This blog is with respect to a question that baffles many a law aspirants.

Each year thousands of students give the CLAT and AILET exams. Even though CLAT has 12 colleges under its ambit, it all comes down to Bangalore and Hyderabad. Every appearing candidate hopes to make it through these two colleges. These colleges help you get a handsome package, they say. Others say that the faculty is at par with Oxford. But hey, there is NLU-D too, the candidate asks. “NLU-D? It isnt tested beta.” pat comes the reply.

NLU-D, established in 2007 is a toddler whereas NLSIU has already reached its 20’s. The former is full of hopes, while the latter is tried and tested. NLU-D has a brand-new and futuristic campus, whereas NLSIU has this rustic charm. The same man who helped make NALSAR what it is today is now the vice-chancellor of NLU-D. But talk to any NALSAR student, they reply in all their snobbish might that NLU-D can never be what NALSAR is at present.

The average student who has cleared both CLAT and AILET has no choice but to opt for NLSIU or NALSAR, forcing Delhi to come up with a second or third merit list. Take this year’s example. All seats in NLSIU were filled in the first merit. Only two students, one Physically disabled and one from ST hills category, chose to opt out. While NLU-D has released a second merit list too.

I read a comment where a person was calling NLU-D students who are from Delhi ‘sissies’ for not having the courage to leave their hometown in search of greener pastures. This person surely does not know of the saying that never judge a person until you know their story. They arent sissies. Maybe they saw hope in a future at NLU-D. Maybe they come from a difficult family background and the thought of leaving their loved ones for 5 long years makes them shiver.

A college is a place which moulds you, sculpts you. If a child is not at peace in his/her college due to its location or any other factor, whats the use of going there in the first place? OK, the end result will be worth it, no? But what about the present!

Also,these college rankings. India Today recently published a list and Symbiosis Pune was at the fouth place. A pvt college which does not even award a hons degree to its students was at the 4th place. Maybe beacuse of the foreign dignitaries who come there because they are offered a wad of money.

I hear that NLU-D had to change the date of its first ever recruitment day because the dates clashed with NUJS. But I also hear that Sitharaman Kakarala, who previously taught at NLSIU is now teaching at NLU-D.

On an ending note, I will say to each his own, but dont ever go to a college just because of its ranking or hearsay. Go where you feel comfortable, where you can pave way for a bright future for yourself.
