To run or not to run the rat race??

Posted by hemanth on in Uncategorized

Cut throat Competition needs no introduction. We are all so familiar with it. It starts right from an young age wherein you’re compared with your siblings or your cousins and when ever families meet all they discuss is how well their children are doing when compared to others be it studies or sports. We are trained by the society to compare ourselves with others and our self worth depends upon how good the other person is, if the other person is better than you then you have a low self esteem but if you are better than the other person your ego inflates all of a sudden!!!! We are thought to view life has a race which you have to win irrespective of how we win it.

Law schools foster the same culture both in academics and co curricular activities. Every law student is obsessed with two words- CGPA and CV. Law School is a place wherein we learn to use others to make the most of our needs. We learn not to believe anyone, we learn friendship only means diplomacy, seniors mean contacts necessary to get into committees and all the co curricular activities we do mean nothing but only points in our CVs. As the end sem exams are nearing we find students hiding library books someplace elsewhere in the library and other such effective practices of cut throat competition!!!! They are ready to do anything which ensures that they win this rat race!!!

But I think we law students need to introspect what is more important in the end and how do we want to spend the next five years of our life?? We only have two options either to run the rat race or sit by the fence and enjoy…………………

I often wonder if a good CGPA alone is enough to lead a good life? I am in a dilemma whether to run or not to run in this rat race????????????

Buddy!! be in the rat race, except if you have a legal background as a backup. I am in my fourth year, with a decent CGPA (top 15 % of the class) and i am lost. As the CGPA is not leading me anywhere, not even an internship.

There is no need to join the rat race. But aim for a good CGPA, good internships, good moots, etc for the right reasons. Even after doing all these, you can still enjoy life in a law school. Even a nerd who had done all these things and who passed out from law school will not deny that law school was the best period in her or his life.

lazy bones .... why don't you want to run? dont be lazy and sit by the fence. be a sport ... any race is good to run for. but rain fair. there are a lot of good reasons to do well in lawschool ... it develops personality. if you don't run and call it a rat race, then you are fooling yourself and wasting 5 years. not every runner is a rat ... so, once again, run fair.

The beauty of law lies in its interpretation and not just the substance. You guys are being sooooo objective, black or white ....Such people make pathetic advocates. They suffer..!!!! Try to run on a better course ! Before running make sure that u run on appropriate path !
