Hi Sir,

I am from Goa and have been staying in a rented house [without agreement, no payment receipts] since the last 24 years with my family. The landlord has been good till now.

we do not have a separate water or electricity meter, so we pay them to the landlord.

I basically have all my identity proofs[Election card, Passport, Aadhaar card, Driving license] on this address and Landlord did not have problems with these.

Recently i needed broadband, so i went to BSNL and applied for a landline connection, they asked for a resident proof, i gave them the Election card. after which my connection was approved.

however when the BSNL people visited my home to set up the connection, the Landlord sent them away and did not let them set the connection up.

please tell me is it that a tenant cannot get a landline on his name?
