Friend used my credit card for paying his hotel bills and not repaying back

My friend used my credit card to pay his hotel bills amounting to Rs.40,000 saying that he will pay back the amount to me. However, even after 6 months and several reminders, he has not repaid back and avoiding my phone calls. Can the hotel payment receipts stating the use of my credit card to pay his hotel bills or the credit card statement which contains the transaction to repay his hotel bills be used as a documentary evidence for any legal remedy and recover my amount. Please advise.

will you really go to court for rs 40000 ?
better option is, warn him and if he still doesn’t pay up damage his property. like tv or car or something like that.
not the most legal of the ways but definitely more effective. get your common friends to take your side, inform his relatives/ parents/ family etc and shame him.
40,000 will take a lifetime for you to recover. Another option you have is try sending him a legal notice, and see his reaction.
but my guess is, he wont pay up. so public name and shame and some damage to his property is your only practical solution.
Violence is no solution to any problem, instead it might lead to a few more cropping up. As has been rightly pointed out, going to court for that amount won’t do you any good, because our legal system is not really known for its efficiency in quick disposal of cases. If all negotiations have been pointless and you really need that money, tell him you’re going to the police and give him a week’s time. If he still doesn’t pay up, go file that goddamn complaint.
violence is no solution. I disagree. lets leave it at that. of course there are two sides of a coin. I have seen one side. So I disagree. violence, coupled with name and shame is what I recommended.
File a complaint for recovery of 40,000 ! Bazinga, my friend, either you have never dealt with the criminal justice system or just been pure fortunate luck that you have come across cops who would entertain a claim for that amount. So, I would disagree here too!
the legal system in India is simply not equipped to handle this case. that sir, is the harsh reality.
Bazinga, you’re right.. Der are cases where violence has lead to mre prblms.. And trusting our legal system is d only solution.. If dat doesn help, file a suit for recovery. Period.
