NUJS or NLU-D?
12 Jun 2013, 23:34
I would like to request the able members of this very popular forum to help me out of.
I’m in a dilemma. Can somebody please compare the colleges on all relevant (doesn’t matter what is the degree of their relevance) grounds.
Additional info- I have to join NUJS for once anyway.I’m somewhere in the waiting list of NLU-D and it will take at least sometime for me to make the cut,if it at all happens and the last date for taking admission for NUJS is not too far.
And does NLU-D allow the students to be day scholars? My uncle lives in Delhi, if I choose NLU-D, I’ll have the privilege of being at his place for next 5 years (if he isn’t transferred). - This last part is not too relevant though.

Thread already exists.
Secondly, no, as far as I know, day scholars are not allowed.
I guess it depends your future interest but when it comes to placements…i guess you should join NUJS..
Its better than NLU-Delhi even as per latest placement report…check it on the google..
NUJS by all standards. I dont know too much about NLU Delhi but I can tell you this that NUJS boasts of the best faculty. Plus, name matters you know. When it comes to placements the tag will only help you. NUJS previously had infrastructural issues but as I understand things have gotten much better now.
@Anonymous
Yes, NUJS has better placements as of now. Seeing that they have 8+ batches passed out and Delhi has only 1. Still, placements haven’t been too far. If you ignore the LegallyIndia reports and get official figures, the placements are nearly neck to neck. And if you do not know about the college, you are in no place to advise.
NLUD.
If, after mere 5 years of its creation; it is being compared with the likes of NUJS. Imagine what heights it’ll achieve in the next 5.
Today, it stands parallel to the repute of NUJS. But then, NUJS has reached this level since its inception long ago. NLUD is new; and has risen to this level in a short span. The next five years only mean more growth.
Rest, its your call.
NUJS
D.
NLUD
The placements at NLUD for the first batch weren’t that great. But its second batch due to pass out next year has already placed 14 students - comparable with NUJS, considering we have absolutely no alumni help or anything of the sorts.
Location advantage - Delhi v. Kolkata - it’s really obvious.
Day scholars are allowed. Not many are there, but there are few. They don’t have to pay hostel or mess fees, if they don’t stay in the hostel.
As regards faculty, well NUJS does have good faculty, but then some of them have left due to poor administration issues - the likes of Prabhas Ranjan.
NLUD on the other hand - engaged 4 full time faculties in the past one year - 2 from Yale, 1 from Oxford and 1 from LSE.
And the VC is keen on getting more good talent into the faculty base that NLUD has.
I had to make a choice between NUJS and NLUD when I joined, I was in the first list of both colleges - and I chose NLUD, and I don’t regret it one bit.
lets look at both colleges.
NUJS
in the city, good faculty, 8 batches of alumni , very good placements. chilled out atmosphere, not too much academic strain.
now lets talk placements
till 2008 NUJS had a 100 percent placement record refer to this link http://www.nujs.edu/nujs-campus-recruitment.html
thus right from its very first batch NUJS had very good placements.
even after that , the placements are very good with 4-8 people getting international law firms on an average each year and let me not even start on the best indian ones . the point is that placements here have been consistent over a period of time and they have been good placements.
NLU-D
it has come up brilliantly and only a fool could deny that. good moot performances, a dynamic VC etc are all things NLU-D has got going for it.
but that said , it is still early in the day to start comparing it with NUJS . NLU - D is getting people from yale, or oxford or LSE . NUJS already has faculty which is equally qualified and very experienced and respected in their respective areas of teaching .
look at the situation very pragmatically .
NLU-D is an institution with promise. its this years placements are decent , when looked in the light of its previous years placements. to say the numbers are comparable to NUJS’ placements would be stretching promise a bit too far. again , i am not taking away anything from NLU-D it has emerged has a very good institution, it is still in its formative years and things can go anywhere from here.
it can be very good and in 5 years from now be considered what NUJS is considered today .
but the flip side is that it may not have the same success as NUJS has had till now.
if its a choice-an immediate choice between something which is promising and something which is established - then it would only be sensible to choose the established . a promise may or may not translate into anything significant - a successful establishment remains successful.
“a successful establishment remains successful.”
You obviously have no idea how the recession came about.
And are you serious? You are comparing 2014 placements of NLUD to NUJS 2008 placements?
i dont know in which language did u read comparisons between NUJS 2008 and NLU-d 2014.
i’m comparing 2014 to 2014 and also pointing out that in its formative years NUJS had 100 percent placement and NLU-D didnt really have great placements for its first batch
to dumb it down for you - 2005 100% , 2006 100% , 2007 100 % , 2008 100% . and post 2008 , NUJS had commendable placements when you take into account that there was recession .
Haha. I would say that the 2014 placements of NUJS are comparable to NLUD’s. If you have a look, nearly the same number of people have gotten Tier 1 jobs and vacation schemes - and please do not quote LegallyIndia’s outdated article.
I think there is some confusion regarding the placements of NLUD and how they compare to those of NUJS.
If someone has any relevant links;
could they be kind enough so as to post them here and clear this confusion?
If I may intrude, even if we are to take LegallyIndia’s article as a basis, wouldn’t Delhi’s 12/80 (15%) be almost at par with NUJS’ 21/125 (16.8%)?
you’re assuming that everyone in the batch sits for recruitment and that assumption is wrong . hence if LI’s article is anything to go by, then no , NLU-D still doesnt have comparable placements .
Of course. But then my assumption is that an equal percentage of people opt to sit out of placements. If some people from NUJS do not sit for campus placements, obviously some people from NLUD will not sit for placements too. However, my theory is flawed - due to not having access to data (I study at another NLU), my assumption that an equal percentage of people do not sit for placements can vary. This is just a comparative view by an outsider.
Arjun Agarwal finally joined NUJS and seems pretty happy even with all the current existing problems. I am sure given a chance to transfer to NLU D, he will choose to stay.
Cheers!
