Symbiosis is no doubt a stand out in that league.

However, I do agree that ICFAI, Amity, Christ and Army are also gaining good reputation.

BILS, Bangalore is also good, i guess.

There are a few more private colleges such as Nirma, KIT, UPES.. but they are far away from being the ‘best… Symbi no doubt is the best pvt. law school.

Try for National Law school always. But for pvt, go for symbi or amity though I am not sure anymore about these college though I passed from symbi only.

Like things have changed and placement was not good this year in symbi. Fees is high. No such good faculty anymore. But overall, a good college. but go for this college only if you have no option in national law schools.

UPES’s positioning is marvelous. They have tried to specialize in a field which is upcoming and prospective. However, from what i hear, they lack in good faculties and still have a long way to go in order to get counted among the best..however UPES is prospective..

Symbi had 25 placements dis yr outta a batch of 150+ n trust me 15 r placed in LPO’S …so check all pvt law school records before joining.!!!

Symbiosis is a decent law school. I can’t say much about the other law schools however most students at Symbiosis are articulate and well informed. Further unlike the other schools Symbiosis allows one to pursue one hobbies and indulge in extra curricular activities as well. The competition is healthy if not cut throat and there are some exceptional students enrolled. It also encourages students to motivate themselves instead of spoon feeding them.

tHE BEST AMONG THE “WORST law colleges”

JOIN them only if you have good references:-

Symbiosis:NO proper classes, no attendance records,No permanent campus gud exposure though bcoz of brand value, participation in moots n conferences, Gud alumni records though most of them have been absorbed through PPO’s.Check there 2010 placement brochure.Its not upto the mark.

ICFAI a close second, catching up.Academics are very strong,Attendance mandatory, Regular exams in forms of test & Terms which is a strong criteria for gud CGPA, EXPOSURE NOT THAT GUD bcoz of usual tests students are not really encouraged to participate in Moots & Conferences, However participation is seen in past events.International acclaim/participation is yet to come.However some Internships & Summer schools participation is there.Check their Placement brochure.Exceptionally drafted.No flaw except the achievments corner.Students are gud but not much encouragement form Management side.Two batches passed out with a decent placement in law firms & corporates.Very gud Internships of students, although dont know through References or merits.Whatever it is, Legal fraternity in India are recognising it.

Amity dont even considering joining it unless you have a lot of money and dont really intend to start from scratch.The worst of lot.seems like a coaching instuitution because of its advertisements rather than a law school.No academics, No attendance, Though some sort of encouragement is there for participation in moots and conferences.

It is my opinion that prior comments in this section have been impaired by the lack of information with respect to several privately run law schools in the country. To put things into perspective here, one must take into account several arenas where these schools may be allowed to compete simultaneously. Running on mere assumptions makes this discussion seem rather obtuse.

The basis for this comment lies in some degree of information accumulated through my time in law school and consequent interaction with various people from the above mentioned schools.

Amity, Noida: Scarred by the name and the repute. The student populace does not do much to improve the state of things anyway.

Amity Law School, New Delhi: The better cousin in the Amity family. Has decent mooters and participates in quite a few competitions. All in all, a good place to study. (I am ill-informed to comment about their infrastructure or faculty.)

Symbiosis, Pune: Defintely one of the best private law schools in the country. Provides unmatched opportunities to hone your skills in extra- or co-curricular activities, but that’s probably due to their attendance structure. Boasts of a good student base, on an average, placements (with respect to private schools) and once-was faculty!

AILS, Mohali: What this institution lacks in infrastructure, it makes up for by its faculty and a small but commendable student base. Not very well ranked, but has potential to match upto some of the best in the country. Only time can tell.

Christ, Bangalore: One of the most upcoming law schools in the country. Has good infrastructure, student base, resources, proactive participation. However, faculty and management remain as concerns. Only 5 years old, this law school will churn out its first batch into the industry this year. Quite a substantial brand name as well, under Christ University.

ICFAI/ UPES/ Nirma/ Others: For either the lack of information or sub-standard presence, one can not comment much on their quality or standing. However, the author is open to comments and/or suggestions in view of the above stated.

Ranking: 1. Symbi, 2. Christ, 3. ALS, New Delhi, 4. AILS, Mohali

BILS Bangalore is infact a good law school. It has link with NLSIU in some aspects and now the course curriculum is extremely modernized. Now it comes under Karnataka Law University.

the last post also is well drafted but not very well researched, you should have looked into the placement brochures of these law schools as they give you a good idea about the school, course, activities, interns, placements, etc.

In my opinion:

While Symbiosis maintains its status quo (though may be sliding a little), ICFAI AND CHRIST ARE THE TWO LAW SCHOOLS TO LOOK OUT FOR, both are taking huge strides ahead. Army is also a good college. But as for the rest: Amity, UPES, Nirma, BILS, ULC, Ramaiah none are prospering well and may be termed as “Ram Bharose”.

Be ready to face all the challenges, defects & deficiency wen u join a pvt college.However i feel the same for the Nationals also except the top 4:- NLS,NALSAR,NUJS & NLU.

i would recommend a symbi or ICFAI dan a hnlu or rmnlu or cnlu…

GNLU is still better.

The National tag is not enough to excel.Tobe a good student in the National(Apart from the best 4) is more Important.You have to be in fore frunt in the less acclaimed Nationals.

Bein a topper in the private is more benificial than being a mediocre-average student in the less acclaimed/ new law colleges.

Jindal Global Law School is best out of all private colleges in India. Excellent Faculty, international exposure. Its affiliated to US bar. Infrastructure is awesome.

According to me if u wanna join any cllg aftr nationals join Jindal Law school.

Wats the placement scenerio? i can go on settin parameters but the fact remains the same that JGLS as on date has achieved nothin considerable, mainly because they do not have a batch yet. Let the admissions take place and students start participating etc, then we can make a logical evaluation.

hey! the idea of picking up a pvt law school is to suit ur needs!!

if u interested in litigation at the end of ur 5 yrs, amity wud suit u better given the proximity to the apex court and the multitude of children of eminent lawyers n jurists, who shall provide u with good internship options.

If you lookin at corporate side, i think in the last 3 yrs Symbiosis, Pune has outshone all other pvt colleges, in terms f mooting, sporting, placement achievments. If u r a sports fanatic, symbi s the place to be, those guys play some really good sports, besides the course structure is lucrative for multiple corporates and esp banks!

Christ is a decent option if u wanna stay in bengalooru but on a national approach loses out!

and last but not the least, why dun u just write the clat a lil more sincerely and save 75% of the money u r gonna blow in these colleges!!

Private law school’s. Will give hands up to Symbiosis; Pune. Even you can go for ILS pune. Both the school have good reputation. If you want to go for litigation; though it seems unlikely; you can opt for GLC; even the best firms in Mumbai will pic you. Returning to pune; BVP Law is also a good option; especially the BBA.LLB; which is a better option than B.A;LL.B. And it has a semester abroad in Uk- choose from Sussex University; Kings College London or Leeds university.Symbi has similar arrangements; and they have a great BB.A; LL.B. program.

lets not forget that sybmi began long back whereas dese law schools with whom it is compared here are comparatively very new. thus, in my opinion symbiosis hasn’t really done that well comparing the numbers of years it has been in existence. the placements have always been dismal and the percentage is dipping every year. Besides except good performances in sports meet n fest symbi’s performance/participation in moots/conferences/symposiums aren’t quite impressive either. Students of symbi themselves complain about d laid back attitude of the management. attendance n make up exams are no worry as all can be arranged. thus, i d say symbi is way ahead no denyin bt wit other law schools lik jgls, amity, army, icfai and christ spreading their wings soon there wil be many more good law pvt law schools to look up to.

Christ law is good.. the faculty is good .. infrastructure awesome… Most importantly these people have it in them to rise to the top..& are aggressively pursuing many things to be there…i won’t be surprised if Christ beats symbiosis in the next 3-4 yrs… christ has a bba llb course.. which some prefer over Ba llb

Also, Bangalore is a good city… but a lil on the expensive.\ side.

If u r into singing/dancing/theatre/sports and want to all that along with law.. Christ is the place to be..The exposure u get for such activities is the best!!!

The minus points are the obvious.. not even a single batch has passed out…(they first batch passes out this yr) and the management (the administration of Christ university) is in one word—> pathetic

Hi. I’m a first year student at Jindal Global Law School. There have been a few posts about Jindal in this thread and I would like to give you first hand information about my college. I agree with a lot of comments with regard to the fact that since Jindal is a new college, one cannot rank it among the best as of yet.

But I still encourage you not to completely write it off. Considering that we’re still settling in, our Moot society is yet to show great progress on paper. But we did participate in KLA and will be participating in all the major moots in the coming year. Our academic year starts much later than other colleges( in September),hence we do miss out on initial events. We also participated in a couple of events at NUJS and Admit One at NLS( we placed 2nd), so we’re slowly gettting there. I assure you that you will see a lot more of us at fests, debates, moots, MUN’s. sports and more.

About 30% of our students have Haryana domiciles. Among the others there is a large number of those who got into the lower rung nationals right from GNLU onwards in CLAT 2009. There are quite a few students who quit Christ and came here( not only are they relieved considering Christ isn’t a deemed Uni anymore, but they claim that academics too are far better here). We even have a student who quit NLUJ to come here. Practically half of us got into Symbi, a lot of us in the very first list itself. The decision to choose JGLS over all our other options(Christ, Symbi, lower rung nationals) wasn’t easy since JGLS was a new college- we had no info or stats about placements, activities, future prospects or anything. It was a risk we all took. And an expensive one too. Our fees are exorbitantly high. Those with domiciles have upto 100% scholarships. The rest of us too have studentships, scholarships and fee concessions, so it makes it easier for us and we work harder in order to save our scholarships. So it isn’t like we’re all rich brats who came here because we had nowhere else to go.

I agree that JGLS currently has nothing to show on paper if your criteria for choosing the best would be- placements, mooting and academic acheivements etc. But seriously, if you read what the Uni has to offer( and I can assure you that they’ve atleast delivered all that was promised ), you will see that our faculty is incomparable- they’re all scholars from Ivy Leagues or the top Uni’s from across the globe. Professor Schuck from Yale taught us in teh last semester. We have frequent seminars and debates. Most importantly, the professors are actually as good as their achievements, and they CAN teach. They’re young and very approachable- some of them are awe-inspiring. Being in the first year itself I have had so much exposure considering we have no seniors. The amount of exposure that can be used to one’s advantage is tremendous. The contacts that the faculty and administration have is incomparable- so I’m not worried about placements. Moreover, we are encouraged to weigh our options beyond the Corporate sphere. Some of us are interning with Additional Solicitor Generals and advocates from the SC. Every student here is mentored personally and given attention- our batch is even split up into sections for a better student-teacher ratio. JGLS takes itself very seriously

So, please, don’t write us off completely as of now. I’m sure you’re going to hear so much more about us in teh next three years. As of now, the word-of-mouth review has been exceptional.

Christ and ICFAI have lost their deemed university status so, I don’t consider it fit to study there although the website of Christ University still claims to be recognized by the UGC.

i am not from Christ..i got few friends there..are you sure they do not have Bar Council of India recognition? Because, if they do not..then it should be a huge concern for them as they will not have a license to practice ever..I personally don’t think you are right here..No college will be that foolish not to take BCI recognition..

hey champ i work in a corporate firm and i hav a son who passed class 12th in dis year only…coz of unsuffi. time of preparation he cudnt able to crack clat…so i decided him to admit him in christlaw college as he cleared d test bt after knowing dis institute is not recognised by bar council of india i admitted him in ms ramaiah law college,bangalore…vch is a great college.it has a brand name,a huge campus and it ranked 19th in all over india in 2007 n 2009…

Pl. go through BCI site and down load list of approved colleges.

Christ college is very much in the list.

Why you all advocates and would be advocates are wasting time on such silly issues. Its one of the reason why in India cases last for years.

I would like to request you not to use the term LOWER RUNG for GNLU. GNLU is coming up as one of the best in business, So far 30 students have been placed in the top notch law firms of India (14 in Amarchand alone) and still the placement weeks are due to come in the next semester.

I would also like to inform you that where your college was placed 2nd in some competition in the first year, my college won the Surana Moot in the same, also we ‘ve won many national and international competitions in a short span of 6 years which any other law school would only dream to achieve. these competitions include not only moots, but also conferences, debates, MUN’s and many more.

e.g India Today ranks the private schools as - Symbiosis (5), ILS(7), Amity Delhi(10) - Figs in brackets indicate overall rankings.

There are many more such rankings so you can take your pick. Many of the comments on this forum offer insider insights which may help.

Dude ! i think u should check this years placements …for GNLU…its only 7yrz old…n only 2 batches have passed out so far…n its not fair to judge a college so early…but how ever…this year placements in GNLU are showing very positive signs…It is there 3rd batch…and Amarchand recruiting 15 students …which is the highest intake by AMSS from any national law school..this year… d kind of growth GNLU has shown is indeed phenomenal… in my view it is undoubtedly the next National law school entering the Tier 1 league…my friend from GNLU informs me about the majestic campus which is underway…and undoubtedly the students have proved themselves everywhere… and more ov after the inception of CLAT i personally feel that there is hardly any difference in quality of students in the top 6 NLU’s…namely NLS,NALSAR,NUJS,NLU JODHPUR ,GNLU N NLIU BHOPAL…

A few things does matter a lot, such as:

: A good and industrious Vice Chancellor.

: Good overall performance in the academic and co-curricular activities.

: Good mooting atmosphere.

: Good recruitment.

: Good faculty quality.

Sorry to say but most of the colleges lack good faculties and that is the reason Mr.Veerappa Moily is setting up institutions specially to improve standards of these faculty members.

I am of the opinion that there is no rankings as such. All are fixed previously and there is a big business that goes on under this banner of rankings.

And yes, GNLU got AMSS because they have AMSS head in their boards - Res ipsa loquitor.

Colleges like HNLU are coming up pretty well the only fact they are not highlighted is that they do not brag!!

This ranking is really genuine , but i would suggest dat i.c.f.a.i and u.p.e.s should be placed a little higher in the ranking !!

With Respect to posts regarding the University Status of Christ : Christ has not been stripped of it’s university status, and proceedings in the Apex Court suggest that Status Quo would be the call for the day. In any way, the final posting has been scheduled for the 11th of January. Status Quo remains- Christ is still a University.

Also, it is a BAR Council of India recognized University. Really astonishing as to how certain posts have outrightly claimed it to be outside the BAR. Please read up on facts, as to how it was our Union Law Minister Mr. Moiley who fought for University Recognition in the first place at the BAR.

Claims in a certain post as to moving one’s child from Christ to Rammaiah based on information gathered upon the non inclusion of Christ University into the BAR recognition is a good laughter pill in this thread.

This is regarding Christ. It has got its pros and cons like any other institution. The good things are it has got one of the better infrastructures, faculty, library and even placement opportunity even when compared to national law schools. however after being a part of this college for some years now I am just dying to pass out considering the way the college runs. Students have no liberty in here. No body asks for students union but what is outrageous in it makes fun of students rights.

and if you are a girl you might also run the risk of being molested by a father. the minimum attendance is 85% and even if one misses college because one’s father passed away one has to pay the fine. there is no declared tariff for fines. whatever the father decides goes up on the slip.

your parents can be called for issues as trivial as not being in uniform and then they might not be given an appointment till 1 week of running hither tither. if your mobile phone gets confiscated your sim cant be taken out nor can your memory card. the fathers would like to check your private data. you have to have 85% attendance and anything short of that would ensure a guardian call. even if its falls in between where one still has enough time in hand to make up for the attendance at the end, his/her parents would still be called. Almost all the rules suck and the management is not at all approachable let alone be friendly.

I would not have chosen this college even though it comes with an assurance of an atleast 15 lakh package at the end for every good student. this is my experience at christ at the end of 4 years.

.only lift themselves on a pedestal.NALSAR placement have student being picked up for 10 lakhs per annum and you expect christ to better that…lol…Christ is a waste of time and money…seriously 1.45 lakhs p.a fees !!? ?

Better colleges in bangalore which charge below 50k .They dont even have decent mooters and debators(mooting premier league).Its just the name of the their branches of colleges that they have is why they have got the name.

The management is good though .You are a professional act like one stop complaining about attendance and other issues…grow up.

Placement in Christ would commence for the 1st time in a weeks time for the final year students.

So anyone commenting on it, is mere speculation and serves no end.

Like above mentioned, they have a brand name and very capable of roping in big names for placement purposes.

Again, lets just wait for the placement period to end, following which further info based on facts can be produced.

Also, coming to the fee i would surely say it is justified. It is definitely on the expensive side when compared to colleges of repute like ULC, GLC and ILS( just random examples) but the facilities, the seminars and the law building in itself( also the 4 floor library under construction currently) are lovely.

Finally, as per the Mooting, all the big teams are entering into moots starting from this month.

Our 1st year teams finished quarter finalists at BSLS 5th National Moot and the NLS-Bhopal Moot as well. Admitted, we have not won many, but this is bound to improve with time !

The newly established ITM Law School at Gurgaon has all the potentials to emerge as one of the best law schools of the country

Amity Law School, Delhi is not a private Law School. It is affiliated with the GGSIP University, which is a Delhi Govt. aided univ.

Today jindal global law school is the best pvt law school .Any one can see its faculty infra-structure, liberary ,tie-p with all world’s best universities,internanally exposure to students student exchange programme to world’s top universities/law firms …But one thing it is HIGH fees

While pride in one’s own institution is laudable, criticism of others especially when totally without consideration of facts indicates lack of confidence. Also, no renowned faculty, again, who is renowned in your opinion. It has the best faculty in India currently because they pay their teachers enough, again because they have high fees. It’s okay not to have a good opinion of that college, but for such arguments. I pray to God that you do not become a lawyer, because take it from a practicing lawyer, you’re not going to progress beyond 5K a month

I’d like to bring to your notice “Bishop Cotton Women’s Christian Law College”, Bangalore. It is the first of it’s kind, all girls law college. It falls under Karnataka State Law University. Not very well known yet has slowly been doing it’s bit. It has been nurturing budding women advocates for 10 years now :)

India does have a few good private colleges for studying law. I believe that Jindal Global Law School would rank first, followed by Symbiosis Law School, Pune and a tie between KIIT School of Law and School of Law, Christ University for third.

Frankly no private law school comes close to JGLS if quality of faculty, infrastructure, international exposure, etc given priority. Even the good student quality is evident from their recent moot performances (See MPL on LegallyIndia).

However given its high cost, Law Schools like ILS Pune, Symbiosis Pune, Nirma Ahmedabad, Amity, Delhi, Christ Bangalore, KIIT Bhubaneswar, Symbiosis Noida, Kerala Law Academy, UPES/ICFAI Dehradun, VIPS Delhi etc. could be next better options to choose from among private law schools.

Amity Noida is.

Both are similar in terms of curriculum and infrastructure, but you would find a better crop of students in Amity, Delhi. There’s good and bad in both, but you might find Amity, Delhi to be a safer option.

Some private law schools are Symbiosis Law College, Pune; ILS Law College, Pune; Amity Law School, Delhi; The Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University, Chennai.
