Mooting Premier League 2010-11 - MPL2

Nalsar Hyderabad is set to compete with Australian and Canadian law schools in the ICC Trial Competition in The Hague, with a live webcast of the finals at 17:30 India time today (15 April).

[[Nalsar Hyderabad]], along with Bond University, Australia and Osgoode Hall Law School, Canada are to participate in a gruelling final trial of the fourth [[International Criminal Court (ICC) Trial Competition The Hague|ICC Trial Competition]].

The final rounds will be taking place at 17:30 (India time) and will be live webcast on the ICC’s website. The rounds will be judged by Hon’ble judges from the International Criminal Court, according to an official ICC Press release.

This moot is a Tier 2 world class moot in this season of the Mooting Premier League season 2, which is sponsored by Allen & Overy

Three Indian teams were selected to participate in this moot being held at the Hague, Netherlands after being successful in the problem-solving round which helps to filter teams from each country.

This year [[Nalsar Hyderabad]], [[NLS Bangalore]] and [[NLU Jodhpur]] participated in the moot.

The Nalsar team is consisting of Chand Chopra, Anjaneya Das, Niharika Malik and Sarvani Desiraju. Each of the three teams in the final rounds will give oral presentations within their assigned role of prosecutor, defence counsel, or victims’ counsel. “A total of 21 teams from across the world participated in this edition of the moot”, organiser Michelle Johnson told Legally India’s Team MPL, in an email response.

Having reached the finals of this Tier 2 moot, Nalsar is sure to take home 25 MPL points, according to the [[MPL rulebook]]. This will boost its lead in the [[MPL Standings]] and [[NUJS Kolkata]] will have to come out with a strong Vis Vienna performance to overtake Nalsar and win this season of the MPL.

The moot is organised by the International Criminal Law Network (ICLN) with the institutional support of the ICC and the cooperation of the University of Amsterdam, Pace University and the American Society of International Law. The moot problem, which revolves around the trial of the fictitious Mr. John Evans, can be accessed here. Last year, [[NLU Jodhpur]] won the award for the best victims’ counsel. Nalsar was the finalist in the first edition of the moot in 2007.

LI: Please note, subject to correction, there is no overall best speaker award at Hague, but since each speaker argues one side (Prosecution, Defence, Victim), there is a best speaker award for arguing each side, one of which was won by NLS.

NLS also made the semis of the IALSA Space Law Moot, organised by Ricky Lee, won best memo and best speaker. Since LI gave points to performance at Leiden-Sarin, they should definitely give Tier 5 equivalent points for this.

"Of course there is a best overall speaker award. It was won by Anjaneya Das of NALSAR.
NALSAR finished as Runners-up, with Chand Chopra bagging the award for best victims representation team, and Anjaneya Das won best defence counsel as well as overall best speaker.
NLSIU won best memorial, and Krishnaprasad KV won best defence team. There are distinct awards for best defence counsel and best defence team."

About the comment on jessup final results, I would again say that since NLU Delhi got an honourable mention for the newly introduced award, Best Applicant Side, even Nalsar should get Honourable Mention for best applicant memo, another newly introduced award this year. Details are very much available on the website.

Hi, We'll confirm shortly.

On the new LI blog settings, I agree, it's a bit annoying to have to supply an email address, name and title for every post. We are currently working on disabling this requirement in the software.

In the meantime though, don't worry about it - your email address is 100% confidential and will not be published so it should just take you a few extra seconds...

Best wishes,
Kian

NLS won best overall memorial and best defence team which includes defence memo points. The award for best defence counsel, based only on speaker points, was won by anajaneya das, as written by someone.

We have reached the stage where NALSAR (the true Deccan Chargers) only has a mathematical chance of not winning the MPL. Something like the last IPL where a certain team called KKR needed to win all matches by 50 runs or something.
