Custody of a child and visitation by grandparents
Hello All,
I wanted some legal opinion on the following.
I lost my wife in a car accident and I have a 6 yr old daughter. My in-laws have been very interfering in our lives earlier and now all the more they try to find out things about me and my life when they meet the grandchild.
After almost 2 yrs now, I have decided to move on and have found a life partner. but my in-laws continue to ask questions to the child about the new lady in our lives and keep comparing her with their daughter. they continue to ask her information as petty as what we do on weekends where do we go, etc etc.
Over the period of last 1 yr or so, the child has started to lie to us about what she shares to them about our lives and continues to unknowingly pass on information to the their questions. In spite of confronting the child on various occasions to not do this and stop these acts, she falls prey to the emotion pleas and comments made by the grand parents and behaves differently that she normally is to suit them.
I have spoken to the grandparents as well and requested them to stop asking the child questions like when is ur dad planning to get married, does your new to be mom talk to you proporly etc, they refuse to relent and deny doing any such things or ask the child when she is with them.
1. Is it possible to seek legal help to keep the grandparents away from the child officially?
2. By knowing that I as a father can exercise my right as a guardian can I tell them to stay away?
In summary, can legal help be taken to stop this nuisance which hasn’t stopped even after repeated discussions. This is affecting the child as well making us cautious of what all to discuss in front of the child
Thanks in advance for the advise and help.
