Echoing the previous sentiments, Key to Indian Practice for CPC. If you are familiar with the basic concepts, maybe try reading some commentary/more detailed book cover to cover. It helps. Most of them are not quite good, tbh. Sarkar's Civil Court Practice & Procedure Manual is relatively small in size (1500-2000 pages), but again, not very high quality (not many high quality books in this area).

For arbitration, you can also refer to Redfern & Hunter. Arbitration principles irrespective of jurisdiction are more-or-less the same. As for the Arbitration & Conciliation Act, read the recent significant judgments — Vidya Drollia, Cox & Kings, Gayatri Balasamy. They anyway discuss the prevailing legal position generally and the historical developments.

Generally to brush up on civil law, you can also read up on the relevant judgments prescribed for the AOR Paper-4 (Leading Cases).

Rest, I'd say really depends on what HC you are at. Keep reading up on recent judgments passed by the judges sitting in the relevant roster. If you want general, broad knowledge, you can buy a couple of latest volumes of the court reporter (say, for DHC, DLT - though I strongly dislike reading it for the quality of paper used in comparison to, say, SCC - but SCC doesn't cover HC anyway so moot point).

So we all know that GNLU has its fair share of (rightful) protests, right? And somehow the admin always manages to keep things on the low while maintaining this false, perfect PR image to ensure placement numbers.

But this past sem, things have gotten so much worse. Students have been actively calling out faculty and admin for overstepping (HISTORIC number of students weren't allowed to write exams due to attendance shortage btw, I'm sure some of y'all saw that the matter went to the Gujarat HC on an urgent basis- almost 60-70 students per subject). The admin have been literally making up rules that aren't written anywhere and are def not standard practice.

To shut down all these complaints and accusations against the admin and faculty body, the new chief Faculty Warden has just sent out this super aggressive email threatening to BREAK THE LOCKS on hostel rooms if residents haven't submitted their keys. Their excuse? "Asset numbering." That's not something that needs to happen during semester breaks, and let's be so real rn- the admin has never gotten anything done during breaks in the hostels, not even barebones maintenance.

The best part, you ask? Students have already had valuable stuff go missing from their rooms after handing over keys to hostel authorities: trashed rooms, missing cash, stolen items, and guess what...still ZERO accountability from the admin. Anyone who wants maintenance already submits their keys out of their own will.

This is another new and unsurprising low in GNLU's recent history, and feels like another way to make student life harder on campus, that's already seen some of the worst incidents amongst NLUs and law schools in general.

I want to join defence as a JAG Officer. Can someone please tell which is better JAG in Indian Navy or Indian Air Force? I want to know about which has better carrer growth and where can I go for international/UN missions or peace treaties. Or which has better work culture/posting/salary.

I am aware of the selection process for both and that air force does not have a separate notification for JAG.

I was of the opinion that Army JAG would be the best one in terms of carrer growth but then I had seen videos of a famous retd. Army JAG Officer and those were like eye-opener for me. Let me know if I am wrong.

I'm a Final year student, from a private college(not so popular one), have no internship with top tier firms. have interned with boutique corporate law firms(pursuing cs), that why i have particular interest with corporate domain,

suggest some corporate law firm that offers assessment internship in chennai , would be happy to looking into it.

Because the goal of giving jobs to reserved communities will be met directly and in much increased numbers, through such a system. Govt jobs are the most coveted in India. At the same time, bright students from both general and reserved categories can avail of seats in colleges purely on the basis of merit and seek opportunities in the private sector and abroad. Efficiency maintained, social justice maintained.

A much better system IMO.

Currently an associate in a T-1 firm (disputes) feeling like I don't know anything. Did not learn anything in college and not learning on the job as well.

Really want to brush up (more like learn from scratch) CPC, arbitration and civil disputes in general.

I have been reading through the book- Arbitration in India (Wolters Kluwer) edited by Mr. Dushyant Dave, Mr. Fali Nariman etc. and it seems like a really good book.

Can anyone point to similar (preferably free) resources that would help me with bot only with my job but also acing any recruitment interviews I might have in the future.

Which city are you in? There is an ocean of opportunities out there. You just need one to get things on track. Trust me, that will happen in its own course. The uncertainty that you are experiencing is typical of hundreds and thousands of law students like you, including those from the NLUs. That said, a majority of the openings are with smaller firms and individual practitioners who may not pay you what you hope for or what the bigger firms pay. Brace yourself for that. Start small if you have to. The single greatest harm you can do to your career is to compare yourself with peers in the initial stages. Accept the fact that there will always be someone else who has got a break into a more prominent firm or got a bigger salary. In the long run, these don't matter. Grab the smallest opportunity you get and take things from there. Just wear blinkers and focus on what you have at hand. The intrinsic value of what you learn in the first five years of the profession (and beyond that too) is far far greater than the monetary value, and that is what is going to keep you in good stead down the line. The discomfort that you are feeling now is actually a blessing in disguise and it is this feeling of not wanting to be where you are which is going to propel you achieve.

The problem with these “young guy” Boomer partners is that they refuse to understand that other people may want to spend time with their loved ones, pursuing a hobby, doing something meaningful with their lives after work. Unlike the partner, they don’t have the luxury to stroll into office in the afternoon, but have to stay put till Lord sits on his chair at night. The point of working so hard and earning money is to able to spend it with your near and dear ones. Looks like you don’t understand the concept.

That's a lot of presumption about a fairly young guy,as far as these senior partners go. He could easily accumulate capital for a few more years before stepping away on his own. And as long as his team is growing and making money ( which I hear they are) i doubt anyone will give a damn about a few late nights, especially as he will get older and more hands off.

I mean this is just a bizzare comment. If you bring business, a team, growth prospects and a business plan every Firm will welcome you. Not every Firm has a nonsensical partnership deed like Luthras that can't hold up to scrutiny. He would have multiple firms looking at him. The real question is he really stepping away?

Leadership at CMS should reconsider keeping a brother and sister duo in the same team, one reporting the other. This situation inherently creates a conflict of interest.

VK runs a book of 30 crores. Any firm would love to take the team. Same for BJ. One is running a team of 20 lawyers and the other of 40 lawyers. Facts speak for themselves. I know for a fact that they have been independently approached by many of the Big Firms. MS needs to realise that his dynastic approach towards running a fiefdom can work in Mahabharata- not in a law firm. He needs to professionalize it asap.

You seem to be desperately seeking validation. Why is it? Do you feel that you are otherwise average or below average (in terms of physical appearance, personality, intellect, etc) and would not be noticed if it were not for your unusual clothing choice, to come across as "trendy" at a a place of work? Could be symptomatic of an inferiority complex. A lot of people from tier 2/ tier 3 towns have it. You may seek professional help.
