All About "National" Law Universities
You must be surprised to see the word National in inverted commas, after reading this article; you’ll get to know why it is so. About 30000 students prepare and appear for CLAT and other law entrance exam every year, just to get admission in a National Law University. Some of them even take drop(s) and prepare for these exams. It is believed that, just like the IIT(s) for engineering, we have National Law Universities for Law. Undoubtedly, NLUs provide quality legal education, but do you know how a National Law University is established? Do they really have NATIONAL character? Which authority gives the status of an NLU to a law university? Apart from this there are several doubts regarding the status of some National Law Universities (can’t name them: P) Well, to get the answer of such questions, I filed several RTI applications and the information I got was a “package” of Shocks and Surprises! I’d like to share the information with you…
Q. Who Affiliates National Law Universities?
A. NLUs are affiliated to the Bar Council of India (Source- BCI: D: 25/2013 (RTI-720/ LE)) and are recognised by the University Grants Commission
Q. Who grants the status of ‘National Law University’ to Law Universities and what are the requirements to be met by a law university to become a National Law University?
A. Universities are established either by the central government or by the state governments. The criteria are decided by the concerned government (source- University Grants Commission) (F. No. 4-1/2013(CPP-IPU))
(You must be surprised to know that all NLUs in the country have been established by the act of state governments so, all the NLUs are basically state universities… even the UGC has recognised every NLU as a state university)
Q. Whether, National Law Universities only can participate in CLAT?
A. Yes! (Following the writ petition of Mr. Varun Bhagat vs. Union of India, a meeting was held in the Department of higher education, Human Resource Development Ministry in which the scheme of a Combined Admission Test for the NLUs was agreed) Source- MHRD, Department of higher education (No.F. 11-9/2006-U.11 [Minutes of the meeting])
Q. Are these universities (NLUs) recognised as central universities by the University Grants Commission?
A. No! These universities are recognised as STATE UNIVERSITES by the University Grants commission (Source- http://www.ugc.ac.in/oldpdf/alluniversity.pdf)

Either you are a plain attention seeker or you have been living under a rock all these years. This information is easily available in the public domain. You filed 5-10 RTI applications for this?!!?! Any kid who would be genuinely interested in securing a place in these universities would have done a far better research than this. People like you waste public’s time and money.
Who asked you to read this blog? At least, I have a proof for whatever I said, not like U blaming colleges baseless and senselessly! go and spend your time in framing stories about dsnlu! If you are so smart and really want to help people, why don’t you reveal your identity?
Ayush don’t you have idea that in public forum nobody is supposed to disclose their identity. What do you want to prove that DSNLU is a landmark in the name of NLU? seriously speaking your article does not make any sense. You are forcing people to believe that DSNLU is a NLU.

Is it all about a cat fight over whether DSNLU is recognised or not? But why people?

It doesn’t really look like a discussion was started, but it was only sharing information ostensibly obatined from RTI’s.
If you are disputing that the information is inaccurate, that’s fine - please do so, or perhaps the original author could upload a copy of the original RTI response.
Either DSNLU is an NLU (with a very low profile) or it is not. Some supporting arguments would go far further than just mudslinging, which seems to have been the theme of this thread so far…?

you know what kianganz. Better I would recommend you to do some research on DSNLU. You are right DSNLU has a very low profile. Just because people are criticising you cannot term it as mudslinging. You must have referred the post by naina. If you do not believe the write-up better do a research. You will get to know the truth.
No doubt the discussion started on some RTI replies. Nobody pointed out anything offensive against DSNLU. The user raised the issue of DSNLU because some one posted criticism against his post. He thinks whoever is opposing his post that surely is a framing stories about DSNLU. Is this a reasoned argument Kian?
We’ve moderated a lot of less reasoned posts against the original poster.
What I want to know is, why does everyone have such a big bone to pick about DSNLU? The original post made no specific reference to DSNLU…
DSNLU is in a very deteriorated condition. The institution has witnessed many of its students leaving during their initial years. No events!!! No achievements!!! Nothing. This university has only featured itself in the regional medias. Their first batch have no prospect for placements. Nobody knows when their campus will come up. It seems the construction is not even started. Hostel fees are huge. This university has earned lot of money in the name of facility. But frankly speaking hardly any facility is provided. Do not you think parents have some expectations with a varsity?
Kian if you want a proof of all these details. You need to do better research. Because these issues were never highlighted in national media only featured in regional newspapers. Students have complained many times but the administration turned a deaf ear to these issues.
This university is a stigma in the name of NLU. Do not always take the side of the user out of sympathy. Try to learn the fact.
The point is, why was everyone shouting and being mean to someone, who did nothing except post up some RTI replies which happened to include the name of DSNLU as an NLU, which no one seems to be disputing.
I don’t see how this discussion is at all related or warranted, no matter what the state of DSNLU. And in any case, there is another thread on this forum about DSNLU already, isn’t there?

can’t you see the reply posted by the user. He has only taken up the issue of DSNLU. He is getting offended by the posts of naina and that is why whoever is contradicting his post he is getting annoyed. What does the user want to prove? He is just seeking media attention and sympathy for DSNLU. He cannot change anybody’s views. I have also read posts by naina on lawctopus discussion forum and I believe she has taken a very brave move.

yah kian you got the right link!! This is reason why user is getting offended. You would also find a similar post on lawctopus discussion forum. There her posts are updated. Only part of that posts are there on LI. I found her very amazing.
One thing I would like to point out. Naina never said DSNLU is not a NLU. She has only raised a doubt about its integrity on some points. There are many Nluites who does not have any idea about the existence of DSNLU. Do you have any ideas there are thousands nulites out there who also think in the same way as naina pointed out. Do you think is this the fault of naina?

I’m the author of this article. As asked by you, I’ll upload scanned copies of the replies I got. Coming to DSNLU, I don’t know why people ( I’m not sure whether they are real or the same person with different names) are taking it as an attempt to prove that it is a National Law University, Being a student of DSNLU, the main reason behind exercising RTI was to clear my doubts regarding its National character, which has been so well done by the UGC and BCI. The information I got was a package of surprises and shocks (recognition of NLUs as STATE UNIVERSITIES) and was ‘general’ in nature, that’s why i decided to share it with people. To conclude, this article is in no way intended to prove or make people believe that DSNLU is a National Law University. it is purely intended to share information.
This is not so surprising that nlu is state recognized. It is known to most of us. To all the people i will recommend you to check the ugc website. Nlu is a autonomous body and that is why it is state recognized.
You know what ayush, this is not the way to behave on a public forum. How could you utter shit against the person who prefers to criticise your post? Nobody is misbehaving with you. Better you do not cross your limit.
