Do you think with the GST coming next year and the entire face of indirect taxes to undergo a paradigm shift, lawyers have good scope to practice tax, specially indirect tax?

Lot of consulting firms are hiring lawyers for their indirect tax divisions and the starting salary to a fresh law graduate ranges from 6-8 lacs. With GST being introduced from April 1, 2011 the market is bound to throw tremendous opportunities. Other areas of practice in indirect tax includes service tax, customs and excise.

Wel, wit the implementation of the Direct Tax Code from Apr 1, 2011 the direct tax practice will also be undergoing change.. As for the practice of international tax like permanent establishment, transfer pricing, etc. there is already so much scope and it is only about to increase in the future.
As for me, working wit a Tier 1 law firm, I can say working in Direct Tax also allows one to grow in connected fields like foreign exchange laws, wto, company law, etc and more..
So tax law practice in the in thing in the upcoming few years.. :)
