes of people , a national youth comission which actually has broad powers to promote and defend the interests of youth. These are all included in bills drafted by private members yet due to the way parliamentary rules favour government drafted bills over private member bills. It takes years for bills to even by discussed and a large amount outright get lapsed. Why is this ? I hear that government drafted bills involve broad consultations with stakeholders yet I barely hear about calls for input. I feel like we urgently need the parliament to consider many of these bills

Took me a few years of slogging and living like a litigation chamber junior while making T1 pay to really pull myself back from red to a green figure which would be respectable with incoming bonus (nowhere comparable to what it would be without the debts, but I can’t lose sleep over that).

Ofcourse, its not comparable to larger and more crippling debt like house loans or failed family business debt. But in my experience all it takes is slipping into a figurative coma for a few years to ensure doing nothing but the right thing in servicing the debt.

work at the firm for 3 years, then apply for LLM at a foreign uni (Signapore NUS gives good scholarships), try hard for a scholarship (even if its 50% it would be of great help), during LLM apply for a PhD at the same place or other places. During PhD complete NET (it will take aorund 2 weeks of prep). During breaks come back to India and try for credit course at the newer NLUs. During PhD publish 3-4 papers (any scopus journal). Network with VCs at the NLUs that you take the credit courses. You would have a job ready when you finish your PhD.

People will say here now: Enough for "Survival" but not for living comfortably. The rent in this city is way high and unreasonable and will (if you get enough time) make you question your existence and your work every day. Yes, it will be lonely if you are not in the high class or/and are a Gujarati/ Marwadi/ Marathi because that's the only thing people care about you beyond work. The transportation system here is too disorganised as well. So overall surviving here is difficult and this will just suck the soul out of you but there's always hope that is bestowed down here for keeping the people up with the trash and labour-type culture here, so the lala, with the privilege of being born in a high class, can always make soaring profits out of you.

This is so true. Because of our society's mindset, we are always taught that you are supposed to support your parents and family but sometimes in some cases the family just becomes a burden from their doings and just drag you down with them. In such cases the person who suffers really goes into a dilemma because everything reasonably points out to them to just cut it out and save yourself but on the flip side there is also a fear of being judged by the people. You just gotta cut through the second part and focus on your well being though.

No, not worth for anything other than street cred for your intended long-term ambition of litigation. Think about it from the opposite perspective: would barristers' chambers in England and Wales which specialise in family law or crime find any use for Indian-qualified lawyers? No.

For that you have to become a Paralegal. We have interns every month. Some are capable enough to be called back others are just so….

We have had pretty smart interns who got called back, became paralegals and eventually got converted to Associates. Prove your ability and take your seat. Period.

If you talk about the highest then no. Toppers from CSE in top IITs get placed in much better places in the US and Europe. However, that is less than 1% of the total IIT students. If you talk about India packages then an average top 5 NLU grad will get better salaries than an average top IIT grad

Very irresponsible comments here and very irresponsible moderation to allow them. The GNLU administration has its flaws, but it is still better administered than most NLUs. As one of the comments says, certain unethical students are politicising a tragedy to push their m agenda.

Ensure you do not leave holes open that can get you in further debt- get insurance. Try to pay back substantial sums from your salary, but nothing too much that you are cutting down on essentials. Don't engage in any other debt instrument like credit cards.

I'm a student at a Tier 1 law school (where Magic Circle firms do recruit 3-4 people every year). I wanted to enquire whether they hire for positions in jurisdictions outside Europe and the US - specifically in Singapore, Malaysia, the UAE, or other regions closer to India. If they do, is the recruitment process similar to their hiring procedures for Europe and the US?

I know an associate who works there and they are pretty content and happy with the pay and work. Their working hours are good (except if an urgent transaction has come up- in that case you may be required to spend late nights) and the partners are understanding. Does not seem to be toxic. The partners are from AZB and SAM.

They don't take freshers usually. Not so sure about the pay increment over the years but they do initially match your last pay. I think it's a good firm to work as an associate but I'm not sure if there is enough work for interns. They take max 1-2 interns at a time, so it must be atleast better than most bulk intakes in T-1s.

Delimitation is about effective representation. But Araghya short sells the extent to which India really is a Union of States. We very nearly were not a country because of the language issue, delimitation would cut even deeper.

Southern states are arguing that theyre being punished for being successful in limiting population growth and punished for having successful economies as they contribute more to the national kitty than they take in. If one only sticks to the principle that representation must be based on population—one in effect encourages bad behaviour—the more people you make, the poorer they are, the more voice you will have in parliament. It starts off a race to the bottom.

This really isn't about which party will win or lose. Karnataka routinely votes for different parties or delivers mixed electoral results. It's as likely a state for the BJP as it is for the congress. However, even kannadigas would be wary of delimitation because there is a real bipartisan sense among people in the state that they are being taken for a ride.

These states are not successful because of some flip of the coin or because of the beneficence of the central government. They are successful because they have routinely voted based not on religious or caste based issues, although those factors may be present in a minor way, but on governance. Culturally as well, religious divisions run less deep in the southern states. You only notice the difference once youve lived in the north and the south, theyre like different countries in this respect. Political parties in the south know that they should have a list of accomplishments come election time or be prepared to lose sorely, that stoking religious or caste hatred would not tide them over in the face of failures in governance.

So they invest in the law and order, invest in schools, and keep their economies from running into debt by trying to attract new industries. Why do so many people from all over the country come to Bangalore, Hyderabad, and Chennai to study engineering and medicine and management and heck law? Why did tech companies set up shop in these cities rather than in Patna, Lucknow, or Ranchi? It certainly isnt because the people of Ranchi, Patna, or Lucknow are less industrious or less capable- many of those people work in tech and attend schools in the south. Its because their governments have neglected to invest in the same things- law and order, education, new and emerging industries etc.

We all want to live by noble ideas of one person one vote, one vote one value, southern states are not disputing the validity of that claim. But they are arguing that if we are so unequal in our priorities and our development, they would lose by artificially imposing a legal requirement of one vote one value on these disparate states. And they arent wrong. No amount of clever legal/ theoretical argument would convince them to give up their own self interest. Perhaps what would quiet their fears for sometime is a firm commitment by the states north of the Vindhyas to improve governance in their states over a definite period of time. But these commitments will have to remain essentially unenforceable.

Southern states would not be wrong to argue- if you dislike that you do not have effective representation, one vote one value, perhaps you should ensure that your state governemnt invests in family planning, education, and poverty reduction measures. The inefficiency is not caused due to choices made by the southern states after all but because of choices made by governments in the northern states.

We do have a negotiated federal compact. It's in the Constitution. If the southern states are dragged to a negotiating table against their will to redraw that compact, you might have to prepare for them being willing to walk away altogether. And- it won't do to point out that there arent enough military capabilities in the southern states for them to be able to sustain independence. Thats just a naked threat to comply or be subject to a conquest. And when we are at that point of negotiation- we will might have already lost the Constitution anyway. We are a union of states. We are not a conquered people and their conquerors.

I really dislike the fatalistic attitude on display here. One would think that general category middle class students from lowly ranked colleges never get anywhere but its patently untrue. Your career options are what you make them. I know folks who went to- christ or CLC and ended up at ivy league schools with scholarships and I know folks who became famous litigators and folks who worked their way up the corporate ladder and are partners now.

You wont get any of that stuff handed to you. But if you start and work hard theres really no reason why you cant eventually get to the top of your field.

It will likely depend on you college + practice are (corp / litigation). Campus hires receive uniform pay 16 for noida, 18 for Delhi (including bonus). If you are a PPO hire, you might end up getting as low as 70k pm for disputes and 80k pm for corporate. You will only know your retainer amount on the day you get your first pay cheque.
