AI is making people lazy. I see people at my first using it for basic take like drafting an email just shows the level of underconfidence.

Unethical to charge your client if your draft is nothing but a humanized version of an AI output.

Work is not infinite because if its reptitive or a model can be trained on it, large companies or in house teams can get it done via ai. The only factor remains is executives want to shirk accountability which is where law firms will play a role in the future. Lawyers will have to work 2x to make the same amount, number of entry level jobs will diminish significantly

You are right to be worried. As someone at a senior level, running a firm that is working with AI to improve - I can tell you that AI as a whole is significantly going to change the landscape for the work to be done.

Just the other day, I was able to put together the first draft of an entire complex agreement using AI. I had to burn about 15K worth of credits, but it was well worth it in that the quality of output was very much worth paying 15K for - and it did that job in about 4 hours - while even a very good PA / SA would have taken atleast a day with no guarantee of quality.

So what does this mean for you and anyone else who is starting out in the profession:
(a) Judgment / understanding context beyond the written text / being able to think deeper and more comprehensively - those will be skills people will look for in the future. So focus on understanding commercial context, understanding different approaches to solving complex problems, understanding why something is the way it is. In my time, you had no way of accessing this knowledge or even knowing what to ask. Today AI can take you quite deep and act as a thought partner.

(b) A natural caveat to that is that lots of juniors and lawyers in training are using AI as a substitute for thinking and understanding, simply because its easy to get answers from AI and then repeat it. This will be the biggest cause of down-fall for young folks coming through. If I ask you for your thought on something and you just repeat what AI told you without understanding (and trust me - we know), then why do I need you - I can just train an AI to respond to me in those situations. So that is what you will need to avoid.

All of the above, notwithstanding, there will always be space for human lawyers - its just that drafting has gotten a lot easier - so I guess that's something. But again - like (a) and (b) above, you have to draft ground-up before you can use AI to do the drafting - so keep in mind as well.

The nature of the job will change, associates won't be needed to spend as much time, so that's good. However, learning will also be a lot lesser - people tend to stop using their brains and rely on AI too much sometimes, that's the danger.

I felt the same during my law school (Tier 2 NLU), and I really hope my advice may be helpful to you.

If you are truly interested in the intersection of law or any other field, then yes, please go for it. Having said that, I am sure you are putting in all the hard work; just in case you are not, I feel the truth is that studying law is, at its core, not so enjoyable for everyone. But the fact that you are where students dream maybe you can put in your efforts and graduate with good grades, as that is a must for venturing out to any profession. You must have worked hard already, so you know that studying does increase confidence,, not just marks. My core idea is, enjoy, but please acknowledge that law is essentially mundane.

I might be wrong, but the intersection of law and a creative field or any field, can be mundane. Marketing is equally stressful to pursuing law. I do not know if you are interested in them genuinely or because law seems tough, so you are looking for a way out. If it is a latter case, yes, law is tough, way tougher than clearing CLAT. But it is a series of subjects only, which are completely doable. Look for ways to make it simple for you, there are YouTube videos explaining each law subject and yes, YOU are SMART & COMPETENT , THAT IS WHY YOU ARE THERE. PERIOD.

perhaps focus on getting enjoying, good grades, interning at different courts, firms ( but do not build your cv look too haphazard, someone consistency should be there). I fell in love with law way too late, but more than loving or enjoying it, treat studying as your KARMA , which has to be done ( NOT AT ALL THE COST OF YOUR MENTAL & PHYSICAL HEALTH).

but many of it comes from either other teams
IBC as a practice is good but not suggested to make a carrer just soley based on this trust me

I am looking for places to apply to for an internship and would be grateful if anyone could suggest good litigating lawyers where an intern could actually learn something. I am generally averse to applying under 'TV/Twitter' lawyers, based off of what i have heard from people who have interned under them. one month interns can get extended, many people have interned there for over a year.

the paralegal position exists as well, its for graduates and pays 65k a month, it's just almost never given out but some teams chose to take associates if an urgent vacancy arises through this route as it is a reduced cost and helps them assess the individual prior to confirming them.
