NUJS without any doubt. Go for NLSIU, NALSAR, NUJS, NLUJ and NLIU, Bhopal ahead of NLUD any time.
These intititutions are older, more established, have great recruitments etc.
And NUJS as far as I know has had some great faculty joining in the last year. That is the only ‘minus’NLUs have to counter that ‘NLUs don’t have good faculties’. With that covered NUJS has really taken a huge leap forward.
LegalPoet30 May 2010, 15:43
If you are from Delhi and want to remain warm and cosy at home, you may choose NLU Delhi.
I have no doubt that in 7-8 years it will be up there with the top five colleges-ban, hyd, kol, jodh and bhopal.
But if your want to make a career conscious decsion, NUJS is the place to be. Apart from the above reasons, you have seniors, batches which have passed out to guide and mentor you.
Also, the top colleges have built a great relationship with top recruiters and that will get you top jobs.
NLU Delhi will come in such a postition, only with time. Frankly, now, picking NUJS should be an automatic choice.
Again, NLUD has potential to be in the top 5 in next 6-7 years but one can only wait and watch. When it comes to my career I would rather go for the tried and tested. :)
Cheers
Bihari Babuu30 May 2010, 16:03
The loud and clear answer is NUJS. How can you even ask a stupid question. LOL
Who will you pick in the team: Sachin Tendulkar or Ravindra Jadeja?
Ask any of the people at LST and IMS and you will get a straight answer: NUJS. I know Delhi has the potential but questions like NLUD v. some top 6-7 NLUs has to come up only after certain time.
And don’t trust people here. They might be from one of these schools and will advertise their own schools for you. Ask some one from the coaching institutes. They will guide you better.
But this question is a no-brainer. Go for NUJS.
namitjain9031 May 2010, 05:14
@Bihari Babu
Now I know that you have quite a reputation on this site as a blogger, but your last comment was certainly distasteful. I agree that NUJS is an established institution and that at present, it would be natural for someone to prefer it over NLUD. But then this question isnt as stupid or funny as suggested by you. And yeah, as a student of NLUD, I dont need to advertise my college, we are working really hard, both the students and the administration, striving to achieve the best in all respects, and I guess that is a better thing to do than to advertise ourselves. And if its such a well known fact that one shouldnt even think of joining NLUD over colleges like NLS, NALSAR or NUJS or for that matter “the top six” NLUs as u suggest, then I really wonder why a lot of people from my batch, including myself, preferred to join NLUD over these colleges. The fact that we did so suggests that students do get confused when they have a choice to make. It is not justified for you to term these queries as “stupid” or to suggest that people from NLUD like to blow their own trumpet. And yes, I have never regretted my decision of joining NLUD over NUJS, and an year back, even I posted similar queries on internet forums, and what surprises me is the fact that people like you are always ready to demean institutions which are trying to come up just because of the fact that your institution has existed for a longer time, and from this its clear who is more into advertising. A lot of factors make NLUD a good option for students, namely, infrastructure, administration, faculty, and the location. These are the very factors which drove a lot of students who were getting NLS, NALSAR and NUJS to Delhi. We even have someone in our batch who left NALSAR after a month to come to Delhi. I can happily boast of the fact that I myself chose NLUD over NUJS and there are around 25 odd people in my batch who did the same. And not to forget people who left the Jodhpurs and the Luckhnows to come here. And if all this is tantamount to advertising rather than defending one’s own choice, than I am really sorry for the lack of comprehension skills in you. And I am really appalled by the fact that someone from a college like NUJS would actually make such a naive comment on a public forum. I mean, just read your post, its so cocky to say the least. At the end of the day, its a personal choice as to which college one should join, and when advising someone, just make sure that you dont make statements which might be disrespectful to a particular lot, maybe you have been missing a lot of classes because the advertisement bit in your post certainly has an element of libel in it, if you know what I mean. Anyways, this is all I have to say, your cow rebuttals are on their way I guess, but I really have other things to cater to than randomly posting stuff on online forums. I wonder if your college is SOOOO good as you suggest, why are you even here defending your college all over these forums(I saw how you made a joke of yourself on the MPL thread). Again, I really dont care, but seriously, it pisses me off to see this country’s future legal professionals fighting over issues like these. And yeah, NUJS is definitely not the Sachin Tendulkar of law schools, that honor goes to NLS, and NLUD would be more in the league of Rohit Sharma. Try using better analogies next time.
@dn1991
I guess I have said enough. As I said, I faced a similar dilemma, I joined NLUD because I took future into consideration before making a decision. And after coming here, I have felt that NLUD gives you everything one should have at a law school, the only setback is that there is no alumni base, but we get a lot of support from the administration in order to overcome this problem. And what Legal Poet said is really appropriate. All the best!!
dn199131 May 2010, 10:07
well i’m from mumbai so the comfort of being at home is not exactly an option. i was seriously considering joining NLUD over NUJS but before letting go off a good college i really wanted to get feedback from people who r already there in the legal field. of course the above post is the only one that i have come across till now which says i can choose NLUD over NUJS but im happy there’s at least one. what deters me from joining NUJS is that i have heard about complaints of mismanagement and of course many other things which i need not mention here. so i guess going to NLUD may be a gamble but i think i’m ready to take it. i’m not totally sure but i think i wont regret it. thans a lot for all your insights. for a person like me-and i’m sure there r many out there like me-feedback of the existing students of the colleges matters a lot. so thanks a lot.
P.S: i havent closed this discussion-if anyone feels they would like to share something about either college which would make me more sure of my decision then please do post it.
dn199131 May 2010, 10:15
why i’m not really asking anyone from the coaching institutes is not that i haven’t tried it but many of them are either from one of these colleges which gives them the scope to advertise or they could be totally outside the actual legal field. most of the teachers who teach logical, english or maths-they’re not even connected with the legal field so that’s y i resorted to this asking on the net. and end of the day it’s what my heart says that i’m gonna follow but i want to make sure that im making a conscious decision. present students especially those who actually did choose to go to NLUD even though they had qualified in the much established NALSAR or NUJS, could tell me what their reason was for the choice. so asking on the net isn’t exactly the worst thing to do. so thanks a lot once again for all the insights.
dn199131 May 2010, 10:17
@namitjain90-
since u r a student at NLUD now could u tell me something about hostels and the grounds and all. are they still under construction or are the basics there and only additions remain to be done? what is it like?
AnonymousLLB31 May 2010, 11:07
Close your eyes and go to NUJS.
NUJS is a brand name
NLUD, a brand name in the making.
AnonymousLLB31 May 2010, 11:27
Well i could just give you a comparative analysis
1. FACULTY
NUJS- the best faculty in the NLU circuit right now without doubt..for reference see their faculty profiles and faculty research page
NLUD- on an average decent
2. INFRASTRUCTURE
NUJS- gr location…having a small campus but a great library and a 600 seater auditorium..2 modern seminar halls..projectors in all classrooms…has a tie up with neighbouring sports authority of india’s campus for all sorts of sports facilities..plus it is building a basketball and badminton court in the campus itself
NLUD- much better than NUJS except the library because it is still in the process of adding books and journals…over time the library will be gr8
3. STUDENTS
NUJS- one of the best
NLUD- comparable to NUJS or a notch slightly lower
4. HOSTELS and MESS
NUJS- decent hostels with single and double room occupancy…the mess food is probably the best serving everything from chichken biryani, rajma chawal, continental, baked beans, fruits, milk-everything that a student can ask for
NLUD- the hostel looks better because it is new…the mess is decent
5. REPUTATION
NUJS-gr8
NLUD- hasnt made much till now but doing so…in fact many lawyers in delhi are yet to know about it
6. JOBS
NUJS- gr8 recruitment including presence of london magic circle and silver firms
NLUD- yet to graduate
7. FACULTY and STUDENT RESEARCH
NUJS- the best in the NLU circuit right now
NLUD- not commendable
Hope this comparative analysis helps..I have not defamed any university or given my opinion..Just a comparative fact sheet
LegalPoet31 May 2010, 12:03
@law aspirant who started this thread
Frankly no one should prefer NLUD over the top 5.
And I also agree with the above ‘analysis’. Except for infrastructure NLUD isn’t ahead of NUJS (presently) in any department.
If you are not from Delhi or have no great reason to stay in Delhi, NUJS should be an automatic choice.
You said you have read about ‘mismanagement’ issues. If you have read them here, on orkut or facebook; the first and the foremost thing you should do is ignore and overlook them.
Poeple love anonymous commenting and maligning other law schools. Do not be astrayed by such commenters.
Secondly, let me tell you how ‘management’ at NUSJ runs. NUJS is managed by its ‘students’. All the work in ‘committees’ and ‘societes’ is done by students; of course with faculty assistance and super-vision.
I must tell you that such responsibilites do you a lot of favour. On a larger level it develops your entrepreneurial skills. And look how entrepreneurism is flourshing at NUJS.
You have RDA Legal, a law firm managed by NUJS graduates.
You have Ashish Arun (24) starting his own LPO, when students at other colleges think of a job at an LPO.
Ramanuj with his CLAT hacker and all.
You must also have read about NUJS’s placements…we have had top notch placements…Amarchand prolly took the highest no. of students (12)…and look at the moot performance…how NUJS turned the tables…easily the best performer in international moots.
And yes, as of today we have the best faculty among NLUs- over the last years we have hired two NALSAR students, a rhodes scholar from NLSIU, an ISIL director…the quality of faculty is fantastic vis-a-vis other law schools. The bad teachers are being shown the door (do they still exist, very much so). :)
Just google these guys: Shamand Basheer, Manoj Kumar Sinha, Pritam Baruah, Prabash Ranjan, Sudhir Krishnaswamy, MP Singh and you’ll know what I mean to say.
So once again, let me say in no uncertain terms: Opt for NUJS. Go for NLUD only if you love Delhi so much that you can’t live without Delhi.
And yes…read the above analysis. Its blunt, but true.
False News With Balls31 May 2010, 13:40
OK…Abhas Singh (LST Head, NLSIU graduate) commented this on LST’s Facebook page when asked about NLUD v. NUJS.
“NUJS”.
(We can expect Abhas, being an LST head to know about law schools inside out,and as an NLSIU student to give an objective stand).
I hope that debate is over. (A silly one really…NLUD is just a two year old kid…a healthy one…but just a kid…let her grow and then see).
NUJS is a huge flourishing giant with international repute.
Without battling an eyelid. Go for it.
durga.priya31 May 2010, 20:11
I face the same dilemma and this thread has helped me make my choice- I will be choosing NUJS over NLU-Delhi for the various reasons stated above. Perhaps, if I was faced with this decision 10 years down the line, it might have been different.
Vikramaditya1 Jun 2010, 00:14
@Namit: You said enough and there is nothing left brother.
Those who want to go NUJS definitely they are right in doing so at the moment but we are sure that we will be there soon or even far beyond that position
proficient1 Jun 2010, 15:32
@ Vikramaditya: Very true ! but then we must need to save our University from decimation by these “Learned Amigos”, who on the pretext of guiding a person are in fact leading them to make wrong choices, in the name of glorifying their own institutions.
@ Namit: Well said Brother, I can vouchsafe on every single word of yours.
@ Everybody : I wouldn’t have come on this forum just to make some crude remarks against any university in particular. But I desist from the idea of pulverizing the name of any esteemed institution by such remarks. I believe we are all members of the legal fraternity and are the harbingers of the new generation of Legal Resource Professionals. However, as has been propounded in some earlier posts, I do not find the coaching institutions being cited as an authority of demarcation of various Law universities on the basis of the preferences of individuals.
The comments that I would make in my subsequent posts shall not be construed to being pejorative against any institution, however the remarks that have been enunciated above shall be effectively addressed.
In the next post, I shall be bringing out a clear picture by refuting the analogy made by my learned brother.
What I do believe is in the fact that it is the Students who build the Institutions and this is determined by the quality of students being admitted in any law school.
The adage “Even donkeys reside in Jerusalem” holds true for every law school. It is up to the individual calibre of every student to make his name. The institution gives you the requisite platform to make your dreams come alive.
Now, there have been 80 selections in NLUD for the academic year 2009, of which almost 60 students have made it to esteemed institutions such as NLSIU Bangalore, NALSAR, NUJS, NLIU and NLUJ. More so, people residing in various law colleges and other national law universities have prepared for the entrance examinations to make it to NLUD.
We must endorse the view that we live in the age of Globalization and are therefore not influenced by medieval dictums. The locational advantage that Delhi enjoys transcends any asset bestowed on any other NLU’s.
On an average, there are 10 to 15 students who readily intern with the Supreme Court, NALSA, NCW, CAT,etc in the very first semester.
Amarchand Mangaldas, Luthra, Khaitan, Wadhwa, etc have been our associate partners in more than 4 National Conferences organized in the auspices of the National Law University Delhi
The presence of dignatories such as Her Excellency The President of India, The Honourable Prime Minister of India, The Honourable HRD Minister, MR. Kapil Sibbal, The Honourable law Minister Mr. M. Veerappa Moilly, The entire collegium of Judges of the Supreme Court and those of various High Courts further stands as a testimony to the veracity of my statement. We work in collaboration with the Bar Council of India organizing various national and International Conferences. Signed the highest number of MoU’s as compared to any other Law university in India.
Moreover, on a rather historical perspective, any professional institute whether it be AIIMS or IITs were in their first years, especially when there were various esteemed colleges such as IIT Kharagpur, IIT Roorkie or PGI Lucknow, Chandigarh, AFMC Pune etc, but within three years of its inception, both the colleges are looked upon as the best choice in unanimity.
Assuming some of the contentions proposed by my learned brothers to be true, that NLUD is a “healthy kid” which would take almost 5 to 6 years in order to emerge out as the Achilles in the battlefield, I would like to raise a very innocent question to those who are taking admissions : If you enter an institution in 2010, u are likely to graduate by 2014 or 2015 {keeping all contingencies constant} by the time, NLUD will be amongst the forerunners of the legal market. So when will u make the best use of the name of your college, obviously when u need a good package, and by the time u graduate, the alleged gestation period will be complete. So when u graduate, u will automatically be the student of one of the best law schools at that time
Moreover with Professors and Eminent Politician cum Lawyers taking classes for us in the next semesters,I can surely rely that this would act as a catalyst in the recognition and reputation of our University. Somer potent instances include : Dr. Arun Jaitley, { the former Law Minister of India}, Dr. Abhishek Manu Singhvi, {Noted Lawyer and Spokesperson of Congress}, Dr. Upendra Baxi, Professor Madhava Menon{Visitng}, Professor Mitra{Visiting}, Professor Dr. B.B. Pandey,{visiting} and you can google any one of them in order to clear your doubts.
There was also a question made on the Researching Skills, the library and the faculty of our institution. to which i shall be replying shortly in my subsequent posts.
False News With Balls1 Jun 2010, 17:35
LOLOLOLOL
Nice name dropping mate. Is everyone of your faculty visiting? Hehehehe.
And can you name those 60 students who chose NLUD over the top 5?
Even if they did, I know all will be from Delhi or nearby places. They preferred Delhi as a place not NLUD as an institution. They preferred Delhi coz they have their parents, family and friends there. Just like a rank 8 in CLAT preferred NUJS over NLSIU. Hometowns attract.
And talking about internships…your assumptions are laughable. People from anywhere can get internships anywhere if they can prove their worth. Its simple. Being in Delhi or any other place is of no help.
I mean if I want to intern at law commission, delhi I can apply to law commission sitting at any top law school in the country. How does being in delhi help?
And can’t you get it…Abhas Singh who is LST’s head and from NLSIU (more objective and informed than anyone can ever be)…says to a query on FB…to prefer NUJS over NLUD coz NUJS is the more established.
Please stop advertising your college here and making a mockery out of yourself. Your faculty is just being recruited and for now very average, you haven’t had placements…what has NLUD done to make such tall claims????
Guys! Beware of such advertisers! Trust nobody on such anonymous forums. Not even me. Not even LegalPoet coz he is from NUJS. And not Bihari Babuu at all. :)
dn19911 Jun 2010, 22:29
thank you all for your valuable suggestions and information about the quality of your faculty, internships, etc. i have decided to join NLU delhi. and like i specified in one of my earlier posts, i’m from mumbai. so staying at home or hometown is not my criteria for choosing a college. i’m choosing nlu delhi for NLU delhi and not just for delhi alone. not many people support me in my decision but i’m sure i wont regret it. once again a big thank you to all of you. im sure all those who posted on this thread were trying to just help me and no one had any agenda to advertise their own college. so let there be no ill feeling about that against anyone.
regards.
AnonymousLLB1 Jun 2010, 22:55
@people from nujs- Oops…if i read it correctly, he’s joining delhi.
AnonymousLLB2 Jun 2010, 00:41

dn19912 Jun 2010, 00:57
@abhimanyu singh- that would be a she’s joining delhi. :)
amd
@anonymous- thank you. i’m looking forward to it!
namitjain902 Jun 2010, 04:53
@dn1991
Regarding your earlier query, the hostels and other buildings are already in place, most of the construction work in the university is complete except for staff quarters. And regarding sports facilities, the club house is complete and it will house a gym, a swimming pool, etc. But the grounds will take some time as the land that has been allotted is still being revamped. And yes, welcome to NLUD!
@ false news
You asked Proficient to name the 60 odd people who preferred NLUD over other colleges. Well, you can count me in, and I am not from Delhi, not even from somewhere around Delhi, and for others I would urge you to check the first list of selected candidates of NUJS in CLAT-09, ask any of your juniors, they must be having it, and as you said most people chose NLUD for the location rather than the institution it is, I chose it only because it appealed to me more as an institution than NUJS. And again, as I said earlier, I am just defending my stance, just like you think you have the right to post whatever you want on this forum, even I am justified in explaining why I chose NLUD over NUJS to someone who has asked what she should do?
And your lack of comprehension amuses me, one of my batch mates in his last post only brought forward the point that NLUD has an internship system in place wherein students are provided with internships at some of the leading institutions in Delhi, now, if such a system is in place then its obviously a good thing, and NLUD enjoys the support of both the Supreme Court and the High Court Bar in Delhi and I fail to understand why one shouldnt make others aware of this advantage when someone has a decision to make. While providing this information, nobody is being brain washed to come to Delhi, its only to help them weigh down their prospects and then arrive at a decision.
I did not question the brand value of NUJS, its for everyone to see, but that wont deter me from bringing forward the positive aspects of my college. And yes, whatever the LST head says is not the final word, I consulted a NALSAR and an NLIU graduate before deciding between NLUD and NUJS, and both of them suggested me to go for Delhi, and the reason given by the NALSAR graduate was that Delhi offers me a secure future because Dr. Ranbir Singh, the VC, is in the league of Prof. Menon when it comes to institution building, and with the support of the legal fraternity from Delhi, and the government, there is no reason as to why Delhi would be a failure when its first batch graduates. And this is the very reason I chose Delhi. So, if you have serious reservations about the potential of Delhi, then so be it. Your personal opinion wont stop others from sharing their opinion, even if you feel that it is tantamount to advertising.
And yes, Prof. Baxi, Prof. B.B Pandey, Prof. Mitra, Prof. Mark Galenter are a part of the visiting faculty of NLUD. And Prof. Baxi is even supervising a blueprint on the prevention of terrorism that is being prepared by students of NLUD. And about our faculty, I would suggest anyone who doubts the competency of our faculty to check their profiles on our website and then comment.
As far as the library is concerned, we have everything that a law school needs, some 23,000 books are already there in a three storied building which houses the university library. And our performance in moot courts has been commendable, its for everyone to see, we have done extraordinarily well for a two year old institution.
I hope all this goes down well with you, as I already said, I really respect your university as an institution, I have a lot of friends out there, but there are people who like to take the road less traveled, and I am here only to justify why I made that choice, so that it can be of help to someone else facing the same dilemma.
AnonymousLLB2 Jun 2010, 12:00
I dont know why students of NLUD are always advertising about their University on any forum there is, be it lst or facebook or orkut or legallyindia. Have you ever seen NLS or NALSAR students beat the trumpet about theirs. Relax and sit back, if your place is a good as you claim it to be ppl will come their irrespective.
Having Ranbir Singh is not enough. Prof. Menon helped establish NLS in 1998 and went on to start NUJS in 1999. Although NUJS climed to become a top law school did it ever beat NLS? Meaning your claim to fame might not actually work.
NLUD has some 13-14 law Universities to compete with and not one or two as might have been the case with NUJS or NALSAR. So again do your bit and chill, prospective students will come.
Also i agree on the part that a lot of ppl flocked to Delhi as most of them were from Delhi and they preferred studying in Delhi than any other place. Most of the ppl in the 2nd and 1st year are from Delhi. No one would like to leave the comfort of home to go study somewhere else.
And what exactly mean NLUD has the “support of the HC and SC bar” Like the other law schools have been ousted and NLUD is the center of the univrese. Like I said Relax, all the National Law Universities have the support of their Respective state HCs and bar associations. It is not a big deal.
Also NLUD has (a long list of names, which we are supposed to google). All the colleges have such big names of guest lecturers and visiting faculty . To prove my thesis please refer to the websites of Amity, Jindal and Symbiosis. You will see equally big if not bigger names there. And dont let me get started on NLS and NALSAR.
Most of the students coming to NLS and NALSAR have also been selected in NLUD. A lone exception is that kid who dropped out of NALSAR after a month to go to Delhi. For the uninformed the only reason he did that was because he got upgraded to NLUD in the fourth list or something and as soon as that happened (which is after a month the NALSAR session started) he being a Delhite (Dipsite or springdales, i dont remember) was more than happy to run back home and get cozy. The thought of leaving home is not acceptable to all.
As far as infrastructure is concerned the more new a law school the better the infrastructure. This is common knowledge. RMLNLU, Jindal and others have awesome campuses and libraries much better than NLSIU. Does that matter in any manner?
The arguments by “False News with Balls” are quite correct in this forum.
Disclaimer- I can vouch for the above information realating to NLS and NALSAR.
AnonymousLLB2 Jun 2010, 14:17
i beg to point out; a lot of your batch didnt make it to any other college.
AnonymousLLB2 Jun 2010, 18:08
i have heard that a guy from NLUD took the clat again. Is it true?
Is NLUD all flashy and nice but less substance?
AnonymousLLB2 Jun 2010, 18:15
Seems to me the ppl from NLUD are very insecure about their college, judging by their posts.
AnonymousLLB3 Jun 2010, 00:26
Ok Kid.
I’m from NLU, J.
Dont get misguided by either facebook or India Today or shit like that.
These kids from NLUD aren’t mis-guiding you, they are simply doing it in the “college spirit”, just like when I was a kid I would fight with others that my bus was better than theirs, even though I knew that was not the case.
NUJS is an excellent law school, EXCELLENT. I’m not even from there, but its excellent and I know that, especially since I’m in the grid and I have nothing to gain from this whole thing. Although may I remind you I especially joined this forum to help you make the right decision.
And as far as them saying that people have left NLU,J for NLUD. Let me clear the picture for you on that as I personally know the person in question. The person in question left Jodhpur for many reasons, the least of all being academic. He’s from delhi and would visit his parents five times a sem, if you’re that kind, join Mithibai college in Vile Parle, it’ll be the best for you.
I’m presently interning in AZB & Partners—which you wouldn’t have heard about right now, but let me assure you, its a firm you’ll try hard to join…HARD—and the number of NUJS students interning in their office is a lot! Which indicates quality.
If you must judge—and you mustn’t— on mooting skills, then the mooting achievements of NUJS are legendary. Its always one of the teams to beat. See the MPL table on this site, it’ll give you an indication. If I’m not mistaken, its the only Indian Law School to have won the William C Vis Moot Court Competition.
Lastly, I’ve specifically joined this forum so that you might not commit the error which you seem bent on committing. So re-consider your judgment. For your own good.
(BTW, there’s this girl I know of who left NALSAR for ILS, simply because India Today ranked it higher than NALSAR that one particular year. The last time I heard, she wasn’t proud of her decision.)
If the debate was on whether to go for NUJS or NALSAR, it might’ve been “fun”, however, when the debate is over NUJS or NLUD, its a plain waste of time.
I’ve tried, if you still want to commit the stupidity of choosing NLUD, then by all means do so, since I can imagine you “welcome” to NUJS now!!! :D
draconion3 Jun 2010, 00:34
I quote Namin-some-thing:
“And our performance in moot courts has been commendable, its for everyone to see, we have done extraordinarily well for a two year old institution.”
DO YOU READ THE POSTS BY OTHERS???
DO YOU??
DO YOU REALLY?
This is exactly what everyone’s been saying.
If you made a choice of joining NLUD over NUJS, dont advertise it till you’ve got a 15L job at a tier 1 law firm. Period.
aayush1990sri3 Jun 2010, 01:44
Your decision should logically depend on, 1. What kinda person your are- competitive, fun-loving, hard-working etc.?, 2. What is it that you want after 5 years of law school- LLM aborad, UK law firm, Indian Law firm, the bar etc.?
Now based on these parameters, i will make an attempt to give you an un-biased opinion. I don’t claim to be an authority on law colleges, and all my opinions are based hearsay evidence from my friends in law schools, and the decisions i myself factored in. For your ref.- I made it to NLU-J in the first list and NUJS in the second. I chose NLUD, and yes one of the consideration was that i stay in Delhi. Right, now you are concerned with what are the OTHER reasons.
Why NOT to join NLU delhi?
1. Only two batches above you- No seniors who have won Jessup, Stetsons, Manfred Lachs etc. or any of the big moots to guide you, train you etc. Similar logic applies to debates, research papers etc. We have been very promising at Moots-beating the best in their own game, despite being alteast 3 years juniors to them.[please refer to www.nludelhi.ac.in\] all based on sheer hard-work, determination and pure talent. If you are one who likes to be lead than lead, NLU Delhi is not the place for you.
2. No alumni network- It is common knowledge that most of the Partners in law firms today are from one of these colleges-NUJS,NLS or NALSAR. It is very likely that they recruit students from their alma-mater than an un-tested new college, and the same applies for promotions later in your career. Infact, there aren’t many UK law firms that even know about NLU D. Herbert Smith a magic circle law firm, organised an essay competition just for students of-NLS, NALSAR, NUJS, NLUJ or NLIU Bhopal. I guess this is sufficient illustration to prove my point. If you wanna get an assured job, even with an average GPA, with an average pay package, NLU delhi is not the place for you. If you would rather wear BRANDED clothes-tried and tested, over something that suits your needs, desires and aspirations, NLUD is definetly not the place for you.
3. Opportunities- The environment here is very competitive, The fact that there are only two batches competing for all the moots and debates, creates a lot of pressure an even average performer to do a moot every Semester and atleast make an effort to do well(Supply/Demand). In NUJS, you will get enough time to test waters and then do a moot in your 3rd, 4th years. If you are one who doesn’t like extreme competition, who doesn’t want pressure and lots of exposure right from your first semester, do not even think about coming to NLU Delhi.
4. Freedom and Environment- If you would prefer, a curfew of 2AM in the night, a swanky mall and disco at a walking distance from college, being in the heart of the city, in short, if you are a real party animal, definetly go to NUJS. Booze flows freely inside and outside college, and so does the other vices. Here, we have outside curfews of 6PM(yes, 8 hours before our NUJS counter-parts) and we have to be in Hostel by 9PM-except you can be in the library till 11PM(NUJS has not such limits). We only have our occassional fun, during our end-sem parties etc. So if you rather do a night out than slog in the library, NLU Delhi is definetly not the place for you
5. Internships- You can proceed on the assumption that you will get an internship-law firm, NGO, advocates, sitting on your ass, if you are in NUJS, because of the brand name. But ofcourse you will be competing against 13 other NLSs and numerous other govt. and private colleges for the same internship. Our entire academic calendar starts 1 month later than all law schools. That means that when our vacations start, other law schools starts, leaving vacancies which is to be filled by only 1 law school. I m sure you can do the economics(supply demand). If you are one who would rather bank upon your extremely strong CV, to land you an internship over NLS or NALSAR students, and you don’t like an assured internship whereever you want, by all means don’t come to NLUD.
In short, take this as investment in the stock market and not a gamble. You would be a fool to not invest in gaints like Lehman Brothers, AIG, Merill Lynch etc.. Or would you be?

Dear Aspirant(s),
It is amazing how you would let unknown strangers (me included), guide you about a decision which will alter your life significantly. This is a call you should be taking yourself. Taking advice is not a bad idea, but following it merely because it was given would be a folly. Whether you go to NUJS or NLUD, the fact of the matter remains, it’s your choice. However, weigh certain criterion and the winner on those criteria should be your choice.
Probably the most important criteria is placement. That is one idea that every student enters a law school with. Everybody it seems wants a good placement. Now let’s see objectively. Which law school has the best placement in India? National Law School India University, Bangalore. It is probably followed by NALSAR. The reason for this is very simple. An urban teaching environment, coupled with presence of law firms in the same city, coupled with regular interaction is much more likely to grow into a job prospect. There is a reason why Gandhinagar and Raipur do not have the best placement. The reason being, that they are not the centers of power, and power flows from the center. Which is why Delhi provides a great opportunity to engage with law firms as well as litigators. Alas Bombay doesn’t have a law school or indeed the opportunity would have been the same. But Kolkata cannot hope to match Delhi or Bombay. However, if your looking for sure shot records of placement, by all means go to an established institution, but on that standard no student would have gone to NLSIU in it’s first year. When you take risks you may be rewarded. When you take calculated risks, you should be rewarded. But when you bank on innovation as well as infrastructure as well center of power and the hub of interconnectedness, then you will be rewarded.
Secondly, most people focus on faculty. NUJS obviously have a great faculty. However, it is unfair to analyze the faculty of NUJS (the best ones) with the whole faculty of NLUD. Just look at the Professors of NLUD. Prof. (Dr.) Ranbir Singh - there is hardly a need to elucidate on his CV and skills considering he made NALSAR what it is today. Prof. (Dr.) Amar Singh - who has been a Dean while he was in NLU Jodhpur (for other details refer to NLUD website). Prof. (Dr.) Anju Vali Tikoo - 20 years of teaching at Campus Law Centre, Delhi, the foremost institution of law, before NLSIU took over. Prof. (Dr.) Radha Seshan - visiting scholar at Yale University. Now these are the Professor who are currently teaching in NLUD. Obviously as time progress, more will be hired. As the second years move into the third where they will be exposed to constitutional law, the University has already gotten Prof. (Dr.) Upendra Baxi on board. This is the man who delivers guest lectures in all Indian National Law Schools - NUJS included. Alongwith him, NLUD will have Dr. Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Mr. Arun Jaitley as visiting professors. Both of them are renowned litigators. Now what could be the reason that so many renowned people are backing this institution to the hilt. There obviously has to be some merit in the name that they are so committing themselves to. Why would Prof. (Dr.) Ranbir Singh leave NALSAR, a well established institution and definitely ahead of NUJS, to come to Delhi. And why would someone who was Dean in NLU Jodhpur leave to come and teach Contract Law to students of the second and third semesters. It is also beyond me to see why would Prof. (Dr.) Baxi who is Professor Emeritus at Warwick and holds a Chair in NLSIU, come and teach constitutional law to student of a so called fledgling institution. It’s not as if he has a dearth of offers and I am sure NUJS unsuccessfully made one. Also let’s consider Dr. Singhvi and Mr. Jaitley. Why attach themselves to this new institution? They can very well go teach in NLSIU or any other college if they are so desperate to teach. This is where, NLU or NLS doesn’t matter. This is where Delhi matters. Being Delhi helps you attract the right kind of people at the right time. So if people with a name can trust NLUD to become what they are hoping it to be, then I am sure you can too.
Infrastructure also matters a lot. It is extremely essential that the place where you live in is comfortable and conducive to academics. Now considering the classes of NUJS (some that I saw while I was debating there) didn’t have air-conditioning (this after Kolkata’s humid weather) and are still using slide-projectors instead of the digital ones, it’s hard to see the infrastructure. NLUD on the other hand is obviously new and has spent well. The academic block is fully air-conditioned with state-of-the-art facilities. The hostel also is new and thus, obviously better. It is also great to see that the administration is really concerned about the student’s welfare (Delhi heat) and have installed air-conditioners in the canteen. There is hope that Hostels will soon be air-conditioned too. In terms of outside college, NLUD is in Dwarka, connected by metro to CP (40 minutes). However, the infrastructure of Delhi obviously is better than that of Kolkata. Regardless of the fact that it would take you 25 minutes in a cab to reach Park Street from Salt Lake City, Park Street with the wonderful Oxford Book Store cannot match Connaught Place and it’s surroundings. Coming back inside college, the library is state-of-the-art. A five crore venture so far, a huge part coming from a donation from Justice T.P.S. Chawla’s family (former Judge, Delhi High Court) is brand new and air conditioned. Complete with an internet centre and a vast collection of books. Those who understand books, can go check on the internet. The library possesses all books of the Common Law Library, All England Reports (the whole collection), All India Reports (whole collection) American Jurisprudence, Corpus Juris, Harvard Law Review (whole collection), Commonwealth Law Reports, Halsbury Laws of India and England respectively plus a whole lot of other collections pertaining to arbitration etc.of whose name I can’t recollect. The library is obviously doing very well with all the money that is being spent on it. Databases are the same usual - Westlaw, Manupatra, Hein Online, JSTOR, SCC etc. However, they are accesible in rooms, because NLUD has an IP license unlike NUJS, where it is accessible only in the library. Lastly, infrastructure is highly dependent on the budget of a university. NLUD has a budget of Rs. 110 crores over five years (sanctioned) plus the word of Mrs. Sheila Dikshit as to as much more as required to make NLUD the best. I wonder if Buddhadeb and his Red Brigade have committed likewise to NUJS or for that matter any government to any law college. I guess being Delhi has some perks considering the state’s own budget.
Lastly, the mooting scene. Kudos to NUJS for it’s amazing performance this year. They have indeed done well (60 some points on the MPL). However, if you are a rational person, you will understand that NUJS sends experienced mooters to moots (generally fourth and fifth years) and does well. NLUD is a new institution and thus herein lies the opportunities. You not only get to moot at a much younger age, considering there are only two batches yet. Also NLUD’s moot record isn’t all that bad for such a new institution. We began by reaching the semi-finals of M.M. Singhvi (flagship moot of NLU Jodhpur, with almost participation of 50 teams), then reached the quarter-finals of K.K. Luthra (organised by Luthra and Luthra), reached semi-finals of Stetsons (North) and won D.M. Harish International Law Moot Court Competition. Considering that NLUD has participated only in 11 moots so far, and has won one, been runners-up once, reached semis twice, quarters once, its not all that bad for a new college. And with a year of mooting ahead, where NLUD is participating in atleast 10 moots, I am sure more wins shall follow. There are other activities also, like debating etc. Go wherever you want to, and then see the debating scene. As far as Delhi is concerned they seem to have done pretty well, being runners up in IIT Madras, IIT Roorkee and Christ College and breaking in NUJS itself. Papers and all are written everywhere and depends more on the individual and how good the library he is using is.
With all that said, I hope you make an considered choice. Think of what you want. Contemplate whatever you read above and make a life for yourself. Best of luck.
The author is a student of National Law University, Delhi.
AnonymousLLB3 Jun 2010, 03:51
@Pacman, Maybe a lot of law has rusted your counting but those advertising NUJS, including you, far outnumber the students from NLUD. I wonder who is insecure. I suppose I should ask the 4 sheets of paper on the main notice board of NUJS which still advertise the names of their first list selected candidates from last time, yes I have seen that list, yes my name is on it-right on top along with several others- around 25 of us, and yes all of us left NUJS to come to DELHI and for you enlightenment, only 10 of those names are of people who actually live in Delhi. It’s those empty seats filled by lower ranks that bother you isn’t it? Well…So much for your insecurities. We know now why you so desperately seek for your college to redeem itself. I for one am from Hyderabad which is very very very far away from Delhi. I for one had a decent enough rank to get upgraded to NALSAR in the third list, which is home. I for one still chose Delhi and I’m glad I did unlike the “supposed” lady who left NLSIU for ILS(@DONT BE STUPID KID. dont!! don’t be stupid kid!!! I think you should rather use your concoctions to drive yourself to sleep) because I know I made the right choice and I’ll tell you why. And yes, a student from NLUD did write CLAT again. You know why? Cause he has chances of dropping out. Last time he didn’t qualify CLAT and only just made it here. And one year of our allegedly “less able” faculty made him qualify NLSIU this time and he is probably going leave us for Bangalore. So much for your smugness “Guest”.
This wasn’t supposed turn out like this, but attempted sliming and wisecracks from our “elderly” NUJS folk have forced this upon themselves. This was supposed to be objective advice for people who had to choose between NUJS and NLUD not a forum for NUJS students to try getting their own back. We’re sorry we left your college, we sincerely are. I agree NUJS is an excellent college, I’m not even from there and yet I agree. Only NLUD is better and which is why I’m here, and not there. I hardly need to say anything about faculty or infrastructure after what my colleague has already stated above, which is not only an extremely accurate assessment of why Delhi as a place itself adds a high brand value to the name of NLUD, which added to an institute building calibre of Prof. Ranbir Singh, who in “5 years time” built NALSAR to give NLSIU a run for its money; enough to ensure brilliant placements for our first batch which is why you don’t need to be a 6+ year old law school to be a repository of faith for a student looking for a future in law. We haven’t had years to build our faculty or out institute. It is only our second year that is now concluding. When NALSAR was instituted, its first couple of months were spent in a guest house and only post its first year did it have a campus to talk of. Look where Prof. Singh took NALSAR in 5 years. I choose NALSAR as standard for comparison because it alone is a standing example of an institute which did not have the advantage of an established reputation and yet rose to not only catch up with its predecessors but also decisively best them. Im sure similar arguments were presented when people chose to be a part of NALSAR. Those students who took the safer bet and did not pick NALSAR when it was a Start-up university must feel sorry for themselves now. Those who took the plunge reaped their reward with extremely lucrative placements. We as an institution have started with the advantage of being in Delhi, established infrastructure and Technical Support in the form of a brilliant teaching staff as it stands, affiliations and MOU’s in place for better future prospects, Provisions for more than satisfactory internships for students in place as stated by my colleagues above and I needn’t go into the list again and we have the same person to take us forward who made NALSAR reach the heights it has in such a short while. I do not give you arguments. Merely state facts which are already present before you. Yes, we have only a single batch of seniors before us. We do not have too much guidance for moots. But in comparison we don’t need to wait till our fourth year to go for a moot. We hardly need to be taught mooting over the first three years to go for our first professional moot in the fourth. We learn from experience. Our first years partook in singhvi, luthra and surana and surana and did extremely well for themselves. I personally look forward to coming across NUJS at DM Harish since I’m already going there. I won’t do one or two moots I’m my five years of law school as I would in NUJS. I would get a chance to do much more and conclusively gain much more firsthand experience in mooting rather than just hear about it. The same holds true for parliamentary debating as well. I’ve interned at the NUJS library. And I must say, your literature section is better than ours (when I go to a LAW library that is NOT what I’m looking for) But apart from that our library far supersedes yours, both in quality and in quantity. Those who need to choose, well the cards are on the table, make your choice. Unlike NUJS, NLUD does not have a past placements for you to rely on, granted, on that you do make a gamble..but a gamble which is most certainly going to pay off due to aforementioned reasons. Now I’ll just wait for some more students from NUJS to resume at their petty attempts, however unsuccessful they may be, just as they were last year.
draconion3 Jun 2010, 11:40
kar le join NLUD yaar. Kar le. If that gives you happiness, then do it.
Secondly, the curfews which these kids speak of with pride…let me demystify them for you.
When you will realize that these are about the last five years of your life when you can party like crazy, when you can booze, smoke and do everything under the sun. You’ll realize these deadlines they speak of ARE NOT fun. AND FUN IS AN INTEGRAL PART OF COLLEGE LIFE.
Lastly, one requires seniors in law schools. Their importance can never be emphasized enough.
PS: “I think you should rather use your concoctions to drive yourself to sleep”--- are you stoned man?
AnonymousLLB3 Jun 2010, 13:18
Fact 1: NALSAR had only one competitor when it was established in 1998. NLUD has 13.
Fact2: Ranbir Singh was with NALSAR for 10 years and not five as stated by my dear Rahul Seth. A lot of ppl know it is a matter of time when Ranbir leaves the college for Rajya Sabha or something else. He has already been appointed in the Telangana Committee. He will stay long enough to make sure the first batch passes out.
Fact3: Human life is a phase. It comes and goes. With all due respect your registrar who was also a major influence in the NALSAR success story, passed away recently(May his soul rest in peace). You are not assured of life long support of Ranbir Singh.
Fact 4: Prof. Menon helped establish NLS in 1998 and went on to start NUJS in 1999. Although NUJS climed to become a top law school did it ever beat NLS? Meaning your claim to fame might not actually work.
Fact 5: All the colleges have big names of guest lecturers and visiting faculty. One off lecture in a semester wont help you much, thats the reason they are called “Guest lectures”. To further prove my thesis please refer to the websites of Amity, Jindal and Symbiosis. You will see equally big if not bigger names there. And dont let me get started on NLS and NALSAR.
Fact 5 : @aayush1990sri: Dont even talk about competition in NLS, NALSAR and NUJS kiddo. You have no idea what it is like out there.
And my friend Rahul Seth: Are you daft? My line clearly says I can vouch for the above information regarding NLS and NALSAR and you came to the conclusion I am from NUJS. You have issues my friend. I suggest you meet the Counsellor in NLUD and get your power of comprehension checked. See this is what happens when you go to NLUD.
@All NLUD students: It seems to me like you have put a notice on your Notice Board asking all your students to attack this thread with write ups more than 100 words.
aayush1990sri3 Jun 2010, 14:47
@Pacman(Fact-5)= Of course sir, and with all due respect, i m fully aware of the chain smokers, drug addicts, and boozers that these top colleges boast of courtsey, the very same cut-throat competition that makes stress reach astronomical heights leaving no other option to even the best of the students. Of course, my two best friends in 2 of these colleges can be wrong about their own college, and so can be the Justice Thomas Report on subtance abuse in NLSs.
kianganz3 Jun 2010, 14:50
Is there really such a report or am I being gullible? If so, do you have a copy?
Kian
AnonymousLLB3 Jun 2010, 15:29
it would be wonderful if you could post a link to the said report … competition is an important tool in realizing your own potential and there always will be a few black sheep who turn to such alternatives but if this becomes a trend then we have some trouble on our hands . i have seen these allegations on various threads but never have they been validated or their severity been explicitly expressed . if you could provide some proof or in depth analysis then i believe it will be more useful to us than all the nlud/nujs slugfest combined …
AnonymousLLB3 Jun 2010, 15:33
the only justice Thomas report i could find seems irrelevant to your assertion.

i realise that all of you love your colleges and feel offended at criticism which you consider unfounded but in case you have forgotten there are many prospective students who wittingly or unwittingly make a choice which will have an inestimably immense impact on their lives based on what you write here … it may not be the sole factor but it surely affects their way of thinking . in massaging your or your institutions’ egos do not forget you are enacting the role of a mentor here . . .your ego is not worth innocent lives.
this is not a generalisation . there are many posters who are helping us considerably and we are grateful to them . but to others , don’t say anything you are not prepared to back up by facts . don’t turn this into my d**k is bigger than your d**k because we don’t want to see either of your reproductive protrusions …

AnonymousLLB3 Jun 2010, 15:49
aayush1990sri: My dear friend, where ever students stay away from home there will be cases like the ones you just mentioned, or you imply that in NLUD NO ONE SMOKES OR DRINKS. I find that a little difficult to believe. Competition drives students to such things but IT IS NOT THE ONLY FACTOR. Other reasons include peer pressure, portrayal of oneself as cool etc. This is another debate in itself.
Going by your logic- “that people smoke and drink because of competition”, that ways, all the smokers and drinkers should be toppers, in all colleges. This is not the case, is it so?
Also other good colleges like all the IITs and IIMs also have compulsory residence for its students. There also people indulge in all the above mentioned activities, do you see someone refusing to go to IIT- Delhi because “people smoke there”.
Or is IIM-Ahmedabad image being tarnished because the future managers of he country drink! (Even though Gujrat is a dry state)
aayush1990sri: Doing all the vices is a personal choice, You can always say no. Think logically man.
AnonymousLLB3 Jun 2010, 15:54
exactly pacman … .
the way it is being portrayed it appears as if doing drugs is a campus culture in NLS NALSAR etc . . .i cannot believe that can be the case so if you make an allegation, back it up .
AnonymousLLB4 Jun 2010, 14:54
how much time you all have got to write this much!!!
in nls and nalsar even in nujs ppl dnt have time to breathe
writing huge comments in the public forum is the last thing we can do!!!! :P
AnonymousLLB4 Jun 2010, 15:46
@aayush1990sri: please can you post a link to the Justice Thomas Committee report on substance abuse that you refer to?
Kian: in case we don’t get this link, you should ban this guy from posting any further on LI.
This is highly inappropriate to quote a report (of a former Judge) which does not exist

I got through to NUJS and NLU-D.
I am skipping NUJS for NLU-D.
draconion4 Jun 2010, 16:30
Moreover, it must be observed that […] Namin […] of NLU-D seems to be making very contrary remarks all along:
Firstly, he says we work hard in NLUD…blah..blah…we dont have curfews as late as NUJS’s…blah…blah.
Then says, NUJS and “other” NLS’s have such high pressure which makes people dependent on “drugs”, etc.
So from my understanding he’s trying to imply that you have to work hard in NLS’s and therefore some succumb to drug addiction, however, he’s also at the same time insinuated that “if you want to party till 2AM, then go to NUJS blah…blah…blah”
So, could you Mr.Namin clarify whether NUJS is a party land or high-pressure drug-succumbing shit-hole college? From my understanding, it cannot be both.
draconion4 Jun 2010, 16:34
I personally know of people in NLUD who don’t follow the diktak of these self-righteous NLUD recruiters and “enjoy” life in the proper spirit!
Let these kids join NLUD, they will soon realize what they missed out on!!!
For clarity sake: I’m from NLU,J. Dhruv’s batch mate.
AnonymousLLB4 Jun 2010, 16:40
Lol.
Guys come on,
What are people fighting over?:D
I am choosing Delhi over Kolkata.
I have lived 18 years of my life in Mumbai.
And as the TS may know,
Mumbai-ites and Delhi-ites don’t get along that easily together.:p
This is my advice to the TS,
Even I had the same confusion as you,
Make a choice and back it to the hilt.
As for no drugs, booze etc. in NLU-D.:p
“Where there’s a will, there’s a way”.
When the Mumbai guys reach there…:p

We are trying to clear the air of all the stink that seems to have been brought on by these boys from NLUD.
Its not ego massaging, if you’re a sub-100 rank holder, you’ll soon realize it once you join NALSAR (or NLS) that we are trying to guide the un-initiated correctly, while NLUD boys are just slinging heavy words such as “drug-addiction”, the supposed “Justice Thomas Report” and the like.

There’s no choice if you get through to NLSIU or NALSAR.
After that things complicate,
I know many people last year and this year(me too this year) who left NUJS for NLU-Delhi.
What does NUJS offer me that NLU-D doesn’t?
1-Reputation.
2-Alumni.
3-Placements(which may be equalled by NLU-D for all we know).
Even after this,
Imma going for Dilli.
draconion4 Jun 2010, 17:08
Then let me assure you, I’ve met enough NALSARites, and they aren’t the shit you perhaps think they are.
Normal fellows, some with excellent CV’s agreed, but quite normal.
A difference of 5-7 marks would’ve landed you from NALSAR or NUJS to perhaps GNLU. Make use of it. The three things you mention, those are ABOUT the only advantage. There is none other.
You are not really smart compared to all those kids who are behind you by a mark, especially given the no-negative rule. So, make use of the oppurtunity you’ve been gifted and don’t waste it. That has been the theme of this whole thread.
If you know enough people who’ve made such a decision, then by all means, go ahead and do the same. But, remember, Law Firms will be apprehensive when a new law school pops-out for the first time.
Just remember that before you take the plunge. After which do what you want.
I’m in the middle of a lot of work, so this would be my last reply for a long time.

The discussion is quite entertaining on dis part of the forum. It has compelled me to put in my 2 cents…
Frm what I hve heard frm disussions within eminent members of the legal fraternity, there is a unanimous consensus as to one fact—NLU Delhi is here to rock!!!Besides the locational advantages and the fact dat Prof. Ranbir Singh is its VC…it’s the quality of students dat hve enrolled demselves in dis college dat assures u of its success.Apart frm the fact dat NLU Delhi entrance test is considered the most difficult UG level legal exam in India, the fact dat ppl are leaving NUJS and possibly NALSAR for NLU-Delhi gives u an idea of the quality of students der.Wid such a strong student base and supportive faculty members NLU Delhi HAS to become one of the most sought after colleges in years to come.
I cud not get thru NLU delhi in the 1st list(had a score of 98) so I implore on u—Utkarsh and TS to leave NLU Delhi so dat it drops into my basket…:P
AnonymousLLB5 Jun 2010, 04:11
a counter question would be more interesting,
What has NLS D got to offer, which NUJS cant?
and whosoever is making a choice based on this forum, i would implore him to not to do so, and go for a more unbiased opinion.
Tisrock5 Jun 2010, 13:18
Am sorry im posting after a while, don’t have as much spare time as u guys at NUJS. @ pacman, am extremely sorry i referred to you as a student of NUJS. i don’t pay too much attention to post script’s. though your agitation at you being called a “noojie” surprises me. So much that you should resort to harsh words in response to a simple mistake. sigh!! so much for the support.
any way, acknowledged that NALSAR had only one major competitor when it was established. Acknowledged that Prof. Singh was with NALSAR for 10 years but NALSARS first placements were symbolic of its success as an institute securing 100% placements in its first batch itself with the top rankers getting extremely lucrative placements. now you may argue that this was because there was lesser supply in law students due to only two institutes and hence it was only natural that they would get jobs, but i don’t think demand arises from quantity alone, but exponentially from both quality and quantity. Also the demand for law students then was much lesser than it is now so the demand curve remains constant even today despite the face that the number of law schools has increased and hence there is an increase in the number of graduates, however there is a corresponding increase in demand. therefore as long as our Respected VC Prof. Singh is able to do with us what he did with NALSAR and produce quality graduates(which he is very much in the process of doing), add that to the advantage of being in delhi, and you have brilliant placements in place! and no, Prof. Singh in not leaving us before our first batch passes out and even after that his date of leaving or his leaving at all has not been stipulated yet. i humbly apologize for my colleague stating a report and starting such a topic on this forum. however he is correct in stating that there is such a report, he might have got the name wrong, and it is a matter of common sense that such a report would not be available on google, therefore it is preposterous to demand a link to the same. would request you not to pursue that topic further, if however you still desire to do so then it is entirely on your own account that you shall. also i think its time to stop this argument. NUJS has been doing this on other forums as well such as facebook e.t.c. you a more misguiding students than guiding the. its better you let them make their own choices. we(Student of NLUD) did not enter this debate by choice but were made to due to provocative posts from students of NUJS(Bihari babu and the like). its time to end this.
AnonymousLLB5 Jun 2010, 13:24
@Tisrock
Could you tell me more about NLU-D and how the overall college is like.
Tisrock5 Jun 2010, 13:25
you(students of NUJS) might consider this good sport, or an exercise to show that your good at insulting other colleges, but its time to stop once its starts affecting other who still have their careers in contemplation. relax. if they have to choose NUJS, they shall. nothing you say will help. if they have to choose NLUD they shall. nothing we say will help either. we are not “recruiters” as “draconian” with his extremely loose tongue states!(no wonder NLUJ hasn’t beaten us at a PD yet! despite the fact that were a new college and they’re going up against 1st years and 2nd years.) you insult us, dont expect us to take it lying down. all those who choose NLUD, we welcome you with open arms to a bright future. All those who chose NUJS, may u be blessed with an equally bright future, for all said and done, NUJS is indeed a good university.
Tisrock5 Jun 2010, 13:27
@ Utkarsh, that is a conversation one could have on some other forum. if i start telling you about the merits of my college i shall be deemed an advertiser yet again by members of this forum. my email id is (rahuljseth[at-the-rate-of]gmail[dot]com.) you can send me a message there and i shall reply.
AnonymousLLB5 Jun 2010, 13:34
Sure Rahul.
I’ll mail you.
I think the fight was not necessary.
All of us belong to elite National Law Schools.
And we should all further the NLU brand, after all strength lies in numbers.
We don’t need some lower colleges to sneak up while our students fight.:D
Tisrock5 Jun 2010, 13:41
yea well..it now requires young people like utkarsh(not a law student yet) to set our elderly from NUJS on the right track. Heed his wise words gentlemen. they are to be valued, not ignored. you shall make a good addition to NLUD utkarsh. :D
AnonymousLLB5 Jun 2010, 13:47
Sure,
Keep the ragging light.:p
draconion5 Jun 2010, 13:47
@Tisrock
Sure, we have not beaten you in any PD. We went to Jessup’s and Stetson this year. Beat that. We also got special mention in one of them. SO MUCH for your bull! (oops! me and my “loose tongue”, and if you think this is “loose” my dear friend, you really require to step down to mother earth)
And, if you must, check the MPL (BTW, we have a new restriction wherein the entire college can only participate in 25 moots. Inspite of that we have done so well.)
Interestingly, the inconsistencies I pointed out in Namin-characters posts have not yet been rebutted. Would you please care to do so?
Saste!
namitjain905 Jun 2010, 14:47
@draconian
Thats thrice you have misspelled my name, nevertheless, a master of pointing at inconsistencies as you claim to be, I would request you to go through my earlier posts and see if even for once I have mentioned anything about drug abuse or that I defamed or disparaged any law school, so, there you go, your last post stands fallacious to say the least.
And I would suggest you to READ what people post out here and then get back to them. Anyways, its quite evident as to who is more into these fruitless debates from the sheer number of posts. And I guess you have a penchant for personal attacks and mindless bickering, but I really dont share the same interests.
Your university is no doubt an institution par excellence, but that doesnt give you the right to malign other institutions. This was the crux of this whole debate. Again, those who have to make a choice will do so according to their personal preferences, and our suggestions will only do little to alter their decision. So, there is really no point in arguing further.
Adios!

I’m busy with an internship, so I don’t have the time to quote all your posts. I have not maligned your college, I’ve just compared it with NUJS and it certainly pales in comparison.
[…]
My efforts at attempting to convince the new-comers seem to have failed and therefore the raison d’etre of joining this forum has effectively ended.
I wish you guys the best of luck for all your future endeavors.
I bid farewell to this forum.
However, do remember that an effort was made to convince you’ll of your mistake (which in my opinion it surely is) and which you spurned based on quixotic speeches mixed with half-baked notions of what college/good law school life is and should be.
Ciao.

Dear All,
Please keep conversations civil and informative in this thread and others.
Ultimately, the college you pick is a very personal one and I don’t think it’s possible to disagree so vehemently.
NUJS is obviously the more established and currently prestigious of the two, judging from your comments. I think no one would dispute that.
NLU-D has great potential and could also offer great job prospects and Delhi work-experience, considering its connections.
Now, whatever choice someone makes is a personal one.
If you feel like playing it safe, NUJS is more likely the best bet.
If you are the type of person who is happy to take some risks and the more ‘adventurous’ path, as it were, you should be free to try out NLU D - you will probably get great opportunities and experiences, although you probably won’t quite know what exactly those are yet. It is not a safe 100% bet of course, but then again, most things in life are not.
It sounds from all posts in this thread that either of these colleges has the potential to be a right and valid choice, depending on what kind of person you are.
There is no magic solution to having a career or being successful - things often happen in unexpected ways.
Just my thoughts, having followed this discussion and many interesting points that were made keenly.
Cheers,
Kian

Sigh! @Draconian..thanks for letting it go mate. i know it must’ve been hard for you since its difficult for you to discern the difference between a moot and a PD. Happens. Not to every one though, just to some exceptional people. and since your didn’t land either NLUD or NUJS and are sadly stuck in NLUJ, i have no doubts where your frustrations coming from. Relax. Have Fun.

so which college are you from false news with balls?? :P

I cracked NUJS and left it for NLU-D this year, after appearing for CLAT 2010 and NLUD 2010.
1-I think you need to mind your language.
2-Anybody who cracked a law exam to make it to the best law schools can decide where he wants to go, like you did.
If anybody decides where to go after reading comments here, he deserves the shit that comes to him.
3-Don’t make premature statements.
Maybe 3 years later you groan about how you had got a chance to join another law school(I might do the same:D).
So,
I respect NUJS,
We know it is one of the best law schools in the country and it doesn’t need to denigrate people to make a point.
Do I want to go there?
Not really.
Are my preferences due to the city,
Maybe,
It’s my choice.
So you stay happy with your choice,
Others stay happy with theirs.
We are going to be part of the National Law School brotherhood and let’s make it better than Ivy League.:)
Peace.

@utkarsh
With due respect to you and your future law school, i would like to say that you should look into your own remarks before commenting on someone else’. It is you who have been advertising your choice everytime you get an oppurtunity, be it Legally India or LST’s Virtual Classroom or Facebook to the point of absurdity. If you are so sure of your decision , why shout it all the time or is it the case that you got insecure about your own choice after reading the comment.
Your choice is your personal opinion, you are entitled to choose whatever you want and shout it on any forum avalaible(even though you’ve already done it numerous times),but the issue here is that Legally India is one of the few sources a law student has access to and therefore any unsubstantiated comments about any law school creates a wrong impression on the student’s mind which may lead him to take a wrong decision( I sincerely hope you never have to regret yours)
We don’t need to know from you what NUJS or any other law school is( because you are yet to enter either of them),so keep it to yourself!
And finally you need to mind YOUR language before advising someone else to do the same.
P:S-I completely agree with the last part of your post, though i wish you had followed it instead of merely writing it for its sake.
peace to you and peace to all
AnonymousLLB23 Jun 2010, 23:06
I have been following this discussion for quite sometime now…I am joining NLUD over NLUJ and it has little to got to do with NLUD being in Delhi. I would like to substantiate my choice by the arguments given in this thread by a NUJS student himself:
Since this blog for law school aspirants is maintained by a NUJS student..I dont think there is any foul play involved on the part of NLUD students as has been alleged in this debate. Every one has a sense of belonging to his college, so its natural that they will put forth the positive side of their college…so please stop alleging that NLUD students love advertising their college..talk about advertising, go to “LST on facebook” its full of posts in which Saurav Datta(who was with LST earlier) and some other NUJS students have talked about the reasons as to why someone should join NUJS, and personally knowing Saurav Datta, I would like to tell you guys that he claims that NUJS is better than NALSAR, thats his opinion…is it advertising, NO!! So, calling NLUD students names wont help…as I have been following this debate..and its for everyone to see that the initial posts in this thread were by NUJS students…and now that enough has been discussed…I would suggest you guys to stop maligning each other like small kids…as Utkarsh said, we are entering one of the National Law Universities and thus we belong to the same fraternity..so having these fruitless debates are not of any help..
AnonymousLLB24 Jun 2010, 00:07
I don’t think there is a in point arguing. Its the best from every college who’ll actually win the big race.
One mark up or one mark down probably we would have been in the same college. So plz lets stop debating on unnecessary arguments.
This a great forum for us to discuss on the productive academic
and non academic aspects of law schools and life at Law schools.
We talk so much about unity. So it would be great if we could maintain a healthy virtual relationship. (We the future lawyers)
Who knows we might end up working in the same firm:)

I’m not on facebook yet.
If you’re snooping around me on LST’s virtual classroom-does feel weird man.
As for ‘advertising’ my choice.
I think that’s a pretty lame word used around here.
Somebody asks me why I am taking a risky decision-I tell him.
Don’t like it?
Look the other way.
I’m sure of my decision.
But I’m not very happy with people around here calling people ‘prats’ and how the college I am going to join would’ve been the ‘biggest’ mistake of somebody’s life.
Don’t snoop.

Ofcourse,
My choice.
I haven’t aired my ‘views’ on this forum.
Only on two other places, one of which you know and according to you a third one, i.e., Facebook where I don’t have an account.
I haven’t made any unsubstantiated claims.

I don’t like getting myself into online scuffles but I don’t mind them either.
This post is outright pugnacious.
I merely mentioned that NUJS is better than NLU-D.

Everyone has a right to admit his/her right and wrong decisions, how does your not feeling happy about it matter. Are you so unsure about your decision that everytime someone makes a choice contrary to yours you start feeling unhappy about it.The institution you are about to join may be the best decision you ever took but it can very well be the worst decision of someone else’s life.Does that offend you????

Yes , i do hope we end it here with a smile. What prompted me to write my previous post was not your tendency to always shout out your decision but your tendency to confront with anybody who did not think like you.
Cheers
@Bihari Babu
@dn1991
All the best!!
well i’m from mumbai so the comfort of being at home is not exactly an option. i was seriously considering joining NLUD over NUJS but before letting go off a good college i really wanted to get feedback from people who r already there in the legal field. of course the above post is the only one that i have come across till now which says i can choose NLUD over NUJS but im happy there’s at least one. what deters me from joining NUJS is that i have heard about complaints of mismanagement and of course many other things which i need not mention here. so i guess going to NLUD may be a gamble but i think i’m ready to take it. i’m not totally sure but i think i wont regret it. thans a lot for all your insights. for a person like me-and i’m sure there r many out there like me-feedback of the existing students of the colleges matters a lot. so thanks a lot.
P.S: i havent closed this discussion-if anyone feels they would like to share something about either college which would make me more sure of my decision then please do post it.
why i’m not really asking anyone from the coaching institutes is not that i haven’t tried it but many of them are either from one of these colleges which gives them the scope to advertise or they could be totally outside the actual legal field. most of the teachers who teach logical, english or maths-they’re not even connected with the legal field so that’s y i resorted to this asking on the net. and end of the day it’s what my heart says that i’m gonna follow but i want to make sure that im making a conscious decision. present students especially those who actually did choose to go to NLUD even though they had qualified in the much established NALSAR or NUJS, could tell me what their reason was for the choice. so asking on the net isn’t exactly the worst thing to do. so thanks a lot once again for all the insights.
@namitjain90-
since u r a student at NLUD now could u tell me something about hostels and the grounds and all. are they still under construction or are the basics there and only additions remain to be done? what is it like?
Close your eyes and go to NUJS.
NUJS is a brand name
NLUD, a brand name in the making.
Go for it.
I face the same dilemma and this thread has helped me make my choice- I will be choosing NUJS over NLU-Delhi for the various reasons stated above. Perhaps, if I was faced with this decision 10 years down the line, it might have been different.
@Namit: You said enough and there is nothing left brother.
Those who want to go NUJS definitely they are right in doing so at the moment but we are sure that we will be there soon or even far beyond that position
thank you all for your valuable suggestions and information about the quality of your faculty, internships, etc. i have decided to join NLU delhi. and like i specified in one of my earlier posts, i’m from mumbai. so staying at home or hometown is not my criteria for choosing a college. i’m choosing nlu delhi for NLU delhi and not just for delhi alone. not many people support me in my decision but i’m sure i wont regret it. once again a big thank you to all of you. im sure all those who posted on this thread were trying to just help me and no one had any agenda to advertise their own college. so let there be no ill feeling about that against anyone.
regards.
@people from nujs- Oops…if i read it correctly, he’s joining delhi.
@dn1991… yes u will definitely wont regret.. i also did the same.. and m happy with my decision.. welcome to nlu delhi..
@abhimanyu singh- that would be a she’s joining delhi. :)
amd
@anonymous- thank you. i’m looking forward to it!
@dn1991
Disclaimer- I can vouch for the above information realating to NLS and NALSAR.
i beg to point out; a lot of your batch didnt make it to any other college.
i have heard that a guy from NLUD took the clat again. Is it true?
Is NLUD all flashy and nice but less substance?
Seems to me the ppl from NLUD are very insecure about their college, judging by their posts.
Period.
Now I’ll just wait for some more students from NUJS to resume at their petty attempts, however unsuccessful they may be, just as they were last year.
kar le join NLUD yaar.
Is there really such a report or am I being gullible? If so, do you have a copy?
Kian
it would be wonderful if you could post a link to the said report … competition is an important tool in realizing your own potential and there always will be a few black sheep who turn to such alternatives but if this becomes a trend then we have some trouble on our hands . i have seen these allegations on various threads but never have they been validated or their severity been explicitly expressed . if you could provide some proof or in depth analysis then i believe it will be more useful to us than all the nlud/nujs slugfest combined …
the only justice Thomas report i could find seems irrelevant to your assertion.

of course theres the more famous one on police reforms too …
but again,
UNRELATED
i realise that all of you love your colleges and feel offended at criticism which you consider unfounded but in case you have forgotten there are many prospective students who wittingly or unwittingly make a choice which will have an inestimably immense impact on their lives based on what you write here … it may not be the sole factor but it surely affects their way of thinking . in massaging your or your institutions’ egos do not forget you are enacting the role of a mentor here . . .your ego is not worth innocent lives.
this is not a generalisation . there are many posters who are helping us considerably and we are grateful to them . but to others , don’t say anything you are not prepared to back up by facts . don’t turn this into my d**k is bigger than your d**k because we don’t want to see either of your reproductive protrusions …
there , i had my rant . sorry if harsh but please don’t forget why you are here (to help people)
aayush1990sri: My dear friend, where ever students stay away from home there will be cases like the ones you just mentioned, or you imply that in NLUD NO ONE SMOKES OR DRINKS.
Think logically man.
exactly pacman … .
the way it is being portrayed it appears as if doing drugs is a campus culture in NLS NALSAR etc . . .i cannot believe that can be the case so if you make an allegation, back it up .
how much time you all have got to write this much!!!
in nls and nalsar even in nujs ppl dnt have time to breathe
writing huge comments in the public forum is the last thing we can do!!!! :P

Ciao

Whoa Whoa.
You either did not read, or did not understand what I was saying.:D
Chill it dude.
I cud not get thru NLU delhi in the 1st list(had a score of 98) so I implore on u—Utkarsh and TS to leave NLU Delhi so dat it drops into my basket…:P
a counter question would be more interesting,
What has NLS D got to offer, which NUJS cant?
and whosoever is making a choice based on this forum, i would implore him to not to do so, and go for a more unbiased opinion.
@Tisrock
Could you tell me more about NLU-D and how the overall college is like.
you(students of NUJS) might consider this good sport, or an exercise to show that your good at insulting other colleges, but its time to stop once its starts affecting other who still have their careers in contemplation. relax. if they have to choose NUJS, they shall. nothing you say will help. if they have to choose NLUD they shall. nothing we say will help either. we are not “recruiters” as “draconian” with his extremely loose tongue states!(no wonder NLUJ hasn’t beaten us at a PD yet! despite the fact that were a new college and they’re going up against 1st years and 2nd years.) you insult us, dont expect us to take it lying down. all those who choose NLUD, we welcome you with open arms to a bright future. All those who chose NUJS, may u be blessed with an equally bright future, for all said and done, NUJS is indeed a good university.
Sure Rahul.
I’ll mail you.
I think the fight was not necessary.
All of us belong to elite National Law Schools.
And we should all further the NLU brand, after all strength lies in numbers.
We don’t need some lower colleges to sneak up while our students fight.:D
yea well..it now requires young people like utkarsh(not a law student yet) to set our elderly from NUJS on the right track. Heed his wise words gentlemen. they are to be valued, not ignored. you shall make a good addition to NLUD utkarsh. :D
Sure,
Keep the ragging light.:p
@Tisrock
Saste!
@draconian

Relax. Have Fun.
And thank you moderator!
@NLU-D students—I was jst abt to make the biggest mistake of my lyf by joining NLU-Delhi instead of NUJS.Kudos to ur penchant for misguiding young minds.U shud be ashamed of urself,u prats!!!
Anyways I talked to some sane ppl and was able to rectify it!!

so which college are you from false news with balls?? :P

Anyways I talked to some sane ppl and was able to rectify it!!
Peace.
@utkarsh
P:S-I completely agree with the last part of your post, though i wish you had followed it instead of merely writing it for its sake.
peace to you and peace to all
I have been following this discussion for quite sometime now…I am joining NLUD over NLUJ and it has little to got to do with NLUD being in Delhi. I would like to substantiate my choice by the arguments given in this thread by a NUJS student himself:
http://myclat.ning.com/forum/topics/nlu-delhi?id=4727217:Topic:1552&page=1#comments

I think you should clear your paranoia and come out with your real identity.
You know my name.
Who are you?

Now,
Are you trying to take potshots?
I don’t like getting myself into online scuffles but I don’t mind them either.
This post is outright pugnacious.
I merely mentioned that NUJS is better than NLU-D.
If you check around LST, you’ll find me recommend GNLU over Delhi to other guys.
So keep it clean and keep it fair.

You mean to say I called somebody a ‘prat’ or something?
Ah well,
I didn’t.
Anyway,
With a discussion where you are clearly alligned against me without checking out why I said something, I believe discussion is futile.

Man,
You have studied psychology haven’t you?
I’ve heard of handwriting psychology, what’s this now?
‘Typing psychology’?

peace to you and peace to all
Agreed.
I hope we end it here with a smile.:)

In your case,it is simply unnecessary to “snoop”.Your comments declaring your choice pop up everywhere without having to look for them. And by the way i have every right to read the comments whether on this site or on Virtual Classroom( just as you have the right to post comments)so please , shove aside the “snooping”.
I haven’t made any unsubstantiated claims
I never said that you made any unsubstantiated claims,i was talking about users in general. Similarly the earlier comment(by JammedPurl) did not blame you , it was also a general comment. If you think everything written on the internet is talking about you, who’s being ‘paranoid’ now??

Again your habit of jumping to comment! I only said that you are not qualified to recommend a law school yet as i gather all that you know about law schools is hearsay. This includes you recommending GNLU or praising NUJS.I never said that with reference to NLUD.Infact i did not mention NLUD in my entire post.(again a hint of paranoia)

You mean to say I called somebody a ‘prat’ or something?
No,you did’nt call anybody “prat”,but you did write-” …he deserves the shit that comes to him.”,which to me is also a case to mind your language.(try using that phrase in front of a judge)
I hope we end it here with a smile.:)

Yes , i do hope we end it here with a smile. What prompted me to write my previous post was not your tendency to always shout out your decision but your tendency to confront with anybody who did not think like you. Did anyone have a problem about your decision , so why get offended at others choices…
:) :) :)

But you did make unsubstantiated claims.
Something about reading my comments on ‘Facebook’.
Which was a blunt lie as I am not on facebook.
It was pretty clear that I did not take the post in question as addressed to me.

Man,
Don’t you know?
I don’t need to be qualified to recommend colleges to people.
Just like you don’t need to be qualified to tell me why I’m not qualified enough to recommend colleges.
You got a problem with my recommendation?
Point out why you disagree.
I have every right to recommend colleges to people according to which of them I might consider to be better.

This shows you haven’t read or haven’t understood the issue.

You sure are starting early for your litigation career.
Well my friend,
Good Morning,
I am not arguing in front of a judge.
Anyway,
You haven’t understood the context of the post.

You said something about ‘jumping to conclusions’?
Well,
Here it comes.
Who’s offended with the guy’s decision?
Good.
Good for him.
You really don’t know what you are arguing over do you?
BTW,
If I do have such tendencies(confrontational) I’ll see about correcting them.:)

Oh wow,
You saw my posts in two places and you know about my ‘habits’?
Ironical when you use ‘jumping to comment’ when you look at this from a neutral viewpoint.
