Well, one or two follow ups are in any case not enough for an internship. Also, applying for Dec-Jan intern in October is kind of late. You need to apply by June/July atleast, especially if you are targeting the top rung firms.

My suggestion is to give the firm people a phone call maybe once or twice in a week. Don’t bother with e-mails or mailing your CV again unless you get some sort of positive response on the phone. Also, it depends on the reaction of the HR personnel who you talk to on phone. If they seem willing to give you an internship (eg. they ask you the time period of intern, corp or lit etc.) then you must follow up on that and talk to the same person again and again. Otherwise if you feel that they are just putting you off, then just drop it and apply elsewhere.

I have something interesting to share, one of my classmate used jugaad to confirm an internship in a big firm, he was really happy, but few days ago, he got a reply that they were cancelling his slot, because they have to make space for a student with a bigger jugaad. :whistle:

On the other hand, sometimes interns who only got it through Jugaad, I’ve heard, get treated as second class interns, as in that they don’t get a stipend, they don’t get babysat properly, etc.

This does not happen at most firms, mind you.

In my view, it depends on the internship policy of firms, like, in most top tier firms, only 4th year and 5th year students are eligible for internship. But still, in top firms, you must apply at least 5-6 month prior from your desired period and the key to success for me was regular follow-ups :laugh: . The language of the follow-up must be formal and polite. Don’t offend them. :sick:

Another way: write an application to your Internship cell for at college or ask an expert person about it,

also in some firms, they ask for a recommendation letter from college for students in 2nd year.

I am not planning to intern at the giant firms as of yet… It really wont be of any use. I cant woo them anyway.

I got an internship at a relatively small but good firm by my own efforts. And it feels damn better than grabbing one with the help of jacks and contacts.

Anyway, I apply 4-5 months before the intended period of internship. My CV has been drafted according to the directions of lawctopus and a few other experts… so I hopefully presume that its decent.
