Don't write CLAT. Don't give the exam which gives you a chance to go to the best law schools in India.

(All content in the last poem was mine, from me) But let me tell you the sort of education you receive, atleast in the top 5 NLUs, the brilliant crowd with which you interact with and compete against, and (some) brillinat faculty members who mould you and goad you to doing some really good things are things to be cherished.

That apart placements, internships, moots etc., opportunities are abundant. Foreign law firms are dying to have some sort of tieups...Take NLS for example and NUJS...See here http://1sttaste.blogspot.com/2010/01/herbert-smith-oxford-course-national.html. Foreign universties too are eager for MOUs etc.

And take this for example Nandan Nilekani's UIDAI project has internship for law students: only students from NLS, NALSAR, NUJS and NLIU can apply. A magic circle firm has an essay contest...only for students from NLS, NUJS, NALSAR and NLUJ.

See the MPL rankings if you are still not convinced. See the recruitments happening in these colleges if you need more facts, still. And please don't post such instigatory posts; with content that is utter crap.

I have to agree that many of the newer national law schools are riding on the name. Their facilities and faculty are pathetic

No need to lose your marbles if you feel others are losing it. The five-year course is a long walk and can get very tiring at times with the pressure, and effects of lack-of-good faculty. If you are a long way into lawschool, then do carry on. Try and manage your issues and do some other activities to test your skills (people write books / articles, go for moots, volunteer for some committee e.g. legal aid etc.). If its early days, do consider dropping out … coz if u dnt enjoy it, there is no point dragging on. But before any drastic measure, do keep in mind that lawschool gives a lot of opportunities and opens many doors (as #1 has pointed out). I had my share of bad and even horrendous faculty – but still, I feel that lawschhol is an evolutionary experience - make the most out of it. Even the newer lawschools have a lot to offer.

i cant say about nlu's but ya these private colleges sure suck. m in amity nd can surely say u will gt bored in 1st six months only.
they dont hv propr faculty, no placements,...

Hello All

While i do not deny that students from top NLUs do have ample opportunities, it is often interpreted by them to mean that students going to other colleges dont have these opportunities. This is absolutely false. There are people and mind well, SEVERAL people, who win the same sort of scholarships, go to the best of forein universities and also do get offers from some of the best international law firms. I have several friends who have done all these things without going to some of the best known colleges in India. While it may be true that National Law Universities in themselves give a different educational experience in itself, I do believe that when they talk of opportunities they provide or advertise their achievements, they are somewhat over rated simply because they are not the only ones who're getting those opportunities or winning most of those laurels.

There are two truths of life which every student and every person in general must understand- best opportunities go to the best students. It does not matter where you are studying. And secondly, a good law school or great grades may end up opening the elite doors for you, but it is only the beginning! It matters not where you begin, it matters where you end.

There are several other points i can raise. But what I have written above is the gist of it.

Why doesn't the blogger himself/herself or Kian, for that matter, delete the blog post...as in...chuck this post out of the list of blogs presently listed on 'your blogs'!? WHY?

@ LegalPoet - Despite not being able to read the main entry, I fail to understand why you are so concerned about this "blog". Does it hurt your sentiments in any way if some law student wishes to express anguish over his/her frustration with law school? We've all been frustrated in life with one thing or the other and the internet gives us a means to let it out and see how many people out there share what we think.

Clearly, you've never gone through it, considering you've been in the "best" law schools in the country. Are you really telling me people aren't frustrated in the NLSes? Please, if really are from an NLS, you really should have better things to do than to comment on a blog entry written by a person you don't even know and running some kind of public campaign to get it banned/deleted/blocked!

@Ed - I think it was very cool of you to let the entry be and let the author decide whether he/she wanted to take it off or not. Really. Big thumbs up :)

I wanted the post to be deleted because it said that ALL the NLUs are over hyped...that ALL of them have terrible faculties. Yes, I am from a national law school (not the best one...who told you that) J and can't tolerate lies over a public forum.

If you say bad faculty; tell people why; cool. Thats fine! But don't make false assertions just for the heck of it. And yes the editor did a fabulous job. Congrats!

And well, venting your frustrations is great but telling a lie is not. (they taught this is to me in LKG).

PS- a question: when you say that "if you are really from a NLU..." do you mean to say that people from national law schools should never comment on 'blogs'?

PS 2- Twas a public campaign?! Wow! My first. (It really took a lot of effort, you know...out in the sweltering heat, with a t-shirt with a laughing buddha on it...ermmm...che guevra would have looked more real...right?)

Thanks for your support. On the other hand arguments could be made on the other side of this coin too. The post was definitely borderline of the blogging rules, but it also struck a nerve and addressed a potentially interesting topic.

Ultimately we will err on the side of caution in deleting blog posts, unless they start becoming spammy and a big problem.

1. I didn't mean to say people from National Law Schools shouldn't comment on blogs. Of course, everyone has a right to comment. I'm sorry if thats how it came off. I was merely trying to convey my confusion as to your reasons for so vociferously trying to get this post deleted.

2. I stand corrected. It wasn't a public campaign. Once again, it was a way of expressing my bewilderment at how deeply this post hurt your sentiments.

3. Once again, I stand corrected. You did not say you were from the BEST national law school. However, your first post (Comment No. 1) seemed like an advertisement for a National Law School. I understand your pride at being in a premier institution like..hmm...I'll take a stab in the dark and go with NALSAR/NUJS... but it just came off as a little self-glorifying. It was sarcasm and it wasn't meant to be offensive.

4. Lots of people feel that the NLSes are overhyped. Lots. Lots. And did I mention...? Lots. This includes firms, solicitors, litigators and students. I'm sure there are tons of other firms, solicitors, litigators and students who think they're just gravy. You may write it off as a case of "sour grapes" but its an opinion. I'm not in one (I'm sure you figured that out); I never tried for one and never wanted to be in one. Not because I think they suck or mine's better - they don't and its not. The National Law Schools provide their students with amazing opportunities (as very well demonstrated in your advert..sorry..post). But maybe the author (among several others) don't feel that its worth a lot of other anguish that it was apparently causing to him/her.

5. I can see that the post possibly borderlined on the verge of being "offensive" (would love to read it though, but I guess I won't be able to) - I simply believe that the author has a right to express his/her opinion. I don't know about the "lies" you speak of, but I suppose its just one person's experience, right?

6. I understand you have a right to your opinion too. Just like the author, me and everyone else in this country and most countries abroad. But your opinion would be so much more effective, if it did not come off as someone who's running a crusade to delete another person's view. And once again, the word "crusade" has been used to exaggerate.

I'm sure arguments could be made that the post was downright offensive. I just think its very professional of you to let it be. The whole "NLSes - Overhyped or Man's Gift to Man" topic will rage on for many years to come and its always interesting to see how people think. I personally have nothing against them, despite not being in one (which almost automatically usually translates into me having sour grapes if I point out anything negative about them).

I've met some extremely remarkable people from NALSAR, NLS and NUJS and I think the institutions play a huge part in channelising their intelligence with the plethora of opportunities available to the student body.

On a side note - I thoroughly enjoy reading blogs and topics on your website. Its a great means to pass through the inevitable slow hours at work.
