Could someone please guide me as to what the terms “rule issued” in a judge’s order and “returnable date” mean?

Lavin Hirani explained on Facebook: “Rule issued means that the petition is admitted and returnable date means when the matter is to be listed next.”

Here, some more from Facebook from Vivek Bangalore: Rule issued or Issue rule is the proper legal term for admitting a Writ Petition/ Petition.. And when Writ Petition / Petition is disposed the term to be used is ‘Rule Absolute’.. Normally courts only use basic term as to ‘Admit’ & ‘Disposed’.. Returnable date means the next date of hearing/ when petition is to be posted next…
