I am terrible at speaking when nervous. I take stutter, repeat, get tongue tied, have trouble finding the right words, etc. On the brighter side I generally don't lack ideas to speak on. Has anyone faced this issue previously? How did they get past it? What can I do to improve?

Hi everyone, I am in a T2 NLU didn't score well in the first two semesters have a CGPA of about 3.3/7. I am yet to enter my 2nd year. What can I do now so that I could have a career in Corp. Law Firms, because it has been often stressed upon that grades are very imp for T1 or T2 law firms, so what should I do? Should I focus on publications and blogs along with bettering my grades or will my 1st year grades impact my chances?? PS: No good internships as of yet.

What fabric and of which Company should one choose for black two/three pcs suit for Indian Summer which looks good at the same time it is comfortable or at least bearable even if there is no Air Conditioning. Hello! i am a clat aspirant and i have joined CUSAT SLS for bba llb as of now, and they want us to wear uniform of black and white formal shirt and pants or kurthi with vest for girls (and i was planning to do the latter cus i am personally more comfortable in that). But i dont want to waste money by buying/stiching uniform and not being able to use it if i do end up changing into an NLU, so i would like to know the general rule of thumb for uniforms in NLUs. tysm

My advice is to 30-35% and divide it between a liquid emergency fund (10%) and mutual fund investments (20%)

Take care of yourself now that you are earning well but do not spend money on stupid stuff. It is very easy to prioritise savings over wellbeing or splurging on things you don’t need- be mindful of both.

Buy your family and friends gifts from time to time, there is no better way of enjoying this money.

well, you can always take more loans like a private loans. Try asking in your extended family if they'd be willing to sponsor or lend some money which you can pay back in the near future. I dont think they'd charge you interest.

Other than this, mail to as many companies' CSR divisions as you can, maybe even ministries, etc. and plead for help. If you keep mailing, maybe you'll get some help. Also, I dont know your college but NLUs have fee waivers for the needy so can try contacting them as well. Good luck

This is a refreshingly mature take. As a woman I can confirm this is true. I would only add that part of it is an issue with the profession and its distrust, competitiveness and burnout. Blame must always be assigned. This would be much healthier if dinner was just dinner and if two people don’t click, neither is at fault. No pressure to pull the rejection trigger first, and no shame if it doesn’t work. We learn from school to mock people who try and fail at romance and it leaves no room for the vulnerability and trial & error dating needs.

Interns, in particular, are neither appreciated nor given any constructive feedback on their work. In many cases, they are not even acknowledged as part of the team.

Have lived in Tokyo and New York. Have visited several of the other cities you mentioned as well. No Indian city is within a mile of any of these cities. Hell, visiting Ho Chi Minh in bloody Vietnam was the saddest moment of my life. I was expecting a dirty, run down and dystopian city, but instead, I found a city much cleaner, more advanced and safer than any city in India.

I live in India only because I have family here and because I have a certain attachment to my country. But to be fair, Mumbai, with its massive slums and filthy streets is several decades behind any foreign city of medium reputation.

I switch jobs. If you can't change the people CHANGE the people. I know that someone who hasn't changed in 25-30 years of life wouldn't change just by a complaint/conversation. Moving away from that person (read change team/Job) is the cleanest solution to the problem. I don't even engage or talk back ever to that person even when it's not my mistake - so that the time that I have here isn't made more unbearable.

This may not be the best solution if you are a rebel and are strong enough with having a constant tussle. In which case, you report the toxic behaviour to partner and then HR. But keep in mind that you will continue working with this person till the time any action (if any) is taken. So for this long period nothing would have changed and it's your call if getting that person reprimanded (forget such person will change his/her ways) is worth it.

Connections doesn't only mean parents, caste etc. Are you dumb AF ? Connections in academia means which universities did you graduate from, post graduate, doctoral, post doc from ? Who taught you ? Who mentored you ? Who can give you a recommendation? Which two professors will recommend you for a phd ? Which professor will recommend you for a post doc ? Which institute can recommend you for the funds ? There's a reason NLU folks are not preferred in central universities. There's a reason why NLUs are preferred abroad. There's a reason why abroad degrees are preferred here. Everything in academia is about connections. Seema like you haven't spent a day in academia.

Mind numbing cut-copy-paste work such as most of the work entry level and sometimes even higher level cap marks lawyers do will eventually be automated as a matter of practise. The only reason why this isn't being done as yet is because of the high level of accuracy required when the regulator is breathing down on your neck. Unlike client facing advisory work, you don't get much leeway to work around minor, inadvertent errors. However, technology will overcome this sooner rather than later.

In house salaries vary tremendously from company to company and sector to sector and even person to person (even if they are in same sector or company). Which is why there is no uniform thread or portal to gauge this. Even fresher salaries may not be uniform, as Tier 1 college freshers may be given more. Most of the in-house salaries reports released by firms like Vahura are pure bullshit and sometimes paint a very inflated and rosy picture for few sectors. The only truth while changing jobs in house is, you are as good as your last drawn salary and bargaining/negotiating power.

Know your resume very well. You should be able to defend every line mentioned as part of your work experience. Know the basics. At this stage, nothing much is expected. All that is expected is to be a candidate who knows what's mentioned on his/ her resume and is simply not bluffing jargons and is a energetic candidate. After all, law is not rocket science - you will put in the time and understand it eventually. But one needs to be motivated enough to spend time and understand - or else, there are many glorified typists available in the law firms :). Be someone you can rely upon and to begin with - know the basics. Companies Act (primary/ secondary issuances/ ESOPs) / FEMA pricing/ basics of governance/ critical aspects of diligence and why is diligence done, etc.

i would say it depends on your background as well, coming from a tier one city, nluj is pretty conservative, but not to the extent that you would have to go back into the closet. There is are a lot of people who are openly out and there is a pride community (which is unfortunately largely defunct). There a few homophobes, but as you would quickly realize they are bitter about everything and ultimately no one really cares

Buy a plain vanilla term insurance policy and take a small health insurance policy in your personal name even if your employer is providing coverage. I'm currently in my last year of bcom and I'm confused whether I should go with LLB or do MBA. LLB was an option for me since school but after doing an internship in HR and people's suggestions, I also feel like doing MBA. I'm interested in corporate in LLB but will a 3 year course have the same scope as 5 year course? Should I go for 3 year LLB or do MBA as I have commerce background?

It is a piece of good news that JGLS is getting more funds. What remains to be seen is what they really do with such funds. Even after almost sixteen years since being formed, the institute hasn't produced good funded research projects, nor does it lower student fees down from an obscene amount. So other than hiring marquee names in their twilight who barely teach, or hiring random freshers with foreign LLMs who can hardly teach, where is all the money going? To maintain the swimming pool?

Depends on the NLU, but the standard practice in all universities is that whatever name you had provided at the time of admission, unless you're changing the name legally while as a student and making a formal application to that effect, after the degree certificate gets issued, it is unlikely to be changed in the records further. A friend of mine tried for a long time before giving up.

Hello all. I am a third year at a T2 NLU down south. I recently have been dating a SA in ▮▮▮ ▮▮▮. While we love each other a lot and are content of our relationship, will it be wrong if I ask him for references for internship and can he eventually help me get a job reference contingent on my performancr? Or it is too much to ask from someone at his level. (He is extremely sweet and charming and I would not mind not bringing my career if it's a big task)

As someone who's about to give my first interview, that too for disputes team in a T1 firm, I'm not sure as to how much of legal depth I'll be expected to know.

The partner who'll be taking my interview has a diverse practice, spanning from IBC, SARFAESI to PMLA.
