Getting homesick and sick of the crowd at NLIU Bhopal have an option to go to Amity Law School. Should i?
8 Jul 2013, 15:53
Hi,
I’m from Delhi, and i’m used to people from Delhi and their demeanor. I’ve been in NLIU for around a week, and i do not find the crowd very nice, and the ragging also is very abundant! i miss my friends and family too. Here, no offence to anybody, but the 50% MP reservation has got the quality of crowd down, and i think due to the increased batch size to 120, placements wouldn’t be much. All i want to know is that should i shift back to Delhi, because I’ll be happier there.
Thanks a lot!
P.S.- Reply ASAP, need to book my tickets at the earliest :P

If your quite serious about a career in law then you should be able to cope with anything the college throws your way (referring to the apparent issues you have). The first few weeks are quite tough but then it worked out decently enough for me. Its a very different atmosphere from what you would be used to and quite honestly most of my compatriots and otherwise seriously need a good shaking-over to realise there exists a world beyond what they have seen in Delhi / Mumbai / Bangalore / Hyderabad / Kolkata / Pune.
Most of my batch-mates and I have had the complaint you mention at some point of time or the other and far more, but quite honestly, NLIU for good or worse, made me strive for everything I am today and I honestly wouldn’t have it any other way.
And id also suggest you refrain from blaming the reservation for most people fail to realise that it isnt as bad as its made out to be. I shan’t waste time explaining the details here, because in my humble limited opinion, logic and not facts, shall show you the way to proceed. Trust you heart and know what you want to do.
If your not very serious about a career in law then maybe it also doesn’t make sense for you to waste all that money, just don’t get scared and run. Dont ever let fear and loneliness decide the course of your career. Those are not tools for a lawyer to rely on. You may end up repenting it for the rest of your life.
Just another NLIU MP Quota Alumini.
hi, thanks for your reply! i really appreciate your detailed advice. i’d like to add that i don’t think i will continue law for the rest of my life, and i most probably may end up doing something else for my masters (at the moment, international relations). I think that the opportunities I’ll get in Delhi, i wont get them here. I’m just doing law for a basic degree, and also that it does intrest me, but not as a profession i would pursue for the rest of my life…
First of all Prithvi, I know for a fact that you haven’t been here for even a full week. We actually spoke about this. More like 3 days. And really, it amazes me that you’ve made up your mind about the crowd over at NLIU as well as the placement scenario so quickly. It took us lesser mortals quite a bit longer to figure that out.
I’m no fan of ragging myself but I don’t understand what you mean by “abundant”. All the first years spend their time in class from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m and they are supposed to be back in their own separate hostel by 10:00 p.m. or else guards start looking for them in each and every room in the senior hostel. So there is really not a lot of time for ragging. Some of your batch mates have already started hitting the gym as well as the basket ball court and no one bothers to bother them.
Delhi is home. Its a hard city to leave. It wasn’t easy for me to leave my family and friends behind. But such is life and really if only you had a bit more courage I’m sure you would have found friends and indeed even family in the hostel. Understand that there is a world outside Delhi too. What is worse by not even trying to make your place here and giving up on NLIU in just 3 days you’ve reinforced the stereotype of Delhities being sissies. A stereotype many of us have struggled against.
I would suggest you do go back to Delhi. If you would be willing to give up on a NLU just to be able to hold on to home, then this really is no place for you. I wish you all the best wherever you choose to go, be it Amity or studying International Relations as you say. But do try and not give up just as quickly as you’ve given up on NLIU. All the best!
P.S.- Do hurry up! The seats on Bhopal Express sell out pretty quickly.
Life at a law school is very hard to survive and it is clearly not meant for idiots like you. If you cant stand healthy interaction between seniors and juniors, then i believe you should go back to your home and stay in Delhi like a sissy. Also, for your information, relationship between seniors and juniors are very cordial at NLIU and they will help you at each and every step.
First of all, you think that just because you’re from a metropolitan city you can slander anything and everything? The fact that you chose to compare a premier institution like NLIU to Amity just repulses me. You talk about the MP quota. I know of people in my class from Madhya Pradesh, who have secured ranks 1100 positions higher than you. So let’s not insult the good people of this state. As far as ragging is concerned, there are people who actually want to get to know the seniors.Seniors here actually want to know us juniors. the fact that you can’t take healthy introductions actually gives us a wonderful insight into your character.
Law school is not for golden spooners like yourself. In future, please do not say all this about my college.
the last person to get into nliu through the general category domicile quota is having a rank under 600. Your Rank is 1611(nri sponsored), and therefore u have no right to say anything about the domicile quota.
Dekho guru, Treat NLIU well and in return it will treat u well(this rule has some exceptions but those cannot be invoked here). the kind of opportunities u will get in NLIU, believe me, u we will not get the same in Amity in this life at least. And stop being mama’s boy ki there is abundance of ragging. are yaar socho bagal me Kerwa Dam, Mast bada sa Campus, usme dher saari opportunities, College ke paison pe ghoomana, International Exposure. keh gaye hain tumhaare ek passed out senior Suyash Thakur(PULLER was his Brain Child) ki is college me there are plethora of opportunities(iska matlab opportunities banane ki bhi opportunities hain).
Aur jahan tak aapke International relations ki gyaan pipaasa (matlab curiosity) ki baat hai, to kal jaake apni library dekhna aur internet Databases explore karna, Phd thesis likhne bhar ka material mil jaaega. Bhai mere kyun Apne pair pe Kulhaadi Maarne ki soch rahe ho.
Aur ye kya dilli dilli karte rehte ho, jindagi insaan seekhne ke liye jeeta hai ya fir kha pee ke sone ke liye, bhopal me u have the opportunity to explore new facet of the life and hence u have the opportunity to explore urself(DIlli ke aage jahan aur bhi hai). It has not been even a month since u have been there, have patience, give urself and college a little time.
Aur option bhi Bataya to Amity, Agar padhai ke saath masti karna chahte ho to NLIU me raho lekin agar Masti ke saath padhai(wo bhi doubtful hai) karna chahte ho to jao Amity. NLIU will teach u to laugh on the face of deadlines, Amity me ye nahi seekh paaoge. aur mere bhai is so called ragging ki memories u will cherish ur whole life.
Beta Yaad rakho ” Haath se nikala hua college, aur opportunity to earn kowledge ” ek baar gaye to dobaara nahin aate.
By the way i m not a student of NLIU but since it has not been even a month since u have been there, to mai itna to keh sakta hun ki at present I know NLIU Better than u do.
Ab please yaar Galiyan mat dena, Sab Bonafide intention se likha hai.
The tone of some of the replies here is really not doing NLIU any favours.
Entering college away from your home town is always tough, and the supposedly ‘mild’ ragging that still occurs can make it even more uncomfortable.
This should be an opportunity to reach out and be supportive rather than being abusive.
All the best Prithvi, hope you manage to enjoy your time at NLIU, or Delhi or wherever you end up!
Best wishes,
Kian
Dude, hurry up! as so many other aspirants desperately want that seat which you have occupied. You chase yours let us chase our dream.

Repulses you? Fine, go ahead. Really, can’t handle any criticism about NLIU can you? “Healthy introductions.” Well, that’s hypothetical. What if the author has indeed been put into a rather uncomfortable situation by the seniors? Have you ever tried considering the author’s point of view, before going out on an all out verbal barrage you dimwit? Everybody has their own priorities. NLIU isn’t the be all and end all of life. Maybe it is for people like you, but trust me kid, it isn’t. There are other priorities. A friend of mine left NUJS in favor of ILS, simply because Pune is his hometown. And he’s doing pretty well. If the author wants to go to Amity instead, what’s the problem? Quality of life is one serious thing to consider. Don’t fret so much about it. One fine day you just might have to submit your resume to the author. He is merely asking for a suggestion, you certainly have no right to make disparaging remarks about anybody. But again, this is the internet. It’s hard to expect anything else from the likes of people like you.
Dude, m from delhi too . And ive stayed away from home too . But in no way am I such a wuss like you. Delhi waalo ki izzat mitti mai mila de tu :p bhai tu ghar jaa and reputed world class universities pe comments maarne k pehle zara soch lia kar kis right aur kis authority se keh rha hai. and if nothing happens kindergarten zindabaad ;) and dude.. be a man ..rough it out..face things be stronger. if still ur unable to cope ,then have no regrets going back. at least u tried. all the best whatever be ur choice.
