procedure for Name change

Hello…

my name is pooja… few days before i got married with gaurav kukkar… so instead of kukkar i want to use gaurav as my surname… i.e. pooja gaurav… can you please suggest me what to do for this? … i mean where to apply and other procedure… as i consulted to a lawyer he told that you have to write a application to Honourable Rajayapal… please suggest me the procedure for dong the same…

Kukkar is classy..why pooja gaurav? Anyways name change procedure depends on state to state basis. Get an affidavit done, submit it to relevant govt authority and get it published in a national newspaper. Rajyapaal thing is funny, the guy probably wasn’t even a lawyer.

Prabably because Kukkar sounds like Cooker. Anyway, to my knowledge, you need to have an affidavit prepared, signed, and sworn to before a notary. Once that is done, make an announcement of that in the newspapers. I don’t think there is a statutory procedure prescribed. This Rajyapal thing is definitely tell tale. Imagine going to the Governor for a name change.
